Very professional editor. Learned a lot from her. She responds promptly.... I recommend her.....
Chris O’Toole took on the Sisyphean task of: 1) proofreading; 2) providing a general critique: and 3) giving insight on whether and how to move forward on my draft play and associated essay. Mr. O’Toole use the yellow highlighter feature in Word to show his proofreading suggestions. I am still finding grammatical and word choice errors. This may well be because—due to my limited eye-sight— I didn’t see all his yellow highlights in making my corrections. He provided a general, dip-lomatic, thoughtful critique of the play’s subject matter; use of metaphors, poetry, and language; and connection with a reader or an audience. In making and evaluating my decision to hire an editor in general and Mr. O’Toole specifically, I looked at five factors: 1) experience and expertise; 2) cost; 3) turn-around time; 4) interactions; and 5) quality of work. Regarding the first, while I do not know Mr. Toole’s experience with plays, his website clearly indicates significant experience in editing other forms of professional writing. I believe the quality of editors’ websites and offers of services is a good indicator of their knowledge of and skill in teaching clients like me how to connect with their readers and audiences. Regarding cost, other editors I consulted charged on an hourly or a per page basis while Mr. Toole, in this first editing interaction, offered a very reasonable flat fee. There are pluses and minuses with each ap-proach. A flat fee was best for me for the initial editing of a draft play. The third factor is crucial for most authors working on deadlines. Mr. O’Toole sent me his edits and critique within two weeks. A second editor I contacted told me she could not get to my draft until January. Fourth, ed-iting is a collaborative enterprise: an editor needs to know the writer’s audience, intent, focus, and voice to help that author create his or her best work. Mr. O’Toole gave me feedback and questions on the writing sample I originally sent him. He sent me a follow-up email—with a targeted ques-tion--while editing my manuscript. Overall, I am happy with the initial editing efforts Mr. O’Toole gave me: professional; cost-effective; timely; and interactive. I am still rolling around the four page, shiny, rock critique he also gave me: gold or dross; foundational, aspirational, or weighing down: moving the draft higher or back into an inky sea? Whatever it ultimately is, he initiated a thought provoking internal and external conversation for/with a novice playwright just as my response here illustrates the meta-phorical challenges Mr. O’Toole confronted in critiquing and advising me on my writing.
They've edited six or seven books for me and, unlike editors from larger publishing houses, working with them has been a refreshing delight.
She did a wonderful job on Proofreading and Editing this 88 page letter to my daughter. She did this with no mistakes and the Editing was just right. If I ever need a Proofreader or Editor in the future, Guitta would be the first person I will call.
Skip took on a job that was pretty big and what made matters worse, a person that had just neglected the fundamentals of writing. It's not that I don't know them, I was just too lazy to apply them the way they should be. He reminded me of it. I asked him to be brutally honest and he was. The wonderful thing about him, he later pointed out the good things I was doing right and eventually made my confidence skyrocket. The job your asking me to describe is not only Skip helping me with the book I am working on, but him guiding me and restoring my confidence to get me back in the fight after being knocked down by life, people and dare I say editors and publishers. He made me realize putting forth my best effort in a world that is so competitive is just too important to forget. You ask what went well with Skip? Everything, but what stood out the most was his honesty and clarity of various situations and problems. The quality of his work and guidance is excellent and I couldn't ask for any better advisor. Nothing could improve my experience with him, that's how impressed I am with him. Thanks Skip and I look forward to continuing to work with you. Sincerely, Jeffrey L. Ivory
I went to Jillian when I needed help applying for Colleges. English was always my weakest subject, and I was incredibly anxious to begin writing my submission essays. A friend of mine had been bragging about a tutor he used, and told me that she was also an editor. As soon as I contacted Jillian, I knew I would like working with her. She is committed, efficient and incredibly smart. With Skype sessions and a few in person meetings, Jillian not only helped me get through my essays, but she has improved my all around English Proficiency. Jillian offers a personalised and professional service, and is profoundly knowledgable about English and Literature. To this day, I return to Red Pen Wench whenever I need help or advice on any of my work, and I continue to recommend her to my friends and family. I couldn't speak higher of her.
Celia did a great job. What she promised she delivered at a fair price. I highly recommend her and look forward to using her talents on future projects
Patricia is a master editor. I wouldn't use anyone else. Her work is impeccable.
Great to work with, she helped me with all of my book. Her proofreading is beyond any professional I have ever seen.
Recently, due to downsizing, I found myself without work. My company reduced their workforce by nearly half. I took that time to look at my skill set and I decided I needed to grow and retool. I really wanted to focus on my communication skills: writing, verbal and even public speaking. I was looking for a communication specialist who could jump in and put together a practical guide that would help me measure my progress. Amy did all that and more. She assembled a curriculum designed to fit my needs and set markers so that I could scale the learning curve quickly. One of the things Amy always says is that good communicators must be their own best editors. She helps her students identify their weaknesses and work through them quickly. Under her I learned how to write better, develop more succinct business proposals, communicate more effectively and clearly in interviews, meetings, and the like. Perhaps most impressively I’m growing into a better public speaker. And did I say this process has also improved my interview skills? I have a clear game plan when I go into the interview and I am much more confident. Additionally, Amy showed me how to manage my social media portfolio and how to grow an online following—something most employers want to see no matter what your background these days. Amy is worth her weight in gold. I will continue to utilize her and recommend her to anyone who will listen.
Trish is a wonderful editor! Her editing of my memoir manuscript is impeccable. Her skills far exceeded my expectations. She's good at what she does, and is sensitive to my "baby." As a writer, that is important to me. Her suggestions for making changes are spot on. I highly recommend her for any and all editing and writing services!

Kat Boyd is amazing and very easy to work with. She is a very passionate about her work and helps make clear to the writer what needs to be done to advance and better your story. She's brilliant and great to get along with. I recommend her to anyone and everyone.
Designed website for our company and has done important letters for us. Her knowledge of words and what they mean is fantastic. She teaches very well, too. Very competent in this area and I've seen her explain things to people that are very difficult to do.
Shaula is a professional and highly competent editor. I send everything I write to her, be it chapters of my novel, posts to my blog and even sometimes verbose emails. Her attention to detail is astounding and she not only proofreads exceptionally well, she also focuses on content and readability. She poses questions and comments on the things that work and the things that don't. Having a vast knowledge of literature and books, this makes her an excellent source to also bounce ideas of of, if one is worried about flow or plot problems. She can think it through and give her feedback. Shaula is more than just a proofreader, she's an editor. And she's the best one I've ever used!
Working with Julia Bourbois has been a pleasure. She is very bright, responsive, professional, and an excellent writer/editor. I would recommend her to anyone.
