Your burning questions: answered

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with a house cleaner during the COVID-19 pandemic?

The best way to set up a consultation with a house cleaner during the COVID-19 pandemic is by using virtual, online tools. Start by performing an online search for local house cleaners. Message them to set up either a phone call or video call to perform a consultation. During this call, they can give you recommendations and may be able to estimate the cost of their services. Be sure to discuss whether they accept virtual payments and any precautions they can take to perform the job safely.

Can I use digital payments to pay for house cleaning?

Not only do many house cleaners accept digital payments through platforms like Zelle, PayPal, Square Cash, Google Pay, Venmo and more, but this may become more common as the COVID-19 pandemic pushes more service workers to digitize. This means you can pay your house cleaner without making physical contact or handling money.

If cleaning is absolutely essential during the current crisis, consult with the house cleaner beforehand to ensure a safe monetary transaction that complies with current government guidelines and recommendations for social distancing.

Are there ways to be safe if I hire a house cleaner when social distancing?

If you hire a house cleaner to clean the inside of your home, do not make physical contact. Stay at least 6 feet apart at all times, sanitize any surfaces after cleaning and wash your hands thoroughly. Exchange all payments digitally instead of with cash. When contacting a house cleaner, put a plan in place to ensure everyone's safety.

How can I find out if a house cleaner is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

A house cleaner is generally not considered an essential service sector during the coronavirus pandemic. To find out which services are considered essential, visit your city and state government, and read their guidelines. A national list of essential service providers can be found on CISA’s Identifying Critical Infrastructure During COVID-19 site. This webpage lists 16 different infrastructure sectors considered to be essential. However, not all jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure.

Does a house cleaner need to enter my home?

Yes, in almost all cases a house cleaner needs to enter your home. However, a cleaner may not need to enter your home if they are solely cleaning outside areas.

There may be some cases in which a cleaner is necessary. If so, take precautions — avoid being in the same room, make no physical contact, sanitize any surfaces and pay through a digital service instead of using cash.

Do house cleaners offer remote or virtual services?

House cleaning is generally done in person, but some may be willing to offer remote services. If you find a house cleaner’s profile that states they’re offering remote services, contact the pro to talk about your options.

If you’d rather hire a house cleaner to clean your home when the pandemic is over, you may be able to book an appointment at a later date. Start by comparing local house cleaners in your area side-by-side.

Should I hire a move-out cleaning service or do it myself?

You may benefit from hiring a professional move-out cleaning service, depending on your budget, time frame and whether you will be getting a deposit back. Hiring a cleaning service takes the stress out of your move. But if you’ve had your house regularly deep-cleaned, or if your landlord will charge you for cleaning anyway, you can save costs by DIY-ing it.

What is the difference between a housekeeper and a house cleaner?

Although some house cleaning and housekeeping duties might overlap, a house cleaner is charged with the top-to-bottom cleaning of a home. House cleaner duties typically include basic and deep house cleaning, such as washing and sanitizing countertops, floors, tubs, toilets, kitchens and more.

Housekeepers or maids are hired to lightly clean and maintain certain aspects of the home. This might include dusting, washing dishes, changing sheets, doing some meal preparation and restocking the client’s groceries and personal care products.

It’s also worth noting that a housekeeper or maid is usually one individual employed to a home (sometimes hired as a live-in), while a house cleaner is oftentimes accompanied by a team of cleaners.

How much does it cost to deep clean a house?

Deep cleaning a house goes beyond the surface level to clear out the dust, grime and gunk that’s collecting on the fan blades, hiding in the blinds, and built up inside the refrigerator drawers. Deep cleaning of a home or apartment costs more than regular house cleaning because it takes more time, effort, and cleaning products. You may choose to have a deep cleaning once or several times a year in addition to your standard cleaning services. You may have a one-time deep cleaning to prepare for company or to clean after a house party. Companies may charge an hourly rate or a price per square foot, or may offer you a flat rate after they have visited your home and estimated work time. The national average house cleaning price is $110-$150, with rates ranging higher for deep-cleaning services. Here are some examples of how a company may calculate their deep-cleaning prices:

  • 10 cents per square foot (compared with 5 cents per square foot for standard house cleaning).
  • $300 for a 3,000-square-foot home.
  • $25 per hour per worker for deep-cleaning services.

How do I choose the best house cleaning service?

When searching for the best house cleaning service near you, consider the depth of your cleaning needs, your budget and the size and condition of your home. Read reviews from verified customers of any cleaning service that you’re looking to hire. Also, check out the reviewers’ photos and do background checks on reviewers to ensure they’re not employed by established cleaning firms or maid agencies.

Good job for the things done(fan etc) but as house was vacant and standard cleaning was already done earlier, we expected deep cleaning on left out places (by earlier cleaning pro). Some cobwebs and left out places(see pic) were expected to be taken care of.

We moved into our house on very short notice and never had the chance to have it properly cleaned. After finding JGH Cleaning Professionals, LLC on Thumbtack and subsequently hiring them, I can honestly state I have never been so pleased with a cleaning service. Their attention to detail is unparalleled. Thank you Jasmine and Dominique!

I ordered a deep clean for my sadly neglected house. Shannon worked alone, asked questions as needed, and really got the job done. It smelled great! I’ve signed up for monthly service.

Daiana did a great job cleaning out the kitchen and bathroom. Hired her after our tenants moved out and left the house dusty and dirty. Luckily I'm bilingual so communicating was easy for us.

Maid in Heaven Housekeeping was phenomenal! We did a move-out cleaning and because of being unsure on our exact move out date, we were scheduled for a certain day and time but at the last minute they squeezed us in earlier due to needing to get out of the house sooner. They were extremely friendly and went above and beyond to satisfy us. The man who did the cleaning was very thorough and we were very pleased with the job he did!

This company is amazing! They have a quick response to your needs, deliver on the services promised, and my house truly does look beautiful when the crew is finished! The window cleaning guy did a phenomenal job! And the best feature is the affordable prices! I was able to book multiple times in less than two weeks. I will use their services again and will highly recommend them to others. I am very pleased and impressed with my experience.

First off I have to say that I rarely give reviews, in this case I felt it was important to do so. When I first reached out to Misael & Lucero the response time was very fast. Misael and Lucero came out the same day, looked at the house, we discussed what I needed done (deep cleaning), and the rate I would be charged. Once we agreed we then set up a day and time for the work to be done. We scheduled the cleaning to start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. I called and spoke to Misael at 9:20ish because I had not heard from them, Misael stated they were on their way with no further explanation. When they arrived I was told they had been waiting for the baby sitter to arrive. Which I understood but a call would have been more professional. They started working right away and did a good job for the most part, even cleaned my kitchen cub boards that had grease that I had not been able to take out. I was very happy with this. Once they were ready to leave, we noticed that most of my floor had a residue of some sort and was not clean. They had cleaned the floor with some sort of cloth. I told them it had to be redone because you could clearly see residue, streaks, and it was sticky when we walked on the floor. I took out the steam mop and showed them how I cleaned the floor and it was visible how dirty the floor was as the mop pads had a lot of dirt. Misael took over and he started to clean the floor as we had to leave. When we got back we noticed that with the exception of the kitchen ( which I had to mop again) after mopping again the floor looked much better. I called Misael to schedule a maintenance clean which he agreed to however, he then said he would need to charge me $10.00 more since I wanted them to use the steam mop. I asked him to think about it and possibly reconsider since I was trying to make their job easier ( since Misael agreed the steam mop was great and said they may even consider a commercial steam mop) I really didn’t care what they used to clean my floor as long as it was left clean. He agreed to leave the cost at our original price. We then set up a date for them to come back out. I get a text the night before saying his wife did not feel well and could not come as agreed. Misael then rescheduled us for the following Friday and also set the time to be at 12:00ish. Well......this time I received another text a little over 2 hours before our appointment that he had to go out of town on an urgent issue. Also that I should find another cleaning service. A professional would have called instead of texting. If the issue was the floor then he could have just been honest but to cancel twice and via text is very disappointing. That is why I rated only 2 stars.. not punctual or professional.
