I picked Jose due to all of his positive reviews. I reached out and he got right back to me and gave me his window of availability. He communicated with me throughout the day so our timing was in alignment. He did a fantastic job installing our new bathroom vanity. We are now using him for another Plumbing project.

I had Tony replace an old toilet and install a new bathroom vanity / faucet for me. I was very happy with his work... he is very meticulous and went above and beyond to make sure everything was installed perfectly. I would highly recommend him for any plumbing projects.

I hired Gusanito to install porcelain tiles in my bathroom. He was very prompt--being the first contractor to contact me on thumbtack--and quickly responded to my text messages whenever I had a question. He takes his time and is very detailed in his work. He is also willing to help you with other problems. For example, in addition to installing the tiles, I also wanted to change my sink faucet and shower handles. He agreed to do the extra work at a reasonable price. The tile installation went smoothly, however, we ran into plumbing issues which he couldn't solve. I'm giving him four stars because I hired him on thumbtack for tile installation services, not plumbing. Nonetheless, he agreed to bring his cousin (who is an experienced plumber) over the next day to change my sink faucet at no extra cost. The total work took about two full days to complete, but I'm sure it would have been less if we didn't run into the plumbing issues. So I recommend him but make sure you talk with him thoroughly about what you want to accomplish.

Jasper was on time, responsive, and did an incredibly high quality paint job on our cabinets and even helped us install new handles, knobs, and hinges in a short amount of time. Our kitchen and bathrooms now have a great new 21st century look (updated from its original 80's look and feel). The quote we were given was extremely fair. For the overall experience of this job - the only word that can be used here is indeed 'outstanding'.

Richard Hynes is a very detailed professional. Upon meeting Richard I felt comfortable about the project. We originally wanted to order materials for the project and he had suggested to me that he would order any materials and provide us with the receipts. Luckily we let him order the material as it turns out the ones we wanted to order were undersized for our project. Richard came and seismically retrofitted our home. He also helped us on our kitchen and bathroom remodels while managing the project the whole way, hiring subs, coordinating between myself and subcontractors and achieving the results desired. Richards pricing was 20% cheaper compared to licensed professionals in the area. We are so glad to have had his help, as the previous worker we hired from thumbtack turned out to be unlicensed at a cheaper price, but ended up costing us a lot more money in the long run.

Rafael was great! He arrived on time, assessed the projects, got his tools and got to work. He changed out both bathroom light fixtures in 1 hour and reinstalled the new bathroom faucet in 40 minutes. We recommend him 100% and would hire him again without question.

I hired Jeremy for installing bidets and faucets in 2 bathrooms. He was flexible in setting up the appointment even though it was after normal business hours. The faucet replacement turned out to be more challenging than we anticipated but Jeremy was persistent until the job was completed. Overall I had a good experience and recommend his service.

I wish I could give then more stars for their fabulous job. The project was bathroom remodeling. My husband and I are both working full time, we were a little concern about leaving the apartment unlock. But when we met Junio and his team, we realized how trustworthy they are. Everynight we came home to a nice organized construction work. I attached the picture, you would be the judge to see how nice, clean and amazing job they did in only 4 days.

At first when my husband and I thought about this renovation we never imagined it turning out this great. We feel a great weight lifted from our shoulders. We did a Kitchen and Bathroom remodel, at the same time, and it couldn't have gone smoother. I truly believe Shmuel treated this remodel as if it was his own house. The demo was done quickly and everyday my house was left clean. Every step I was notified of before, during and after which left me relaxed and happy. Shmuel his Great team and workers completed the job at time!

Regina and Jason did our bathroom remodel. They did a great job. Our bathroom looks amazing! We have had a few problems after completion, which may or may not be connected to the work itself, and they were extremely responsive, came right away, fixed the problems. They are easy to work with, friendly, tidy, and just great workers. We will likely hire them again.

I hired Sergey and his team to do a complete Bathroom and a partial Kitchen remodel. Having gotten quotes from multiple contractors, we settled on Sergey as his quote was reasonable, but more importantly he promised a quick turn around time. I admit, initially I did not believe the job would be done so quickly, and was mentally prepared for a 1.5X - 2X factor. Not only did they finish the job within the promised time frame, I think they might have been a day or so early. However, that does not mean they did a shoddy job - in fact they strived for perfection in every aspect. For example, the vanity we ordered for the bathroom, had crooked angles as it hadn’t been assembled properly. It was very minor and I was ok with it - however they decided to take their time to fix someone else’s bad work before installing because ‘it was not right’. This came through in every aspect of the job. The team that worked on our house was also very professional, always on time, and cleaned up after themselves everyday, unlike some other contractors I have worked with who leave the place as a war zone until the entire job is done. I am glad I found Wise Stage Remodeling and will be using them for all my future remodeling jobs, and would recommend them to everyone I know.

We engaged Refresh and Build to help us completely remodel a bathroom and open up one of our living spaces by removing a wall. Not having a lot of experience with remodels, I was pleasantly surprised with how easy the whole process was. It has always been my dream to have a clawfoot tub, and Refresh was able to reconfigure our bathroom to make it happen. We had most of the finished materials selected, but we’re stuck on the last couple items so Sam, our project manager, made a few suggestions which turned out great. I hadn’t even considered a wall mounted faucet until he suggested it, and now can’t imagine the room without it! The crew was super friendly, clean, and most importantly, very skilled. Sam was very responsive to all of our questions, and really made the process much more stress-free. We couldn’t be happier with the end result!

Victor ended up helping me redo a bathroom including partial flooring, installing a shower door and new toilet, new sink cabinet, removing the large mirror and repainting the wall. He was heoric in locating and fixing the main into the apartment unit, situated deepin the garage with no map. Victor also removed all the old items and took them to the dumpster, with a nice cleanup, all at a reasonable price. I would recommend Victor to anyone who needs help in bathroom work, as well.

This was by far one of the best remodeling experiences I’ve ever had. I am extremely particular about the details of my home, so with the help from Green Line and notably Junior, he did a fantastic job designing and remodeling our bathroom. During our consultation Junior was without a doubt unquestionably knowledgeable and had the skills and apparatuses to create the ideal optics. I am very delighted to have had the opportunity to utilize him and his dexterity. If you are looking for a remodel I highly recommend calling Green Line.

After getting quotes from several contractors, I ultimately chose to work with Tom and Gal to remodel my bathroom. Tom arrived for the estimate with an easy going, friendly demeanor. He gave a positive first impression, giving an objective assessment of the apartment's condition and work that would be required for the job. The quote that was emailed later that evening was better than the rest by a significant margin. In the next phase of the project, I deal with Gal. All details of the project were agreed upon, including the scope of work. During the 14 days of work, I stopped by numerous times . Tom was friendly, hard working, and professional - he completed the whole project smooth and without any issues. After a final inspection, a few touch ups were required, but were completed on the following morning without question. The final results were very nice and clean. Tom went above and beyond by doing some extra work that was requested during the project. He took down an existing chandelier and installed a new light fixture in the living room. Due to poor design, the install was not as straight forward as it should've been. Tom stayed late with his team on the final day to finish installing it for me, which was very much appreciated. I highly recommend Tom and Gal - they are a great team, down to earth in dealing with people, and will come through on their word for your project.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

  • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
  • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
  • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
  • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
  • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

How do I remodel my bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling is made up of three general phases. The first phase is the planning and permitting phase, in which you determine exactly what you want, what materials and finishes will be used, and what the end product will look like. If you’re competent with design you can handle the planning yourself, or you may hire an interior designer to guide you. During this phase you’ll also hire a general contractor who can help execute your remodel vision, coordinating and overseeing all the subcontractors required to do the bathroom remodeling (plumbers, flooring pros, etc.). When your plan is finalized, your contractor should obtain permits for the work you want done. During this time you’ll work together to order all the materials so they’ll be ready and waiting when it’s time to start construction.

The second phase is construction. Bathroom remodeling typically starts with demolition, removing the old floors, shower and vanity to make way for the new. Delays in delivery of materials, or changing your mind and ordering different materials halfway into the project, will mean that construction has to pause until the new materials arrive. Each subcontractor is dependent on the next to do their work, and the general contractor should keep things moving along at the proper timeline, ensuring that the right materials are available and dealing promptly with any unexpected repairs, such as damage discovered behind the walls or under the floor. The general contractor will also coordinate inspections from the necessary officials if you’ve moved load-bearing walls or done electrical or plumbing work. After construction is complete, the final phase of bathroom remodeling is addressing your punch list. These are all the items that need to be corrected before final payment is handed over to the contractor.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

  • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
  • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
    • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
  • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
  • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
  • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.
