Ben is not just a very talented personal trainer but he is also a friend to all of his clients. I can tell he genuinely cares about my health and fitness as well as my life in general. He at times will act as your life coach and inspirational speaker during your sessions or he will just make you smile to make working out as fun as it can possibly be. His training sessions for sure push me to work out harder than I ever would on my own, he has really helped me reach my fitness goals and get in great shape for summer! He is also so accommodating by coming to your home to make everything so easy on you. Hire Ben as your personal trainer, he is the BEST!

Originally, I began working with Angela as my Personal Trainer. She encouraged me to stay focused on my goals and kept me interested in the workouts, but mostly she made me feel supported. And we had WAY to much fun together, which always made the sessions go by quickly. Eventually we began incorporating in Life Coaching. I felt so comfortable discussing my life with her. She pushed me to discover more about what I wanted in life while also being patient, giving me the time and space when I needed it. She is truly amazing!!

Tina Cotterill is well versed in strength training techniques (which I need!) as well as instruction toward total well-being. She has helped me during the past year to become stronger physically and to help me food plan. I am almost 70 years of age, and find the workouts that she structures for me exactly what I need to live long and prosper! She's also unbelievably inexpensive and cheerfully drives to my home every week! I highly recommend Tina Cotterill to anyone of any age who has decided to live a healthier life style.

I was a 70 year old active but reduced range of motion man. Anthony immediately spotted old injury problems in an assessment and started a program that has changed my physical life: much more flexible, stronger, and younger. 60 and going down.

Kenny is an incredible coach. I've been training with him and his other coaches at Empowered Recreation for over two years already, and my results are amazing! Kenny has a very unique approach to every client's needs, extremely knowledgeable about fitness and nutrition; gentle and understanding but yet firm and strict when it is needed for the client's benefit. "Empowered Recreation" is a great place for anyone who wants to reach their goals in fitness, health, nutrition - at any level. I saw transformations of clients starting with zero fitness level (like I was over 2 years ago), as well as ongoing successes of professional athletes and advanced fitness enthusiasts. Every workout session is different, and you never feel bored at ER. Empowered Recreation members and staff built a family-like community that is supportive, understanding, accountable. Give Kenny and ER a try - you won't regret it! You will only be grateful and thankful - like I am for my incredible transformation, my renewed (healthy, light and fit) body, happy life, new joyful lifestyle, support and accountability from my great friends at ER and beyond!

Just try a single session with Jeff. Do it. He's one of the friendliest and most motivating people I know. You don't need to spend much time with Jeff to learn some fundamental strength exercises better than 99% of people on the planet. After my first session with Jeff I kept signing up for more and more. I meant to only do 10 sessions, and there is NO pressure to do more, but I just couldn't stay away. I felt stronger than I had in years and it just kept getting better. About 18 months later I stopped my private sessions with Jeff, but I continue to apply what I was taught almost every day. Learn from the coach of coaches. It's not often you are exposed to such a gifted trainer like Jeff Sokol. I'm Sokol Strong for life now because I have the right tools, techniques and attitude. Can't thank Jeff enough.

Working with Hannah has been a life changing experience. She is a professional that can accommodate all levels of fitness from the elderly to the adolescent. In my case , I am middle aged and was out of shape with limited range of motion and little muscle mass. The results I've experience, which takes time and patience, have been due to being steady and consistent and trusting Hannah as my guide. She has been there 110% and helped me find confidence and strength I didn't think I had. I managed to stay focused on my goal to get strong and fi without getting hurt. I highly recommend her as a trainer, coach and fitness expert.

I began seeing Amanda and doing her boot camps in April, I felt a little intimated at first, but I figured out everyone was focused on there own workout and not judging me, I became more relaxed. Amanda has helped me feel more normal in my body, She isn't only just about exercise, she is honestly interested in each person that comes into to her classes. She watches for possible mistakes in form that could possible hurt you. And corrects you in the moment. She is a very positive influence and has made me want to be more, do more, live life more in the moment. She is the most positive person I have met in this physical industry. And she is truly honest in her interest in each person and situation, in physical and emotional and what you want for your personal goal.

Here’s a small background about myself to provide a little extra validity to my review on Balance Performance Fitness: I am a certified Athletic Trainer and am familiar with body mechanics, injury prevention, nutrition, health & wellness, exercise, etc. Ben worked with me consistently for about two months - still is involved with my workout routines whenever a little extra help is needed. Anyways, for those of you who are looking for a personal trainer, I highly recommend choosing Balance Performance Fitness to work with Ben. Overall he is a great coach who focuses on what your individual needs are specifically. He is able to challenge you in a positive way, and give you direct answers/reasons to any questions you have concerning your health or goals. Unlike other personal trainers that I’ve worked with where they either talk in circles, or use the same workout plan for every client; Ben strives in building a good rapport with you to be sure he is able to meet your expectations on your personal fitness goals. My experience having Ben as a coach was phenomenal. I have always struggled with putting in the work to strengthen my lower body - wether it was just pure lack of focus, no motivation, and just out of ideas for workouts that really blasted my muscles. While working with Ben I was able to overcome all of that and hit new PR’s (personal records) in all aspects. From front squat, backsquat. Deadlifts, to bench press, pull-ups etc. you name it. I have been the strongest I have ever been after just having Ben as my coach for two months, pushing me and finding ways to target my specific goals. So again, if you want to hit your fitness goals and have been struggling with them, I suggest just take that next step and at least talk to Ben to see if he will be a good fit for you. One word of advice though, if you do hire him, be sure you are ready to put in the work. There are no such thing as ‘excuses’ when it comes down to training with Ben and I think that is what makes him a remarkable personal trainer.

To whom it may concern: When I heard of Anthony Archer though a recommendation I was so excited. I’ve met a lot of amazing trainers during the time I’ve been working out, granted very spordic, I was told he was an inspiring instructor but also concentrated on overall balance and lifestyle. For me I was intrigued as I had lost motivation with trainers that just concentrated on one aspect and not the overall picture. At one point, I hated exercise and was always looking for a get-out-of-working-out-free card. Then, overweight and out-of-shape, I found my way to making an appointment with Anthony. Ever since then (going on 4 months now!), I’ve been a regular Monday thru Friday, 5 days a week. Anthony has helped me grow, and ultimately, embrace my inner athlete. Now, I connect with the part of me who is energized by moving, who feels like sweating, being serious about my nutrition, finding balance with meditation through better breathing, and strength in meeting my goals in the gym and in LIFE. Anthony‘s passion for health and fitness is contagious—he’s the a trainer that every person should have! He brings years of expertise from his work as a health educator to his role as a fitness trainer and by my opinion "a life coach." Anthony's always is so very willing to answer questions or help me find a solution. His positive spirit and living example of a healthy lifestyle positioned me so I could positively push myself into transforming my health. I want to give a huge shout out and recommendation to anyone whom might be struggling, defeated, or just plain tired of their daily routine or lack of results. Anthony your life line. I have so much appreciation and gratitude for Anthony and everything he's taught me and I look forward to many more results as I continue down this road of health and fitness. Sergio changed my life! The support and encouragement he gave me helped me to finally overcome issues holding me back. Having been in my place before he understood where I was coming from and always configured my workouts for what I needed that time. Once the day after my girlfriend broke up with me he looked at me and said, “ok, your doing power lifting today”, the growth hormone and testosterone from that work out brought me out of my depression and I felt 100% better. Sergio uses your strengths and what you love doing to help you achieve your best results. He never brow beats you or makes you feel bad. He has also been as much of a life coach for me as much as a trainer. His wisdom has helped me improve many other parts of my life and become the person I’ve been trying to become for 20 years! Training, guidance, diet, martial arts, life coach and just being the Yoda of the gym, Sergio does it all!

Every time Shila coaches me I come away with a greater sense of who I am. It's so easy to get lost in what you "should" be doing, what you think others expect of you, how other people are doing it, but talking things through with Shila helps me get back to what is really important: how I want to do things. I'm not living anyone else's life. My values are strengthened, I feel more grounded and connected to my body, and my intuition is much clearer after our coaching sessions. Having Shila as my coach is a valuable resource and one of the best decisions I ever made.

          Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

          What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

          What is a health coach?

A health coach is a service provider you can hire to help you realize your wellness goals. You can hire a health and wellness coach to guide you through life changes, keep you focused on weight loss or fitness goals, help boost your mental health, and more. Many health coaches work with their clients for set periods of time as the client moves toward a measurable goal. Wellness coaches come from varying backgrounds, and may have different areas of focus depending on their education and training. Research potential coaches by reading their reviews, researching their academic and personal backgrounds, and learning about any certifications they have earned from coaching institutes. Often, health and wellness coaches sell coaching packages ranging from three to six months or longer, depending on the client’s needs. The average national cost for an individual health coach session ranges from $60 to $90, although prices may range as low as $30 or up to $130 or more, depending on your location and the coach.

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

What is a holistic wellness coach?

When you want to reach new heights with your health and wellness, consider hiring a holistic wellness coach. Much like a health coach, a holistic wellness coach is focused on your well-being and meets with you in one-on-one sessions to help you identify and reach your targeted goals. A holistic wellness coach will typically have you take all components of your life into account when working to achieve your goals. If your goal is to lose weight, a holistic wellness coach will not only offer recommendations for your diet and exercise, but also discuss your emotional health, your work/life balance, your spiritual side, and each area of your life that affects your ability to follow a nutrition and fitness plan.

Although they are highly motivational and often can help clients achieve great results, holistic wellness coaches are not professional health care providers or registered dietitians. Different institutes and training centers provide certifications for holistic wellness coaching, so be sure to research your coach and read their reviews to understand more about their techniques and training.

          Why get a life coach?

People of all ages and in all careers have called in a life coach. Life coaches are accredited professionals who can help you figure out the tangible changes you can make in your life to reach your goals; they can even help you turn your dreams into goals, if you’re not sure where to go next. A life coach can also help people find their purpose in life. Life coaching clients often have an idea of what they want to do, such as help people or work with animals, but don’t know how to turn that passion into a career. A life coach can help clients work through the options to find a clear path with concrete steps that lead to an attainable goal. A life coach can also help clients make a major career change, such as starting a new business. Life coaches can help clients develop better habits that will make them more successful, acting as an accountability partner. Life coaches also often guide their clients through major transitions in life, such as a career change or other stressful situations that are made easier with guidance from a neutral third party.
