Doug was very efficient, thorough and personable. He arrived on time, performed the job and cleaned up when completed. Performance exceeded my expectations. Doug's estimate of the work performed was exact to the penny and he finished the job ahead of the time quoted. I couldn't be more happy with the work done in my home. I would highly recommend Absolute Plumbing for any plumbing needs. You won't be disappointed.

Corey was great! After the original plumber for my bathroom remodel became unavailable a week before the project was starting, Corey made time to come to the house and give a quote. We walked through the project and I clearly understood the work and his estimate and the potential risks. During the project, he coordinated with my contractor and sent photos as I was traveling during part of the project. He even guided me through a final decision the last day of his work. I felt comfortable having him in my home and look forward to hiring him again.

Jose did a great job on the tile for my bathroom floor and shower enclosure. His communication was great and his recommendations for some on the fly changes made the project a success. I would 100% recommend Tech Tile Inc.

Jeff fixed a botched tile job that caused water from our shower to leak all over the bathroom floor. He was able to see the problem and tell us how he could fix it during our first meeting. The cost was reasonable and he was on time every day. We are happy with the results and would hire Jeff again.

I hired Mr. Whitt to change out the Faucet in my bathrooms and kitchen and to fix my leaking toilet. He was on time and extremely friendly. He was able to change them out in a timely manor and did an amazing job. I had been having some trouble with my washing Machine that morning and he was happy to take a look at it for me and was able to fix the problem on the spot. I highly recommend Mr Whitt for any and all repairs and projects you may need or want done!

We hired Mark to tear out vinyl tile from our 2 bathroom floors and replace it with ceramic. The price he quoted us was the price we paid and his work was fantastic. We had both our bathrooms finished in only 3 days total. Couldn't be any happier!

Great service! They got back to me very quickly. We scheduled an appointment and they were there to install my new bathroom vanity within 2 days. I had purchased the wrong vanity that didn't fit with my plumbing so they had to make a second trip out. They were very nice about it and didn't charge anything extra. They did a great job. I would highly Recommend!! I will hire again for sure. Thank you!

My wife and I have worked with Weston on several different occasions in Florida and now after our move to Georgia. He redesigned a bathroom for us in our beach house that we thought was hopeless and turned it into a beautiful space! Then after the move he created an incredible rock patio that has brought so much character to our home. We will definitely use him again in the future!!

Very flexible with our schedules and got the job done in less than 3 days like he promised! His knowledge and expertise showed through the quality of his work. We had a few other tilers quote and none of them were able/willing to move around our plumbing (shower head and handle). Gregg offered before we even asked and was able to get it done no problem! Would definitely hire again for our next tile project. Thank you Gregg!

Al and his team do an exceptional job. They assisted me with several big jobs including: gutter replacement, drywall repair, two bathroom rehabs, excavating and adding a water shield to the exterior lower unit, and the installation of electronic heating boards. He was very responsive, transparent, and stuck to the timeline he gave me. I will definitely be partnering with him for future projects.

I had a bathroom that needed finishing on a tight deadline. I hired Llazi to do it and was very happy with the outcome. There were some communication issues in the beginning, but he worked around the clock to get it finished on time, and I am so glad he did. His fee was also very reasonable. Thank you Llazi! We will call you first when we need our next project done!

We've had Milwaukee Handyman Services out a few times, every time all the work was done to our expectations. We've had heavy mirrors put up on plaster walls, caulking in our kitchen and bathrooms refreshed, and a backyard gate built from scratch. Jobs all well done.

Wayne was a pleasure to work with. He gave a fair price for our job, and wasn't "greedy" like a lot of the other plumbers on here. I sent him photo's of our situation, and he was quick to respond with his estimate. (keep in mind, on thumbtack the cell ph # they supply is different than the actual person-- just type in query, and your ph #'s and Wayne will reply with his personal ph # to chat and/or text). Wayne did not talk "down" to me (I'm the housewife), as I asked questions, as most plumbers I've gotten estimates from. He was calm in explaining in layman's terms what the issue was, why it happened, and how it could be easily fixed. He was quick and imparted knowledge to my husband and I as we plan to progress with our bathroom. We enjoyed him so much in his honesty, that I sent him home with some of my homemade spaghetti sauce, which I hope he enjoyed!!!

I am so thankful that I found Brian!! I found him looking for a handyman, but when I discovered that he also did bathroom remodeling, I had him out to give me a quote to rent-tile my shower. He did an amazing job! He even was able to figure out and repair a valve in my shower that not even several plumbers that I’ve had couldnt fix! I don’t have enough kind words to say about Brian. He’s an all around great person who is passionate about his work and truly cares about his clients satisfaction.

We are currently in the planning stages of our project and will begin work in June. Thus far, Chris and Jason have been simply amazing. We are planning a total reno of our backyard and were not quite sure what we wanted to do. Premier Service Group came out and looked at our yard and within a few days came back with computer generated images of a base plan so we could envision how it would look. We discussed different options and they were very helpful with knowledgeable suggestions that made it a lot of fun to work with them, no stress. Chris went above and beyond in researching safe options for our pets and foster dogs to be around. We are so looking forward to working with this group, cannot wait to see our finished product!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

  • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
  • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
  • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
  • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
  • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

  • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
  • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
    • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
  • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
  • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
  • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.
