Individualized Tutoring and Test Prep (Best of Thumbtack Winner)

    (32 reviews)

We've structured Learning Period to function more as a team than a giant corporation. We truly get to know our customers in order to provide an optimal learning experience that is both flexible and effective. Our ability to pair students with a tutor that is available when they are is just the beginning. For our K-12 students, our aim is to forge bonds. Our tutors are assigned the same tutors for the semester, in order to foster a sense of trust, continuity, and rapport. Our adult students are not treated any differently! Regardless of age, we strive to provide a concierge-like atmosphere because we know it's truly about the customer's experience; there are plenty of options when it comes to selecting the right private tutor. The greatest thing about being in education is knowing that we've made a difference in both the long term, as well as short-term. For example, each of the students we've sent to Ivy League schools not only has experienced the joy of having a dream come true (short-term triumph) but will now be better equipped to serve the world at large - a long-term result of our services.

Many tutors do this as side work. I work full-time professionally as a tutor and uphold the highest professional standard. I put together lesson plans, tailoring programs individually to students so that I am teaching in a way that they can best understand. I refine and adapt my programs as we go, based on the results I'm seeing. This ensures that students receive an experience that is above and beyond the rest. My only goal is to raise grades and test scores, and I never lose focus or deviate from that goal for one second, and I ensure that my students feel motivated, interested, and engaged, which makes all the difference. I love the creativity involved in unlocking a student's best performance. Every student has a different approach to schoolwork and tests. Deciphering that approach and taking it to a higher level is a challenge and one that keeps the job exciting!

My number one priority is to help your student succeed academically. A student who works with me will leave our sessions feeling academically confident and excited about education. I go above and beyond to ensure that your student understands all concepts and that the tutoring sessions are stress-free. Above all, I love helping people learn and feel good about themselves academically. I believe this shows in my work. What I like most about tutoring is the feeling that I have helped another person better themselves. Even if it is only in one small way, I feel enriched with the possibility of helping someone improve his or her life.

Before I start to teach math, I diagnose the student's math level. I should know what's student's situation. Then I explain the basic concepts of topic and give some math questions. After class, I will give some homework. Student should return homework following class.I will review student's situation. Homework to be done by student until they fully understand it. I believe student will be equipped with new math skills. To help any student with smart solution will change their future. • Initia Education Academic Success Coaching

    (4 reviews)

I founded Initia Education, my academic success coaching company, to help bright students who are struggling with time management and challenges such as ADD/ADHD by teaching them proven systems that empower them to thrive in school and develop lifelong habits of success. Our unique services combine the rigor of systems used by high-achieving scholars, business leaders, and athletes with the foundation of mindfulness, growth mindset, and metacognitive skills. Since 2007, my team and I have helped hundreds of students including children and adults with diagnoses such as visual and auditory processing disorders. In school, I faced my own battles with anxiety and ADD/ADHD and learned that the right mentor can help any student rise and reach their true potential. I have helped my students earn admission and scholarships to top universities such as Stanford, Cal Berkeley, USC, UCLA, Boston College, and Carnegie Mellon. They walked the path—I shined the light on it. My mission is to empower students to learn how to learn, achieve greatness, and harness their unique gifts to better our communities and the planet. I look forward to joining hands with you on this mission. My journey from high school through UCLA and beyond was a rollercoaster of what I felt were great failures and successes. Despite my achievements earning scholarships and being inducted into honor societies and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, I struggled with time management and stress for years... until I found a couple of inspiring mentors who taught me a powerful lesson: Learn and pay it forward. That is why I love to bring my compassion and energy to every one of my students—because I know they too can achieve incredible things with the right guidance and inspiration.

Thumbtack Spotlight

Tutor & Editor Pro

(5 reviews)

When looking for an expert to teach us certain subjects, we need to find an effective and inspiring tutor. That's the role of Christina Hoag.

I gear my services to my clients' needs, whether it be learning prepositional phrases in English, conjugating past tenses in Spanish or proofreading for grammar and punctuation in a memoir manuscript. I'm very accommodating of clients schedules.

Christina specializes in improving her clients' skills in Spanish and English. Her expertise include reinforcing reading and writing skills, or editing documents.

My favorite and most successful project is co-authoring a book on gang intervention called Peace in the Hood: Working with Gang Members to End the Violence. Not only did I write, research and do interviews on this fascinating topic, I wrote the book proposal and sold it to a publisher.
