Jeff was very professional. He recoated my foam roof and painted the exterior of my home. The house looks great and they went above and beyond. The only thing holding this back from 5 stars is some overspray on my tile roof, spots on sidewalk, and 4 damaged heads/risers on my drip system. Other than that, excellent work! I'd recommend Jeff and Classic Shades Exterior Painting.

Steven came out and gave a quote to replace my porch roof and do some minor repairs on the rest of the tile roof. His price was awesome, but I ended up not needing to get the work done.

Clyde is experienced and professional. We knew that as soon as he took the time to remove the tiles from our roof to give us an accurate appraisal of our roof issues for an estimate. His price was fair and the work was done within a week of the estimate.

They removed and replaced a shingle roof on my house and their price was a couple hundred less than other estimates. The roof was done in 3 days and looks great. They didn’t try to up sell a bunch of extra stuff and kept me informed every step of the way. Great communication throughout the process.

These guys tackled a tough job and left the house exceptionally clean. We bought a home intending to remodel. We wanted to remove two columns and discovered the house was not build to the plans. We had an engineer provide a fix with details and load calcs, but that required removing a glulam and replacing with a larger one -- and my family has already moved in. I put up plastic everywhere, but it turns out I probably didn't need it. As one cut drywall, another held a vacuum to catch all the dust. Every time they created sawdust with the planer or a saw, and every time insulation fell through the ceiling crack, they cleaned it up right away, so it never got airborne and spread thorough the house. They installed it exactly to specifications and even addressed a couple unrelated issues without being asked. We expected it to take 6 hours, they were done in 4. I think the bid was high, but they were ready to go and I needed it done right away. After seeing the care they took, I think it was worth the price. Btw, I messed up ordering the beam, so Alfredo had to arrange to have a team come at a later date without him. They came in the afternoon when they had finished their day-jobs. Alfredo arrived as they finished to walk through and get paid.

John was wonderful. This project started out as a simple replace some patio wood that had some water damage. It turned into a LOT more than that. John kept with it the whole way, helping us save money where we could. But, the project ended up costing 7 or 8 times more than we had anticipated. Not because of anything John did, but because of how bad the water damage was. John got it fixed using some sub-contractors for painting and roof work, with no problem. Great job John! I highly recommend him for your project! Scott M.

We had some tiles that had blown off the roof and needed replacing. Contacted Tom and he returned my call very promptly and soon came over to look at the roof. Based on reviews and meeting Tom, we decided to have Tom do the repairs. He arrived promptly, as arranged and the repairs were done over a couple of days. He went for supplies as needed and the cost of these supplies was carefully accounted for on his final invoice. Tom includes before and after pictures of the work, when complete and explains the steps as he progresses. Being in a wheelchair I am no longer able to hop up on the roof and take a look for myself, but Margaret and I have no doubt that we will use Tom again, should the need arise. We also felt that his pricing was extremely fair. Thank youTom, for a job well done

Ernie was fantasic, was at our house within a few minutes after phone call to evaluate the problem and made appt to fix it the next evening. If there was a 10 star award Id give that to him. He not only replaced the missing tiles on my roof but found other tiles with cracks and repaired them all. I wish all businesses were run like his…very upfront, courteous, never pushy and very caring. If you ever need a roof repair call him, you will not be sorry

After the storms that hit the valley, we found a few nails and tiles on the ground around the house. I contacted the company that installed our roof and said the roof is out of warranty because we had installed solar panels without informing them. The guy quoted us for $1200 to replace 3 tiles, we called our insurance provider and told us our co-pay is $2k so it's not reasonable file a claim at this point. Dannon responded to our post on Thumbtack and had to replace 7 tiles, he also sealed 2 areas on our roof, one was probably leaking for some time. All this for less than half the price of our original quote. He actually came at the right time because it rained the day after the repairs were done. Thanks Dannon and Nate for a job well done.

Morgan was a pleasure to talk with on the phone - she quickly found a specialist in my area for the same day. Alex came within about an hour after I called him. Immediately cleared off the stuff that was damaged by water and set up dehumidifier, fan, and applied treatment. Came back on the third day to wrap everything up. The area was completely dry and ready for drywall repair. It was a pleasure working with Alex. I would definitely hire them again. The price was very reasonable.

JWF inspected and repaired my foam roof quickly between rainstorms. Two layers of coating were applied and the work is guaranteed for 5 years. They will inspect the roof once a year and make all necessary repairs. Over all, they were responsive and professional at a good price. I recommended them to my neighbors.

Always punctual, cordial and professional. His work was perfect quality. He will work with any schedule and can do everything. In my home he did the following: repaired a severe leak in my bathtub, replaced/upgraded all the hardware in my bathroom, replaced a sconce to a hanging electrical cord outlet, replaced all my smoke detectors which are also connected electrically, repaired my door jam and casing around my door which had been causing my electrical bill to soar as air was seeping in and out, and replaced a baseboard which was warped due to water damage. I plan to hire him to tile my bathrooms, hook up my plumbing when I get new counter tops and sinks, and paint my interior. I highly recommend Calvin Franklin.

Overall a really easy transaction. Carlos was able to put a 12' w x 8' h hole in our wall and the workmanship is wonderful, you would have thought it was there all along. I also has 1500 sq ft of Saltillo tile removed and new tile put in. Carlos was on time and so were his workers. The tile took a few days longer than we had anticipated but it looks great. The pricing was super fair and we managed to stay under budget. I will definitely use Dos Vigas again and would absolutely recommend them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
