Gleo was a relief come true! He is a true professional who made an extra effort to respond to our request repair our light switch ASAP. He came from a very late night previous appointment to do the repair as my 83 year old father in law is a home kidney dialysis patient who was bothered by the light that we couldn’t turn off. Gleo’s work quality is excellent as he not only fixed the damaged light switch but replaced the 2nd switch, that was also damaged and would have failed soon. We are extremely pleased with Gleo’s dedication to perform superior work at a very reasonable price, his quick response that went above and beyond the call of duty and his overall professionalism. He will be our number one contact if we have any future needs !!!!

I hired Jasper from My Apartment Is Better Than Yours. I think they did a terrific job at a very reasonable price. I'm really pleased that I decided to go with them. I had a number of unusual carpentry tasks to complete when I moved to my new place. The windows were old and the wood was irregular and moldy, so the wood around the antique glass panels needed to be replaced. I was told those windows hadn't been opened in 40 years, but now they work perfectly and you'd never know the wood wasn't original. Also, several doorways lacked doors when I moved in, and were unusual rounded shapes cut into the stucco without doorframes. Jasper was able to make me custom doors with antique iron-wrought handles, and they look awesome. I also needed threshholds worked on, cabinets put up, new benches made for my roof deck, a custom projector and screen put in, antique chandeliers installed, a lock repaired... and I'm probably forgetting one or two things. They are in the process of putting the finishing touches on my humidor (they had to build me custom legs for it), and it's going to look spectacular. Anyway, they knocked it all out of the park. They were prompt and clean and didn't cause much of a disturbance despite all the work they were doing. They'll be my go-to for anything I need done in the future. I definitely recommend them.

Alex fixed my Thermador oven and range. It’s taken 7 years and three service people to get it repaired. He did it for $250 labor and parts. It works perfectly now! He was not able to fully repair my Bosch dryer but came back three times and got it working better. I think it has more to do with my very old dryer. He refunded me labor costs in full without my even asking! I’ll work with Alex again! I highly recommend him.

I put in my request with Thumbtack Sunday afternoon. Within an hour he gave a quote and after my acceptance he said he would be able to fix it by Monday evening if the part suggested by my description was available. Early Monday he texted that the part was available and kept me informed about the time the technician would arrive. The job was completed by about 10PM on Monday and the washer now works fine. Previous attempts at dealer service over the years would take weeks. Many thanks to SF Bay Area Appliance Repair and to Thumbtack. Jim Half Moon Bay

I got initially a few reply on Thumbtack and I had 2 electricians check out the work to be done and got a quote. Majestic Electric overall was the most professional and explained every things that needed to be done. We agreed on a time for the following week and as expected Nasar came that day and right away started to work on time. I checked the work during the day and I could see the progress. Nasar was extremely professional during the while project and keeping me informed -especially when he had to turn off for a few minutes the electricity. The job was completed the following day because of my old electrical panel (nothing wrong with Nasar’s job) and 20 minutes after his return my new NEMA 14-50 plug was installed and fully working in the garage. Nasar took the time to clean up the place he worked on. I will definitely re-hire Nasar due to his professionalism and the quality of the work delivered: I am posting this review one week later after using the electrical work he did every day and I had zero issue. So great electrician who on top of that is extremely professional.

Alex advised us about the cost of repair to our 11 year old dryer and what the overall condition of our dryer was. By his fair advisement we decided to repair rather than to buy a new one. His repair did solve the issue we were having. He also at no extra cost did a quick overall check on our washer which we appreciated.

Ahmad was able to repair both a dishwasher and stove issue for me. The initial stove repair found we needed to order a part, and after he came back when the part arrived he realized another part was needed. Ahmad was very professional and did charge me extra based on the originally agreed upon quote for all of the work. He was also able to help me with a few other handyman projects around the house while there for a reasonable rate. Would have been great if Ahmad could have improved a bit on replying to messages in a timely manner, but the work quality was good and this project needed 3 trips so I can forgive a few unreturned messages. Would hire again.

Setter really exceeded my expectations. I rented out my condo while living abroad over the past two years and came back to realize that my tenant had broken my TV and TV mount off it's wall! It was super annoying as I had just painted right before moving away (which wasn't cheap!) and I really did not want to go through the hassle of having to fix this as I knew it would be a multi-person job and potentially expensive. Setter was such a hero though. I loved that they coordinated everything for me. They found the right guys to do the job, came in with a reasonable quote (lower than I expected!), and scheduled in everything pretty quick. I was also super impressed that Setter even managed to ensure that there were enough people on the day of the repair to move my furniture out of the way. I have a large credenza in front of my TV and it was only on the day of the repair that I realized that I might need to help move it. But nope! I literally did not need to lift a finger. Workmanship wise, they did a great job. The patch is hardly noticeable at all. The work took about 1 hour and 45 minutes start to finish. And they cleaned up after themselves, which never happens in my experience. Overall, I was really impressed that Setter took the time to ensure that everyone was set up for success...even me!

Sergey did a wonderful job. He made sure to pull out the refrigerator with care so as not to damage our hard wood floors. He did a systems check and explained in simple detail what needed to be done and replsced the condenser with a more powerful one.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who fixes refrigerators?

Typically, appliance repair technicians who offer refrigeration repair also work with washers, dryers, dishwashers and other household appliances. While there is no formal training required to be an appliance repair technician, consider certification requirements, as the technician should know how to safely work with refrigerants (the chemical that keeps your fridge cold) and substitute refrigerants such as HFCs. You should also read reviews to get a sense of the pro’s experience and reputation. The appliance repair pro will come to your home, bringing all the necessary tools for diagnosis. They may need to order parts to complete the job, but all the work will take place in your home. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
