I have 40 years' experience in teaching piano to all ages and all levels, including classical, popular, ragtime, and jazz. I am currently a private piano teacher at Scottsdale Community College. I believe that piano should be fun and fulfilling. I am also a musical director for theaters having won five Arizoni awards. I teach piano lessons to students of all ages and ability levels. I usually use the Faber lesson series as a basis for my lessons but supplement these with special classical, holiday, or other high-interest pieces that are at the student's level. I have a superior ear for this hobby that I've grown to love so much! I have played the trumpet, drums and guitar (strings) well enough to teach others sufficiently regardless of playing level and have played piano, sax, flute and french horn well enough to teach someone in their beginning years.

Thumbtack Spotlight

Music Everywhere

(60 reviews)

Learning to express yourself through music is one the best things you can learn in your lifetime. With the right mentor, taking on the challenge of mastering a new instrument can become effortless.

Among the more popular instruments out there is the piano, and in Mesa, Arizona, you can look up Music Everywhere which offers lessons across all learning levels. The instructors at Music Everywhere believe that the gift of music is such an incredible thing to share and teaching it to others is a way for them to leave their mark in the world. Learn more about them as the ahswer some questions below.

What do you love about your job?

I'm naturally a people-person and I find teaching others to play the piano truly gratifying. My students are so amazing; each one is so different and I love how this challenges me to teach them all in a unique way where each one learns best. Watching them set and reach goals brings so much joy into my life. I don't have children of my own so I consider teaching as my way to leave my legacy in this world - to leave the gift of music to all the people across the Phoenix Valley that I have taught to play the piano.

What or who inspired you to start your own business?

I want the freedom of working for myself, but only until several years ago when I got ill with Valley Fever and Meningitis did the chance for me to start my own business materialize.

Being stuck in a wheelchair for six months, I realized I could never return to the work I was doing before. However, I saw this as a blessing in disguise and took a leap of faith and trust that I was supposed to be on a different path. I found Thumbtack, followed their advice and promptly started a career teaching music. I had a few students immediately after signing up. My goal was to have enough students and income so that my husband could retire and it only took one year before I reached my goal. Now, I have so many students I have a waiting list. Thumbtack has been one of the best things that ever happened to me!

    Ron Ferlito Music

    (32 reviews)

Ron Ferlito is an outstanding voice instructor! He really got me singing within just a matter of a few lessons. I started with absolutely zero prior singing experience or knowledge. I really thought it would be just a waste of time to even try getting voice lessons. I've always thought my singing voice is so incredibly bad, there is no way that an instructor could do anything for me. HOW WRONG I WAS! I was lucky enough to be referred to Ron Ferlito for voice lessons. Ron Ferlito is an amazing voice teacher. He showed me the basics, and he has been showing me how to use my voice musically, just like a musical instrument. Ron Ferlito has a wealth of musical knowledge and experience and he knows how to explain it to a beginner in a way that makes sense and gets results. I highly recommend Ron Ferlito for voice lessons to anyone who is a beginner and curious to know whether they can actually sing. Ron Ferlito will get you singing! Ron Ferlito is also an amazing and gifted piano player and teacher. My wife is taking piano lessons from him and she has gone from zero knowledge of music to playing some simple Christmas songs in just a matter of a few weeks! How do you do it, Ron?! About me: I am a 40-year-old man who has played guitar for 20 years. I have always wanted to learn to sing too, but I never had any success on my own. I told Ron that I want to learn to sing well enough to play/sing at open-mic nights. Before I knew it, Ron had me singing at one of his recitals. What an awesome experience that was! Bottom line: if you want to learn how to sing or play piano, or both, regardless of whether you have some musical background or not, sign up for lessons with Ron Ferlito. He is very reasonably priced. I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. Ron Ferlito is also a very friendly guy who is easy to get along with. You never feel embarrassed when you make a mistake around Ron. His attitude is always supportive and encouraging. I just can't say enough good about him because I'm so grateful to Ron Ferlito for helping me to find my true singing voice.

    Piano Lessons with George Herzog

    (30 reviews)

I have had piano lessons with a variety of different piano teachers of different musical backgrounds and abilities. I've stayed a student of George's and will continue to be one, because he has been better than the rest. He quickly assessed my own ability, thoughtfully considered my goals, and built lessons to help me get there. I have made significant improvement in a short amount of time under George's instruction. He has a passion for piano and a passion for teaching, and he goes over and above to make sure I fully understand all the concepts he teaches. I'm lucky to have found such a competent teacher who makes every lesson fun and wants me to be better.

I teach my students to not only learn the notes, but how to practice songs effectively. Teachers often forget that their students have busy lives outside of the studio. I teach my students how to make the most of their practice time to be successful. I enjoy the one to one contact with my students. My greatest pleasure comes with my students' success in what ever they learn in music.

    Reverb Lessons - Scottsdale

    (15 reviews)

I was brand new to guitar when I started lessons with Richard. He is great at taking things at the pace you need and being patient with a new student. He is also very flexible with schedule and length of lessons, so you can work lessons into a busy schedule. His knowledge of music theory was evident in his instruction, and he imparted this information at appropriate times as I learned the practical side of playing. I enjoyed our lessons, as I felt like I made progress, but they were fun at the same time. Richard is very receptive of your input and the direction you want lessons to go. He'll focus on what you want to learn and the songs you want to learn. Overall, I was impressed with his skill and ability to teach, and would highly recommend him!
