Leon did a great job on replacing the carpets on my property. Since I'm trying to sell my property from a different state, it's tough to make sure that the job was done, but Leon provided plenty of pictures. He was also able to do some last minute replacement of some vinyl flooring, all in one day!

David and his team are without question the best out there! I hired him to paint the interior of my home as well as refinish the cabinets in my kitchen and he and his team did a phenomenal job! They were not only professional, but also were very detailed in ensuring things were done right the first time. I had several quotes and David was by far the best price. If you are looking for a someone to help with any home remodeling or repairs you should look no further and hire Time4LSM. I highly recommend David and his team and will use them again and again for any jobs I need to have done to my home.

Glad to have gotten connected with KR Flooring. Love the carpet in our bedroom. Our only hiccup was we were told that a two man crew would be doing the install because it was a large room and we were tearing out laminate flooring. Secondly, when we set the appointment we were assured that the crew would move out our furniture and put it back in. One young man showed up and initially refused to move any furniture. A couple of phone calls later it was resolved but he was completely unprepared. He kept commenting how large the room was and how much work he had. Felt bad for the guy! The salesman we dealt with generally didn't do residential sales so I think he over promised a little. Overall good experience. Love the result and would recommend to anyone -- just make sure you call back and confirm your expectations!!

I haven't seen the work completed yet, as I live out of state. However a retired contractor friend who lives very close to the house needing the flooring. Shared with me it was probably the best job he had ever seen completed by someone laying laminate vinyl. Not that is was a large job, but went many different directions. He also completed the job in a very timely/and on time manner. I will use him again I'm sure!

Makana Home Remodeling installed approximately 1000 sq feet of laminate wood flooring in our home. They also removed some of our carpet. They removed and reinstalled our baseboards as well. The flooring and baseboards look beautiful. David takes pride in his craftsmanship which shows in the final product! David, provided recommendations for how to lay the flooring in the room to make it look the best and everything turned out great. The team worked very fast and completed the entire project in 1 day (1000 sq feet + baseboards). The team was pleasant and easy to work with. We were running a little behind when they showed up and they and they were more than willing to help us move furniture and clear out some of the rooms. They were also sensitive to the fact that we have two small kids and they worked around them. They cleaned the flooring before they left. The cost was low compared with other businesses that we had contacted as well. All in all, we are very happy with their work and the completed project. We would work with them again and would recommend them to anyone.

I had 3 bedrooms and a walk-in closet with carpet I wanted replaced with some type of wood- look flooring. Ray came to my house, took measurements and explained all of my options with hardwood, laminate and vinyl including the plusses and minuses of each. He had many samples and laid them out next to my furniture so we could see how it matched. We discussed pricing and a schedule for installation. Ray was extremely professional and did not try to upsell. The day of the original scheduled installation, Thursday, I was called by the installers saying the material was late in arriving and said they could come the following day, Friday. I said OK. Friday morning , a man arrived to rip out the carpet and patch the tack strips holes. I asked when the installers would be there and he said a few hours because they were finishing up another job. Friday afternoon installers. A phone call said they were still at they other job, but would be there Saturday morning. Saturday, the demo man and arrived alone to finish the carpet removal and tack strip holes and move furniture including my bed. He said the installers would be there at noon. A phone call at noon said they weren't coming. My bed was apart and I had nowhere to sleep. I called Ray and he seemed upset at the delay and said he would take care of it. The installers showed up at 5 PM. They finished my bedroom, reassembled my bed and moved the bedroom furniture back. They said the would be back Sunday to do the other two bedrooms and the walk-in closet. They came Sunday and finished the two bedrooms. However, they didn't have enough material to finish the closet nor did they have the transition pieces between rooms, They would have to locate two more boxes of material and come back. The following week was Thanksgiving but they did show up the Friday after Thanksgiving and finished the job. They finished 8 days after the original scheduled installation. My schedule was very flexible but my time is not. Nothing worse than waiting for someone to show up and when they don't show up, it wastes my time. The quality of the installation was excellent. Once they were done, everything looked great. They cleaned up everything and took all the removed materials away, put all the furniture back and left me with an extra box of material. They walked me through all the rooms and explained how to care for my new floors. All in all, I was very happy with Ray and the quality of the installation. The scheduling needs some work.

The team at Venus Homes did excellent work from start to finish. We interviewed multiple companies for our vinyl flooring job. Narsay did a quality job listening and understanding the needs of the job while being able to foresee potential challenges. Narsay set realistic expectations regarding the time needed to complete the job. Before, during and after Narsay and teams communication was spot on. The end product turned out great and we couldn’t be more happy with the way our floors turned out.

Joe was great. We've used him for all sorts of jobs since 2009. He's a real jack of all trades. He laid ALL the flooring in our home: laminate throughout, tile in the bathrooms and laundry room. He even epoxy coated our garage floor! It looks like new! He painted most of our walls, replaced our toilets, tacked up baseboard, installed a ceiling fan and later this week he's coming over to swap out a broken in-sink garbage disposer. My wife and I are grateful for all his hard work! Anybody that hires him will not regret it. Thanks Joe!

We recently had Edge Hardwood do a laminate install in our kitchen, dining room, family room and our stairs. He told us a week to get it done and had it done right on time. Our Floor looks awesome and our stairs came out great. He got the boards tight against the stair wall and looks like the walls were built right on top. Very very happy with Scott and his work and a great price..thankyou!

We have installed new Range Hood, Granite countertop, Bathroom shower walls and countertops, Recessed Ceiling can lights, etc. My wife and I are very happy with all the Jobs Jack has done. Now our house looks new and attractive and we love it so much. Jack not only finished the job exactly as what we want, he is also considerate. He tried his best to make only one small hole on the wall when installing all the recessed lights. He is even kind to offer us free trims because he has some left in stock. The thing I like most is how Jack is trying to help us, instead of just finishing the project. He gave us very good suggestions. He helped us find good granite subcontractor, who provided a much better price than home depot, who had so many hidden fees. He also helped us choose the bi-level edge for the countertop, the under-mount sink, which looks so beautify and contemporary, and we like them so much. I decide to install the water filter by myself to save some money, and Jack is so kind. He helped me purchased the right adaptor for tubing, and gave me the instructions how to install it, even without I ask for it. The filter has been installed and it works very well. Thank you, Jack. There are a lot of small things which you can tell how nice Jack is. He helped us put and take back the garbage bin each time when we are not there. He also kindly lend me his scraper for my own flooring project(I am replacing my carpet with laminate floor by myself). By the way, Jack, your scraper is still in my house. Don’t forget to take it whenever you drive by my house. In conclusion, we are very happy with Jack and his jobs, and we will highly recommend Jack for your future home improvement projects. Good Luck, Jack!

We needed have have 1400 sf of carpeting removed and then placed with new wood laminate flooring. Rick, the owner, was very responsive, organized, very fairly priced and went above and beyond what he said would be done. I would strongly recommend Red Mountain Carpet and Tile. Simply put, an outstanding company to work with!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

    • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
    • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
      • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
    • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
    • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
      • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
    • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
      • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
      • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
      • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
        • Includes removal of the dura rock.
    • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

    • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
      • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
    • 620 square feet of maple floor:
      • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
      • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
        • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
