I purchased bass guitar lessons for my Dad with Dylan. Dylan was very thoughtful and responsive. My Dad has had 3 lessons so far and loves it. He had been learning on his own and says things make sense now and he also appreciates the music theory that Dylan incorporates into the lessons. He and I recommend Dylan.
I have been receiving guitar lessons from Dave for about 4-5 months now and it has done wonders for my playing ability and understanding of music in general. He is a super nice guy and an incredibly persistent instructor. He is both encouraging and rigorous; a great combination that has yielded fantastic results for me personally. Such a patient guy too, great with younger musicians who may just be starting out. Highly recommend you check him out if you're looking to get into guitar, piano, mandolin or ukelele; first lesson is free, so see for yourself if he might be a good fit for you.
About Jerry: Jerry knows bass. He knows technique, he knows theory, he knows gear, he knows music history (past and present). Most importantly, he knows how students learn bass and thus he is able to tell you what you need to know and what to practice in oder to improve. My Experience: Jerry immediately found the holes in my technique and gave me a few lessons in bass theory that I hadn't already figured out by trial-and-error and applying theory from other instruments. He gave me exercises to work on to improve my chops and get my playing to a higher technical level. He taught me about the intricacies of the bass instrument and the gear associated in creating bass tone. He gave me songs and bass players to listen to and play along to in order to get the basslines I wrote sounding more mature and appropriate for the style/genre of their songs. And all the while he would immerse me in the culture of bass. Turning me on to the history of the instrument, the evolution of how it has been played through the years, the different styles of playing and how they fit into each genre, and of course the great players of the past and present. His body of knowledge around bass is just staggering. About Me: I'd been playing bass for fun for about 10 years at jams and also for about 6 months in an americana band. I'm also a serious keys player and know my music theory solid. Then I started playing bass in a funk/soul band with more technical players and realized I needed to develop some serious chops to keep up. I chose Jerry because he wasn't a guitar-player teaching bass, he's a died-in-the-wool bass player who had been teaching for years. I wanted a specialist, not someone who was going to teach me basic theory.
I am a bass player who has always played guitar here and there but nothing too serious, and about a year ago decided I really want to know the fundשmentals of guitar. A friend recommended Jacob Light, whom I've heard play before in local bands, and I decided to take the chance. I wasn't dissapointed to say the least. Jacob is a really down to earth guy who immediately understood my musical style and focused mainly on what I wanted to know, unlike other teachers I've had experience with. Even so, he knew what subjects to insist I learn, like improvisation. and scales. all this was done in a friendly, calm, cool yet persistent atmosphere which is just the right blend for learning, in my opinion.Soon enough I started feeling I really understand guitar, and this new kno'ledge even helped me with my bass guitar playing. Ive been taking guitar lessons with Jacon for 6 months and the only downdise I can think of is the fact he moved to California, otherwise I would have still take lessons from him, without a doubt.
I have a 10 year old daughter who has recently taken an interest in guitar. Santa Rosa has several places to choose from in regards to music lessons and we are very pleased to have found Dave. As a parent it is very important to find an instructor who is, not only knowledgeable & patient but also engaging & creative. After meeting with a couple of music teachers & inquiring for months on rates, I started feeling completely overwhelmed with over the top prices! It was a relief to find Dave. He is the owner of Music Biz in Santa Rosa where he also gives music lessons. On our first meeting Dave was very sweet & courteous. He asked my daughter what music she enjoyed listening to & what she would eventually like to play. My daughter said, Taylor Swift, Dave pulled out his iPad looked up one of her songs & began to play You Belong With Me on his guitar. My daughter was so surprised & excited, she turned to look at me and said, I want him to teach me guitar! It was this first encounter that made me feel confident that Dave was a good fit for my daughter. Dave keeps my daughter interested in guitar by teaching her the fundamentals while exposing her to a variety of music genres. She has been taking lessons with Dave for a little over 2 months & has enjoyed every minute. I would definitely recommend Dave as a music teacher to all my friends & family.
Great bass lessons, wonderful teacher for my son!
John is an awesome teacher. His most valuable trait is his ability to contextualize everything he teaches. Intervals and chord progressions are not just a product of music theory, but songs that I can relate to. He's very knowledgeable and is very good at explaining what I don't understand. John makes learning the guitar fun and rewarding. I'd definitely recommend him.
Chris is a fantastic teacher, very understanding and willing to teach at any pace. My sister and I took guitar and bass lessons, respectively, and were both stunned by his musical ability.
My daughter takes bass lessons from him and she seems to enjoy it quite a bit and that's saying a lot. She's an awkward turtle at best and the fact that she continues to willingly take lessons from him means that she's actually comfortable enough around him to productively learn. That's also a testament to his patience, since knowing my own daughter, she can be difficult to get through to at times. She's learned a lot in the short time that she's taken lessons from him and she tells me that he explains concepts in a way that makes it easy to understand and grasp. I plan to have her continue taking lessons from him throughout high school.
Chris is a wonderful music teacher. I called him for Bass lessons, I started Lessons the same week. By the end of my first lesson I was playing a 12 Bar Blues rif. I would recommend him to anyone that wants to learn guitar. He also taught me to read music.
Steven Husted is teaching me how to play the electric bass. I am learning from Steven at a good pace and enjoying it. He has vast musical knowledge and skill with the bass and really knows how to convey what's essential at my skill level. [Note: My 6th lesson with Steven is next week; I plan to take as many lessons with him as it takes to attain competence through, at least, Hal Leonard's Bass Method Book 2.]
Best Bass Teacher and Bassist Inna The Bay
I've really enjoyed drum lessons with Gavin. He is a great drummer and funny guy! I don't have a drum kit and he is still able to give me assignments that help me progress each week. He is very clear and lessons have been focused. He teaches out of a space that has two drum kits which is really helpful since we can both play at the same time. I'm learning a lot!
Rayners enthusiasm for music shines through on his teaching techniques. He is engaging and productive. He could communicate in a way my son could understand. His knowledge of music is amazing. I would highly recommend Rayner
My teenage son has been taking bass lessons (upright and electric) with Schuyler for the past 3 months. Schuyler is an enthusiastic instructor who has tailored the lessons to fit what my son needs, choosing songs to practice that he connects with. Schuyler has been flexible with lesson days and times to fit our busy schedule. Very happy with the lessons!
