Chris was professional in all aspects, even though we hired him late in our wedding planning process. His video was very good, and we're happy with it. Definitely worth the cost, and Chris stayed out of the way and let the action happen on its own. A couple of notes: He showed up a bit later than maybe we had hoped, but it didn't cause any issues and it could just be that we were stressed about the ceremony. He made a mistake on our video regarding the date. However, he fixed that promptly and we are satisfied. Thanks Chris!

I got married this past July at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, and had Jim do our photos for the wedding. He did an absolutely amazing job with the pictures, there is not a single one that I do not like. He was really easy to work with and very organized making the post wedding pictures. Another thing that I really appreciated was how easy the pictures were to access after the wedding. Overall he did an amazing job, and I would highly recommend him to anyone.

We hired Ken to DJ our son's wedding. He did an excellent job. He met with us before the event to get familiar with the venue and meet us. He was very professional and very fun. He played requested songs right away and kept the crowd dancing and having a great time. He set up early, knew what he was doing and did it perfectly. I would highly recommend That's My Jam DJ Service. Bev

Roger was a delight to work with from the start. We were unsure of whether we wanted to do a wedding video, but once we spoke to Roger we knew it was a must! He exceeded our expectations. Not only did we get a series of unbelievable videos, he took pictures and even had a drone from above. I've watched the video several times and he captured every moment. It was perfect. He even went out of his way to dub in the correct date, when our officiant said the incorrect date during ceremony. Nothing but 5 stars all the way with Roger. Thank you for making our day even more perfect and capturing it all on video to replay for many years to come. Xoxo James & Lauren

Ron took the time to truly learn about me and Joe as both individuals and a couple. We discussed our family histories, looking for patterns of behavior in past relationships. We talked  about our strengths and weaknesses as partners. We talked about our hopes and concerns for the future as a married couple. And all the while Ron was truly vested in our experience. Carol stepped in closer to the wedding date to help organize the ceremony, setting my mind at ease knowing she would be there to direct the proceedings and make sure all went according to plan. The ceremony was perfect. Ron's message was funny, charming, and endearing. Joe and I both felt he spoke to us with heartfelt encouragement for our future. We truly felt God's presence in Ron's words, and our guests are still talking about how impressed they were with Ron's eloquence and uplifting message. Joe and I couldn't be happier with our wedding ceremony, and we owe it all to Ron and Carol Faus. A grateful bride, married January 2012

Pastor Cameron was contacted two weeks before the wedding. He replied within minutes of me sending my first email. He introduce himself and provided his contact information. He send me templates with different ceremony options which were a great help. He was available to meet and go over our ceremony details. He was respectful and patient. He was the first one to arrived at the wedding location. The ceremony was simple and beautiful from the prayer to the scriptures. We had a wonderful wedding celebration.

I originally found Mark via Thumbtack, he responded to my inquiry promptly. I spoke with him on the phone and could tell by his demeanor he would be the perfect officiant for my wedding. He emailed over a sample service, which I altered a little to fit my and my fiance's personality. He attended my rehearsal which allowed me to speak with him in person and get to know him a little better. He arrived early for the day of the wedding ceremony and was professional throughout the whole event. My guests and I were all very impressed by his service. Hiring him took some of the many wedding day stresses off my shoulders. I would definitely recommend Mark for anyone's wedding, plus he was very well priced for this service. Thanks Mark, you made for a very memorable day! -Bicey and Vineet

I cannot rate Mike Goodrick highly enough. He was absolutely phenomenal from start to finish and I look forward to finding another event when I can hire him. I work in television and have a history in music and production (translation: I am extremely picky with high expectations). When I spoke to Mike, I just knew that he was the right fit. I couldn't be more pleased that I chose them. We heard endless rave reviews about them the entire evening and for weeks following the wedding.

"Ryan was amazing! The DJ is such an important component of a wedding, and we wanted to be sure that we had a DJ that met our style and personalities. Ryan came recommended to us, and we couldn't have been happier. Our wedding guests keep telling us how much they loved the DJ and the music. We have already recommended Ryan to friends I know who are getting married." Patty and Tristan - October 2017 Wedding

Scott is as classy as they come. I had the pleasure of working with Scott for 3 years and I was honored to have him perform my wedding. He stretched me as a leader and taught me the value of valuing people. He also pushed me to become more organized and that over communication is better than under communication. I am forever grateful for Scott.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
