    Lysa S.

There was a bit of confusion with payment, time (central time vs. pacific--a 5:30 time was thought by instructor to be 3:30 due to pacific vs. central time scheduling), but all was cleared up relatively easily with some email communication. Ultimately a good experience. My son really likes his instructor!

  2. #2 West Los Angeles Voice Studio

    (53 reviews)

    Kaitlyn F.

This is gonna sound like one of those annoying infomercials on TV, or like a fake reviewer Griff paid to boost his ratings on Thumbtack, but I assure you everything I'm about to say is absolute TRUTH. I've had about ten voice teachers since I started taking lessons (back in like 1999 lol) and Griff easily blows all of them out of the water--that includes the vocal professors I had at university. He understands the vocal mechanism and how to undo all those nasty habits we build up over the years, causing unnecessary strain. He can isolate the minutest aspects of improper breathing and muscular tension in ways no teacher has EVER done for me before. In the past, I can't say how many times I begged my multiple teachers ad nauseum to help resolve my little vocal issues (throat tension and a weak head voice in the lower range), yet none of their exercises or lectures ever helped me completely overcome them. By the time I met Griff, I'd pretty much given up on singing the way I'd always dreamed of--in a clear, strong tone without feeling like I was pulling. And yet, in my very first lesson with him, I was able to hit a high D in full voice without an ounce of strain. Talk about mind-blowing. I knew from that moment that under his tutelage I would improve like crazy, and I really have. Did I say Griff is the best? Well, I'm saying it again. In addition to having a very complete understanding of how the voice works, Griff is articulate and knows exactly what metaphors and visual imagery to use in order to get you to sing with proper support and ease. He's great at explaining complex vocal technique by breaking each term down to the student's level of understanding. As a result, he is able to teach a wide variety of vocal backgrounds--from beginner to advanced. He works his students hard, but is NEVER scolding or harsh. He is very understanding and always goes the extra mile to help you in your singing journey. What I also like about his teaching style is that he doesn't try to impose any particular sound on you. I've had teachers who claim classical is the only REAL mode of singing, and everything else is garbage. (I've also had teachers who sucked pretty badly at more modern styles of singing, or who were not as comfortable singing in the classical style). Not only is Griff competent at all genres, but he encourages you to sing whatever style you wish by finding your NATURAL VOICE. According to him, once you learn how to sing with your own voice (without trying to mimic anyone else's sound through improper technique), it should be easy for you to adapt to any style. You'd be surprised how few actually espouse this philosophy. I honestly never write reviews because there are few things out there I feel strongly enough to write one on, but with Griff I make an exception. I could not have asked for a better teacher and cannot recommend him highly enough. GOOOOOO GRIFF!!!!!!!

  3. #3 Rena Panush

    (28 reviews)

    Valerie V.

Rena is an excellent vocal instructor. This is the first time I've taken voice lessons, and I really appreciated first learning about my instrument with excersies that broadened my vocal range and focused on proper breathing techniques. She holds a wealth of knowledge and experience on all things voice. Lastly, she is patient but knows when to push her students to achieve their potential.

Though I did not end up with Diana, I really enjoyed my lesson with her. She makes you feel comfortable and confident in your abilities while also making you aware of your body as your instrument when singing.

  5. #5 Rickie Gole

    (25 reviews)

    Kelly K.

I graduated with a degree in theatre and have always wanted to sing. I've toured with my dad and have taken voice lessons with many teachers over the years. Rickie Gole is the teacher I have been looking for my whole life. When I first tried her class all I knew about her was that her students (who I went to school with) were always getting cast and hired. They had beautiful voices and I wanted so badly to sing like them. Since taking lessons with her for about a month now I have discovered something else. I am finding a new voice that is completely mine. I leave her classes more confident, happier, and freer. My biggest obstacle so far is trying not to get emotional because my voice is shocking me. It's how I've always wanted to sing and never believed I could. I completely don't recognize it. Her genuinely warm and encouraging presence makes me unafraid to make mistakes and try new things and because of that I'm singing like I never have in my life. Thank you Rickie.

What do you love about your job?

I love helping my students to find their own voice and style. Seeing their faces when they make a breakthrough in their technique or really nail a specific song is something I truly love about my job.

What or who inspired you to start your own business?

All of the voice teachers I've had in the past inspired me. Their help to me was imperative to my successes in my own career, and I want to do the same for others.

Describe your most memorable project.

The last two years, I have produced showcases for my students to give them a chance to perform and invite their friends and family to see them. Seeing them shine and occasionally performing with them are amazing experiences.
