  2. #2 Kelly Choi Piano Studio

    (25 reviews)

    Ken D.

I am very happy to be studying piano with Kelly Choi. I have a decent background in classical music with a music degree and a few decades of playing classical guitar, so I looked for a piano teacher with a similar background and found that teacher in Kelly. She is as knowledgeable and skilled in teaching as any music teacher I’ve ever studied with, and among the best of them. Although I’m still very much a beginner on piano, I am quite happy with my progress in the four months I’ve studied with her. Notably, Kelly has been very flexible in customizing a curriculum for me based on my preferences so I’m playing music that I want to play while at the same time working through a classic method book that is a good fit for me. I find no pressure in Kelly’s teaching method even though I know from years of weekly guitar lessons that she is being quite meticulous. I highly recommend her.

  3. #3 Lara's Piano Coaching

    (21 reviews)

    Julian S.

Lara's specialty sets her apart among piano instructors. Her teaching method focuses on getting students to learn rhythm and sight-reading. While it sounds basic, it is really the foundation of music. By focusing on these skills first, it enables the student to do so much more over time. Mastering the ability to sightread alone empowers me to learn any new sheet music, and not quit in the process because I got overwhelmed or frustrated... I am 30 years old and took 3.5 years of various music courses during my schooling, including violin, guitar, percussion, and piano. None of my previous instruction ever set me free in the sense that I could go pick up some random, unfamiliar sheet music, and learn how to play it in minutes on my own. That's where Lara's lessons have been different. Despite only going to Lara's lessons for 3 months, I feel like I could learn any popular music song on the piano in a single day--eat your heart out Maroon 5! It's been a great experience so far and I look forward to continue my progress. Another benefit of her method is I will be able to learn how to sing and play simultaneously--something I never believed would be possible for me!

    Charles A.

I've been working with Susan for a bit over a month, now and have been thoroughly enjoying it. I'm an older adult with only a bit of music background, but none in piano. Susan has been able to pace my lessons to my needs and I feel that I've been making quite a bit of progress. She's very patient, friendly, and helpful. It's been a great experience so far.

Thumbtack Spotlight

Taryn's Melodies Studio

(4 reviews)

I've spent time in so many different cities over the past few years; my students have a wide range of diversity. I've adapted to teaching a variety of styles of music, and arranged them specifically for piano, violin, guitar and voice.

Taryn of Taryn's Melodies has been teaching since she was 16 years old. She studied in Berklee College of Music while she continued to teach private lessons. She opened her studio when she graduated. She believes listening is an effective strategy in maintaining customer satisfaction.

I ask the students their specific goals, and prepare each lesson with exercises and pieces that will help them to get the most efficient results. Music should never become boring; it is a person's best form of communication. I have been blessed to never have lost a student to anything other than scheduling issues.

Her most successful project was helping a woman seeking vocal instructions to overcome severe speech impediments whenever her emotions ran high. After a few weeks of deep diaphragm breathing exercises and working on phrase endings, she began to feel relaxed, her speech began to improve and for the first time, she was able to have fun.
