An awesome Mandarin Chinese tutor.
I have been taking Mandarin Chinese for a few years and have had the pleasure for the last 6 months of having Lilian as my tutor. I enjoy her conversational approach taken from printed material. There's no English in it, so it's all memorization. It is both growing my vocabulary and helping me have more meaningful dialog with native Chinese speakers. Lilian is a wonderful intelligent instructor. Some of the course work doesn't stick in my head easily, so I appreciate her patients and persistence helps to that after awhile that which was difficult is now easy. My class with her is one of the highlights of my week.
Isabel (Min) is a fantastic Mandarin teacher. She is an experienced teacher across all levels — from teaching beginners and children, to adults with some Chinese language background (like me). She is patient and professional, and tailors the Mandarin lessons to one's needs. I have been taking lessons with her for two years and my conversational Mandarin has improved significantly!
I had the opportunity to be her student for almost 4 months. I can't imagine that in 4 months I could know so much Mandarin or Chinese (普通话）. Sometimes I was tired or just lazy and she challenged making me thinking, making to speak, learn how to use and say Chinese. Really dynamic, attention and always want to help your students to improve. Thank you Cici for your patience with me. :)
Teacher Wan Wan comes prepared and knows the material to teach my son, and knows how to test him back to see if he absorbs the Chinese lesson well.
A bit of background, I am conversationally fluent in Cantonese, but had always wanted to learn Mandarin and become Chinese-literate. Corinne was the second tutor to respond to me, but the first who could meet with me. My initial apprehension at learning Mandarin from a white girl quickly evaporated upon our first conversation. Corinne is one of the sharpest, emphatic, and amiable people I've had the pleasure of meeting...I highly recommend her to anyone who's looking to learn Mandarin and about Chinese culture.
Anna provided me a good base of practical Chinese skills that I used successfully in my business travel and meetings. I'm certainly not anywhere close to fluent, but I can exchange polite greetings and order meals, and that was my goal. My Chinese counterparts appreciated my efforts with their language. I'm also considering having Anna tutor my middle school boy who has recently started Chinese at his school
Johnny has been an excellent tutor for Mandarin. He is patient and takes the time to make sure you understand and can work through pronunciations. He is always prepared and very flexible with his scheduling. I have been able to set goals and work towards them with Johnny and adjust the lessons to my needs and busy work/life schedule. I would recommend Johnny to anyone looking to learn Mandarin.
She was a very experienced and creative Mandarin tutor. I was very bored of reading textbooks from my old Chinese schools. She created her own lessons that are way more fun and effective than textbooks.
I have had Brandy as my private Mandarin teacher for about two months. As a student who has had lessons in classroom and private settings, I would recommend Brandy because her teaching is flexible and customizable to the student's needs (e.g. wanting to learn more conversation than reading, homework workload, books you want to work on, etc). Be sure to let her know what you are looking for - I was able to review a full year's worth of lesson with her in those two months. She's also Taiwanese, so if you want to learn Mandarin with more Taiwanese influence, she will definitely be helpful.
Xieyu was very professional and thorough. We first discussed a lesson plan and she laid out some suggestions of how the lessons would go before meeting. During the lesson, she was very clear in pronunciation and patient. Highly recommended.
