I hired Sergey to remove a ceiling fan with lights and assemble and install a replacement. He arrived when he said he would, worked quickly, and cleaned up afterward. I believe I paid a fair price and I'm happy.

KEVIN WAS HIRED TO REPAIR/INSTALL CEILING FAN AND REMOVE TV ANTENNA. HE WAS QUICK TO RESPOND WITH A ESTIMATE AND WE SCHEDULED A REPAIR DATE/TIME. HE WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT BOTH ITEMS I WANTED TO BE FIXED. HE REPAIRED THE CEILING FAN AND REMOVED THE ANTENNA AS AGREED WITH A TRULY PROFESSIONAL STANDARD. HE ALSO LOOKED AT A FUTURE PROJECT (REPLACING TWO TOILETS) AND MADE RECOMMENDATIONS. I WAS REALLY HAPPY WITH THE WORK DONE AND WILL DEFINITELY BE RETAINING HIM FOR ANY PROJECTS IN THE FUTURE.

We had a great experience working with Jose. He was the only person that responded to our initial inquiry with a quote that matched the services requested and a clear understanding of the job. In advance of our appointment, he helped evaluate the new faucet that we planned to install and was accommodating when we thought it might not arrive in time for our scheduled appointment. He arrived on time, working quickly and efficiently. The end result was perfect - the newly installed faucet looks amazing and he fixed a problem with one of our sinks that was the result of someone else’s poor workmanship. We will definitely reach out to Jose for any future projects we might have.

Sunny Appliance Repair was great. They spent two hours thoroughly evaluating our dishwasher and explaining what was wrong with it. Ultimately, they advised us to replace the dishwasher since the price of the repair would be more than the value of the machine. Even after putting in so much time, they only charged us the estimate fee.

We found Salinas home remodeling services most helpful in several ways. Services done for us included electrical wiring, plumbing installation, wall and ceiling painting with texture applications. Also, bathtub, sink and appliance installation. All work was done at high standards. Note: we also experienced generous and positive attitudes from soft spoken professionals, and received on time service. Above all, we have memories of his installation process that are most rewarding. Thank You, Mr. Vyron Salinas and his helper Pablo. Yours truly, Nicholas Adkins

We hired Mr. Nguyen to install a vintage kitchen sink. It was very complicated and time consuming. He did a fantastic job at figuring out how to do it and made it look great. He took his time and cleaned up after himself. We would definitely hire him again.

We hired Zuta Appliance Repair to fix our ailing dishwasher when it mysteriously stopped working. Alex responded to our request quickly and was extremely professional throughout the process. He gave us a two hour window for the next day and literally arrived at exactly the start time of that window. He worked quickly and in general, the whole process was easy. My one critique was that the final bill came out to be three times the initial "estimate and diagnostics", which was unexpected but not unfair. I would hire Alex again.

Very experienced and professional. Got our gas line extended for new dual fuel range. Great quality work. Also got a permit from the city and they knew the CA plumbing codes. Inspection was quick and easy ( inspector signed off in just 5 mins ). Planning to get all my future work done by them. Highly recommend for anyone.

I reached out to a few services for a washing machine repair quote and in my request, Alex was the only one who provided some info about an error I'm receiving. Alex replied with an explanation of a few options of what may be causing it and what it'll take to repair. He came out and provided an initial assessment and isolated the problem, provided me the part number and a few options on how we can source the part; either through him (he'll source it locally) or online; which I did. Once the part arrived, I contacted Ale and he came out on a Sunday evening to install the part. He didn't have to but was proactive and demonstrated a sense of urgency to ensuring my washer was fixed. Great service, very nice person and very knowledgeable; do not hesitate to contact Alex for your appliance repair needs.

Nathan from FixEm Appliance Repair was great. When he got here he was friendly, explained everything he was doing, what was wrong with my stove, and what the parts would cost me. I appreciated his cheerful efficiency as well. Their customer service rep Moses was also very efficient, this company has full transparency and was open about the entire process from the initial phone call to my fixed stovetop they are Amazing! Will definitely recommend them!!!

My Whirlpool Duet Dryer was failing to start running -- just a "beep" and "click" when I pushed the Start button, but the drum wouldn't turn. Poking around on YouTube and Google I figured out how to get the diagnostics codes out of the display. Showed "88" code and all LED lights lit up, which means that all looked good. I contacted 6 appliance repair shops through Yelp and gave them all the same info. Tim from IRBIS responded almost immediately and he and I did some more diagnostics over the phone. We thought it could either be the Thermal Fuse or the whole circuit board. He gave me a quote for either repair, in writing, shortly thereafter, and since the other 5 repair shops were not as responsive, I made an appointment to have it repaired the next day. Ryan showed up on-time and got to work. He had to take the entire machine apart to get to the Thermal Fuse. He tested it with the multimeter and it, indeed, was bad. He replaced the part with one that was working (which we also tested) and put the whole machine back together. But when we started it up, there was a different problem. The diagnostics codes now said "6E". Ryan took it apart again and took a close look at the door switch, which appeared to be broken as well. He was able to fix it by hand and put everything back together. In the end, Ryan spent a lot of time with me and fixing the dryer. He charged me exactly what Tim had quoted. The work includes a 6-month warranty and I feel confident that these guys will make it right if anything does go wrong. Good, quality service. Thanks to Ryan and Tim for the professional work!

The most professional and knowledgeable plumber I’ve ever hired! Dom came over to install a simple water heater, what happened next was out of the playbooks. The pipes burst, the tubing was incorrect, and Dom handled it like a true pro and stayed here for hours on a Saturday. One of the most amazing human beings I’ve met in a very long time, if you need to hire a true professional that you could trust.Dom is the man for you! Also, he went above and beyond with fixing little repairs that he was witnessing as he was doing his job. A true professional from top to bottom.

Very happy I chose Swift Appliance Repair to fix my fridge. I was very impressed with the whole experience starting from speaking to their customer service rep Daniel who was very nice, scheduled same day appointment, explained everything and gave me a price range, to the technician Ali who was on time, very professional and knowledgeable. My built in LG fridge was fixed for a decent price and very promptly, even though they had to order some parts. Would definitely call them again and recommend to friends!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.
