What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Plan on working with this woman til i die. I hate exercising and will not do it on my own. I work with Stephanie 3 days per week and she pushes me (and i hate it but i secretly love it). Jeff is great. On day one, there was a free session that allowed me to get an glimpse at the exercises and his training style. I really appreciated that because it allowed me to be more confident in my decision to commit. I've been training for a month with Jeff, taking his advice and direction, and everything has panned out exactly as he said it would. I don't see very many physical changes, but I feel a total difference in my body. I'm absolutely stronger than I was before I started training with him. I have more energy, I sleep better, and I am less lethargic than I was prior to training with him. I really enjoy Jeff's training style. He definitely will correct you if your technique is off, but he's very encouraging and really knows his client. He pay a lot of attention to body language, so he can always tell if I'm pushing myself too hard or too little in an exercise. He's great at adjusting your technique and pacing so that you get the most out of each exercise. I've had to change my sessions times one or twice because my schedule has been pretty hectic this January. Jeff was really easy to work with and we were always able to find a time and schedule that worked best for both of us. He truly cares about his clients and the overall betterment of his client's health. I would recommend Jeff to anyone who's just beginning to get into fitness or someone who's been active before and would like to get back to an active lifestyle with an accountability partner who understands your needs and will work just as hard as you to help you reach your goals.

I started training with Melody in March. At the time I had been overweight for a while had been on yoyo ‘’diets’’ for years on and off and always ended up back heavier than I had originally started. Rachel is a great trainer and I highly recommend her services for your training needs. From the moment I first met her, she’s been professional as well as very personable. She continues to impress me with not only her positive disposition but also her vast knowledge of physical training. She is very thorough in explaining what needs to be done during each session. Each workout is challenging yet new, and all are designed to not only target and help me strengthen and tone key areas and muscle groups, but she also makes modifications, as needed, to meet the physical challenges I have with my prior knee injuries. I have been training under the watchful eye of TK for 2 weeks now reaching some of the most impressive results I thought were unattainable. Finding TK was a true blessing and it restored my faith in working out with a personal trainer again, after sustaining an injury. If there is PT industry blue print or a standard of who and what a Personal Trainer should be, I can say that TK sets the bar quite high and goes above and beyond anything one can expect. Reaching a personal working out plateau and getting frustrated with the minimal results, one day in June, after spending hours of fitness blogs reading and searching for new methods I came across thumbtack, where one fills out a questionnaire, shares his goals and then waiting for a response begins. I set my expectations on the lowest mode possible, not really expecting much than maybe a handful of responses that would probably be templates or general copied statements that sound the same. I received about a dozen introductions within 24 hours, which was actually quite surprising, from those two stood out the most, but TK’s took the winning. In writing he sounded genuinely interested in helping yet another individual without making empty promises. We exchanged a few emails, I shared as much details about my past and current workout routines and eating habits and we set a time for a free consultation. Still I went with a little bit of reserve and hesitation, in writing it sounded great already but words can’t describe the hands on approach. Meet the trainer: TK is very approachable, without making you feel intimidated. Detail oriented, he had all of my info written down, we went through a few things, asking addition questions and filling in the blanks. He ensures there are no physical limitations prior to exercising. We took the necessary measurements. Then we moved on to physical assessment and he put me through a few routines that truly broke some serious sweat. Even though I thought I was working out hard myself for the past 2 months, his session made me feel as if I had never set a foot at the gym. I quickly realized how much work is there to do, and if he can keep the kind of workout, then this is who I want to train with. The workout: TK uses a variety of exercises ranging from using your own body weight, cable machines and free weights, making each set, each exercise and session designed to target the muscle group trained on giving day, without letting it adapt fast, thus keeping your body on its toes at all times. I still haven’t gone through the same set of exercises yet and he keeps finding those weak spots that I oh so hate, but am glad he notices what needs attention. He pays great attention to ensure you maintain the proper form, correcting when necessary, supporting and pushing you when you feel like giving up. The diet: My diet was great, oh so I thought, until he really took a closer look at it, made necessary suggestions and changes and got me on a track to pay attention to calorie intake, carbs, fat and protein. I was quite obsessed with cutting a lot of food out of my diet prior to TK, and now eating is actually more enjoyable and fun, as it should be. Yes it takes a little self discipline to adopt the new habit but it is oh so worth it. The follow up: Another aspect of being TK’s client that sets him apart from others, is his post workout follow up. Usually when you are done with the session, you don’t see your trainer until the next time. He actually takes time to touch base with you and make sure you are recovering well and reminds you about the next time. To sum it up: In the city of Angels, where one can hire a trainer almost on every corner, TK is a diamond in a rough. After just 2 weeks getting to the lowest BF% of my life while increasing the muscle mass, having better energy and improved sleeping, and need to buy some new clothes. I’m looking forward to my further journey in fitness and health under his guidance. Of course he is not a miracle worker, it takes two to achieve any slight change. Him - the trainer, to guide you and motivate you to keep going, and you - the client, to really step it up and give all you got and then some. If you are truly serious about making a change, wether you are a novice or an avid gym rat, trust me when I say that he will get you where you need to be. TK really is here to help you reach your fitness potential.

I’m an extremely reserved person in general, however, Matt made me feel comfortable considering the virus we’re experiencing this year. Before I made the choice to make an appointment to have Matt come out for a trial session I was very anxious and nervous because I didn’t know what to expect since I’ve never taken any kind of boxing class or done any exercises where it involved a personal trainer. Turns out it was the greatest decision I’ve made! Matt was exceptionally professional, kind, knowledgeable and supporting. I felt so at ease with the energy he projects and the workout was AMAZING! I’m the type of person where it takes a lot to make me break a sweat but this workout really kicked my butt. As a fairly thin woman my main concern is learning self defense in order to protect myself if I ever find myself in a dangerous situation and I’m very confident that I’m going to learn a lot with Matt and his team. He gave me his full and undivided attention and showed me what my weaknesses are and which areas I need to work on. He even gave me insightful advice for my diet. After just one session I felt extremely happy and confident which are emotions that I haven’t had in a while and I can’t express the excitement I feel to start consistent classes. I have not yet booked my full sessions with him for personal reasons, but Fightfit Personal Trainers will be my go to in the near future. I only had one session with Matt and I was extremely impressed! I will NOT be looking for any other trainers in this field other than Fightfit Personal Trainers!

Finding a personal trainer that's right for you is kind of like finding a therapist: you have to try out a few. Well, I lucked out and upon my first meeting with Carlos, I knew I would end up going with him. Carlos is always super laid back and conversational, which is important to me, as it makes me feel mentally comfortable doing exercises that usually make me self-conscious. Instead of being afraid of the gym, I look forward to it each and every time I had a 1:1 with Carlos. He really cares and was interested in exactly what *I* wanted to see, results-wise. On top of his genial personality, he still kicked my ass - in a good way. I'm the kind of person that needs to be pushed, and he definitely does that, but with good fun. Definitely recommend!

His approach is always engaging and will foster your success. Carlos draws from a vast repertoire of original exercises that engage the mind and draw it away from concerns about finishing the number of repetitions he has properly chosen just for you. His approach is both comprehensive and realistic to your life’s demands. When I needed a travel workout suitable for a small space Carlos provided an excellent one in the form of short helpful videos with him demonstrating and describing each exercise. And should you have a question he a mere text away. Carlos will invest in your health—all of it and be ready to share his diverse expertise with you. Recently I injured a muscle and texted Carlos. He responded within minutes and his advice had me pain free and mobile within the hour. I eat better thanks to Carlos. Although diverse and comprehensive in his offerings Carlos will not bombard or overwhelm you—he is especially mindful that substantial progress can be achieved in a stepwise fashion. By suggesting one small achievable change at a time he will guide you in transforming your life according to your own priorities. Carlos will commit to your “long game” and keep you moving forward without ever nagging you or guilting you or going all drill sergeant on you either. He will stay with you and for you, for however long it takes you to meet your evolving goals.
