My son has been taking guitar lessons from John (Whitehead) for about a year now. We couldn't be happier. John is professional, patient and very competent. My son has mild autism, so it's sometimes challenging to find an instructor who can get the best out of him. John has a relaxed attitude but he also stresses proper technique, so I feel like we've really struck gold. I would recommend Peaceland Music to anybody.

I had the pleasure of receiving masterful guitar lessons from James Musser. He is by far one of the most insightful guitar teachers I have ever had the pleasure of taking lessons from. He is very concise in his instructions. His teaching strategies are great he really customizes the lesson to fit the students needs. I recommend anyone to him whether you are a beginner or and advance player.

Consider yourself extremely lucky if you can get lessons with Blake Paulson. There isn't any aspect of drumming he can't teach you, and he has REAL life experience in all of it. You don't just get lessons on stuff to play, he'll teach anything and everything from hand and foot technique to recording drums, playing and recording with other musicians, playing in all styles of music, millions of different way to approach your practice, or whatever else you can think of to work on, and if you can't think of anything he'll pinpoint what you really need to work on and he'll take it from there. Exactly what you would want from a teacher. He has also written many of his own method books for learning and practicing which by themselves are great tools to advance your playing, but you can actually get lessons from the author himself. There isn't a better way to get the most out of the material! Plus (if that wasn't already enough) he has a real professional rehearsal studio to have the lessons where you play on REAL equipment and get to record on state-of-the-art recording equipment that would be used in REAL professional recording scenarios. Blake's got all the tools you need to succeed plus years of experience as a teacher and successful professional musician, couldn't ask for a better teacher! Thanks for teaching Blake!

Blake is an amazing musician and an exceptional drum instructor. I've been taking lessons with him for a few months, and I'm inspired by his knowledge and passion for drumming. He has a very effective approach to methods of teaching, and he keeps me challenged while helping me to move forward quickly. I was impressed with his awesome studio in N. Hollywood. It's clean, organized, and the the most practical setting for learning. He's also given me advice on selecting drum equipment, drum tuning, how to approach practicing, and overcoming obstacles. Blake is positive, patient, encouraging, and makes learning the drums extremely enjoyable! I look forward to my lessons each week, and I would highly recommend Blake for drum instruction!

My son Max has been taking drum lessons from Blake for almost a year. He hit the ground running from day one, teaching the basics including reading music which I believe every musician should know. Blake's methods and personality have made drum lessons enjoyable and Max looks forwarded to his weekly sessions. I would absolutely recommend Blake to anyone interested in learning to play the drums.

An exciting learning experience! I have had lessons for a month with my instructor Bill, and will continue to study with him in the future. He is an excellent teacher. Nothing to nit-pick, everything is just amazing. He taught every single detail of what I should know about drumming, recommended a really helpful textbook to me, and even helped to make my practice a great fun other than a dull work for a beginner. I really appreciate that. If someone is expecting to have an effective and pleasing learning experience, just go ahead try to work with Bill. It is absolutely worth the time and effort.

The process from the moment I made contact with an À Deux representative to the moment my teacher showed up at the door (yes, this one could come to me!) was very efficient, timely, and friendly! I've tried to work with instructors through other companies online and off before, but this experience definitely felt more personal than most, and they really went out of their way to find the ideal teacher for me. The instructor who I was assigned is awesome so far, and I am excited for my next lesson!

Our instructor Chelsea quickly figured out how to connect with my son, invoking an excitement to learn the basics as well as the fun parts. My son expressed the desire to have longer lessons coming up, which says it all!

Stefano is a great teacher! I started taking drum lessons as an adult who'd always wanted to learn drums but had no experience. Stefano makes sure to work at your pace, finding the balance between pushing you to grow while ensuring you grasp everything and are actively improving and understanding. He also dives right into your favorite music making practicing fun and satisfying from the very start.

I have been taking guitar lessons from Kimberly via Skype for about six years. I really like her teaching style which is systematic and focused. She tailors her lessons to my goals and time. Her teaching method is to help you gain insight and skill through patient practice of gradually changing exercises. She doesn't snow you with theory, but presents it to you in digestible amounts just when it will make sense. She welcomes questions and I always learn from our discussions. She has led me to learn techniques on the guitar that I was absolutely sure I could never learn. For something to seem impossible at the start, to seem possible a week later and to be routine a month later is amazingly uplifting. Kimberly's background was first a life of teaching herself and playing gigs with all kinds of bands in all kinds of places. She has also deepened and strengthened her knowledge by gaining academic degrees in guitar and jazz and also by studying under masters. This gives her an incredibly deep understanding of learning and teaching music, an immense skill in playing guitar, and an appreciation for the challenges of playing with other people. I especially love her continued enthusiasm for guitar and that she really enjoys teaching. I have found in Kimberly the best of teachers and highly recommend her without reservation.

I started taking drum lessons later in life as I've always wanted to learn. After a great birthday present from a friend I started lessons with Mike. He is great at listening to what I wanted to learn and was very, very patient with me. I've always had trouble reading music but he taught me in no time and made the lessons very fun and interesting. He let me pick the songs I wanted to learn and he would even play along to help me get it right! Mike is a very talented drummer, musician and teacher. Nolan has training and experience in several areas of music, but I'm glad that he has a passion for teaching. He understands that people take lessons for different reasons and have individual ambitions. I have found that Nolan’s priority is to identify these goals; to see that his students progress and have fun while they are learning. He gives my daughter constant, constructive feedback during her drum lessons, and works to teach and challenge her. He is always patient and positive, and wants to know that he is helping her achieve her goals. Nolan is professional and reliable, and my daughter is fortunate to be one of his students!

Nolan is a consummate professional, both with his drumming skills and his demeanor. He is able to be firm enough with my 10 year old son (who thinks life revolves around video games), yet never overbearing. This is perfect for a kid with a short attention span! I appreciate the way he challenges my son and encourages him at the same time. I have been a life long musicians playing guitar and singing for over 25 years, and with all the drummers I know, if I was going to take drum lessons I would want to take them from Nolan!

I have met with Nolan for our first drum lesson. So far so good. I thought I was a little further along than a straight beginner , but he started with the basics. I.e. Finger grips, wrist strokes , and foot pedal hits. Which I obviously had overlooked and have not been doing correctly. That's why I chose to take lessons and am glad I chose Nolan who is very patient and a great teacher. Look forward to progressing with my drum skills with Nolans help along the way 😀

Prior to taking drum lessons with John, I had taken about 7 long gruesome years of piano lessons. My interest in music was at an all time low and I was looking for a new experience with drums. Luckily, for me, I was able to find John James, possibly the best person for the job. Right from the start, John was a positive and patient teacher. He came into every lesson with enthusiasm and encouragement and helped me to feel comfortable. His 19+ years of experience with drums and a major in percussion assured me that he knew what he was doing. John really makes an effort to make sure that all of his students know the absolute basics of drumming such as counting, reading, and technique, which will all greatly benefit you later on. His undying patience astounds me to this day and I greatly appreciate how he never yells at his students. I often have to ask for constructive criticism because he is always so positive and encouraging. However, just because he is patient does not mean that he will slow you down. He is always aware of his student's skill level and capabilities and works to constantly challenge you to a point. As a result, the rate of progression with him is pretty high. I have been taking lessons with John for about 6 months now. Although I was bad with rhythm at first (due to the piano), he helped me to progress at a very high pace. In about a month or two, I was already practicing on the drums and reading notes at a proficient level. As a college student, I naturally do not have too much time to invest in drumming but amazingly, with John's help, I am able to consistently advance further and further every week. If I hadn't met John, I would have given up drumming by now. With every lesson, John makes me feel more and more confident that someday I will become a BEAST at the drums.

I had taken about 6 months of drum lessons and sort of hit a wall with my progress. I needed a teacher who would customize for my interests and abilities and help me stay motivated to practice at home. So far I have taken 2 hours of lessons with John J who is a very patient and encouraging teacher. He has already covered so much ground that previous teachers glossed over, and I feel like I have a much more solid foundation because of it. I would recommend his drum lessons for any age because he can definitely meet you at your current skill level, and it seems like he could get along with anybody--kids, teens, and adults.

Justin M.

My first impression of John was that he contacted me back. Quickly. So right away I knew he was excited and interested to get our lessons started. His passion for music and music education is great and shows through his well thought out lesson plans which he's customized according to my skill level and progress. Speaking of which I couldn't have asked for a better teacher than John based on how much I've grown as a drummer these last few months and how much more confident I feel behind the kit. I highly recommend that you contact him immediately. You know that he'll contact you right back.

Before I brought my three-year-old son to Shawn for drum lessons, we'd had a lot of experience working together on gigs and in the studio. He's an excellent drummer and a forward-thinking musician. All I can say I that Shawn had a really uncanny way of connecting my son. He knew exactly what to say and do to get Z to listen and understand some basic concepts of playing drums AND music. A lesson that I had expected to last 15 minutes stretched into two hours of focussed learning by my son. It was kind of mind-blowing. I was really not expecting such a connection and level of communication. I can only imagine that he is able to do this at an even higher level with students of all ages. I couldn't recommend Shawn any higher. Just stop reading this and book a lesson with him. Go!

Michelle L.

Verified review

Shawn is an exceptional drum teacher. My son was three when Shawn started working with him. Shawn's patience, sense of humor and wonderful manner with children made starting an instrument so young successful and fun. Shawn is extremely talented and helps students advance quickly. Now that my son is older, Shawn taught his "rock band". Shawn led the boys to create tight impressive sound and arranged music to suit each students level. I highly recommend him for students of any age.

Shawn is a world class drummer and drum-teacher. He taught my son for almost 5 years, and my son isn't the easiest student to teach. I met Howard in1990, and had NOT played the piano for over 25 years! When I was 7-8 years old, I started my first lessons. I was, not at all knowing - BUT - I was a child prodigy! At 12, I asked my parents to let me go to Juillard! I didn't even know, back then, that everyone auditions to get into this World-REKNOWNED school! I would've gotten in! My Mother, who won all interactions with my Dad - said NO! For me - she said "Maybe for college!" To make a REALLY LONG story shorter - drugs & The 60s - GOT ME! In 1990, when Howard came into my life, I was already 7 yrs, clean & sober! AND - I had a hole in my heart, as my own music, was missing! My 1st lesson with Howard was EXTRA ORDINARY! I cried! I could NOT play a note! After awhile, that same lesson, Howard just told me to close my eyes, with my hands on the piano, and play anything! I DID! My embarrassment turned into tears of joy! After 1-2 yrs later - thinking of myself still, as a beginner (again), Howard asked me what I thought of - becoming a piano teacher! I didn't understand & I had NO degrees! Howard told me I only needed a degree to teach in Public Schools! I had, NEVER - in my life, allowed someone else to help me create my own path! BUT - watching Howard, teaching me & others - he was ALWAYS SMILING! I thought that, just MAYBE - I could be smiling too, AND - get paid for that too?!? Howard took a photo of me, helped me word a flyer, AND - actually, got me my very 1st student! I was TERRIFIED! Howard told me - just show up & you will know JUST WHAT TO DO! He even, because of my deep fear - told me that IF I could not show up - DON'T! Within 6 months of waitressing & a few piano students, AGAIN! Here comes Howard! A fellow piano teacher/friend - who had 30 students - found the love of HER life, was moving out-of-state & asked Howard what to do with her business!?! He told her to give it to D.J. (ME!) We met for lunch, & within 1 week, I was a full-time piano teacher!!!!! You want a referral? GO SEE HOWARD! 😊 XoX ❤️ There is no one - BETTER!!!!!

Howard Richman is not a piano teacher...he is a LIFE CHANGER. I went to him to learn piano...but realized that the lessons I learned studying piano with the MASTER were not merely lessons in music....but lessons that helped me see outside the paradigm in all areas of my life. Often, as adults, we "come back" to our music...to study what we have been "wanting to get back to" for years. I learned that this is often a time of great change and evolution for us personally. Howard, being so intuitive, knows how to tune in to each individual's needs.... and empower them to EMPOWER themselves. He is a BRILLIANT pianist, composer and master teacher. I've watched him perform miracles with young children who struggled with other teachers who simply wanted to teach "by the book." Howard is always able to find your inner talent and abilities, possibly that are even unknown to you...and he can creatively, intuitively and intelligently create a course of action that will leave you amazed! That's why you are reading SO many wonderful comments here about him. If you are lucky enough to get to study with Howard, it will change your life!...and btw, I can now play a mean Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata"....Thank you for everything you taught me Howard Richman! I wanted a teacher that could work with an older adult who not had piano lessons since childhood. After many years, I wanted to challenge myself by getting back into piano and I wanted to bring music back into my life. I was a bit nervous about making the commitment and about the time investment that would be required. I also didn’t know a good teacher so I asked around. Howard’s name came up. He was recommended as a patient and knowledgeable teacher that would do wonders with students. Howard’s approach is not the conventional one that I experienced as a child. He presents many types of approaches and uses lots of tools and techniques to build your skills and understanding of the structure of music. Now, I’m stretching myself to learn, remember and apply these skills and it feels really good! I actually enjoy practicing my piano. Now thats a testimony to Howard’s influence! If you are looking for a teacher that can accommodate your needs, encourage and inspire you, meet Howard and try him out. I’m confident that you will be very pleased with him as a professional and as a teacher.

My son Prahalad had taken piano lessons with Cesar Canocelis before we moved to Northern California. Prahalad started out as a complete beginner and within a year, he was playing some beautiful pieces. Cesar is engaging, energetic and very good with kids. He has a good sense for what each child will enjoy and how each child learns. Prahalad always looked forward to his lessons and stayed interested in piano throughout. Cesar focussed on technique, skill and theory while cultivating a genuine love for the instrument in the child. Prahalad still loves to play the piano, thanks to Cesar and the wonderful foundation he gave him!

My son began taking drum lessons with Lindsay via skype at 6 years old. He will be 9 next month and is still loving his drum lessons. He has learned so much in such a short period of time. Not only is Lindsay clearly a skilled drummer but is also an apt teacher. She is patient while pushing my son to improve his skills. I know from personal experience that learning an instrument can be frustrating to the point that the student will want to give up. This is especially true for a kid. Lindsay understands this and has the ability to balance progress with patience. I highly recommend Lindsay as a drum teacher!

We love having Brian Griffin as a drum/percussion teacher. My son began lessons as a young elementary student, and Brian was able to engage him immediately by creating lessons around the music he was drawn to. Over the years Brian's teaching continually evolved with my son's interests and focus. There has always been an excellent rapport between them, while maintaining the dynamic of student/teacher relationship. Brian has always shown a high level of professionalism, he's always engaged and enthusiastic, and my son has developed not only in the mechanics of percussion but also what it means to be part of an ensemble and just an overall well-rounded musician. We are grateful for his years of instruction and support.
