Jeff was fantastic. He is knowledgeable, and very easy to work with. He met a quick turnaround (10 days) deadline to edit my book for content, structure, and grammar. I would recommend him, and will definitely use him again for future projects! As an author, I was seeking an editor who would work with my voice to bring it out more - not change it. Jeff brought a great balance of clarity and direction, while balancing and polishing my voice - not inserting his. After interviewing two other editors and working with one in the past, this seems a rarer commodity than it sounds. His fees are also comparable to industry competitors, and reasonable. I will definitely use Jeff again for future editing and feedback about my writing!
Relieved, that's how I felt once I began working with Michael. I knew my story was solid, but needed help. From the beginning his feedback was invaluable. In written comments he helped me develop stronger three-dimensional characters, tighten the tone, pace, tension, and that all-important narrative voice. After his initial assessment I did the first of three rewrites. Each version was better. Michael was spot-on with suggestions of where I needed to restructure a scene or reflect a character's underlying motivation. He was so helpful with the big picture, offering specific examples and suggestions for how to improve. Honest but tactful, Michael was easy to work with, completely professional in reviewing the work and getting back to me in a reasonable period of time. I've worked with other editors and been less satisfied. Michael created a feeling of partnership on the project. I have no doubt my book is better because of our work, and I wouldn't hesitate to use him again
Samantha did a geat job for me. She intuitively understood exactly what I was trying to accomplish with my manuscript and how I was going about it. I wrote two books with Editoro, one fiction, one non-fiction, and what they gave to each project was invaluable. Both were complex works that required not only the standard line editing, but much more importantly (for me) was the extensive content editing that transformed both of the works from being good ideas into being exactly what I had hoped they would become. I freely admit I could never have it done on my own. Oh it was grueling! I highly doubt I could have done it with any ordinary editor. Worth every cent --easily-- but far more importantly it was worth every re-think, every re-write, and every gut-wrenching exercise to dig deeper. Far more than an editor, for me, they were an editorial team, plus coaches. I couldn't rate them higher. I'm working on book #3 and will be sending it to them once it's ready. As a pre-med student, with the ultimate goal of attending medical school, I have taken several exams over the years with hopes of achieving grades that would make me a competitive applicant to medical school. The one thing that was missing from my application was a well written personal statement, which unfortunately science classes do not help prepare you for all that well. I have written lab reports and research articles but a story about my life and journey was beyond my writing abilities. Scott absolutely saved the day. Due to my diminishing knowledge of English grammar, I searched the Internet for an editor to help navigate the murky byways of periods, commas, verb endings and sentence structure. Thankfully I came upon Steve Dulas, a former copy editor for a local county newspaper in the San Francisco Bay area. I couldn't be more pleased with Steves work. Not only does he have a lifetime career in editing and turning out clean copy, but I found he also carefully reads for content and offers creative and sometimes just common sense advice to look at vague or weak areas so that the narrative flows and is coherent. This advice is always given as a kind suggestion; Steve is never demeaning or heavy handed. Steve reviewed half of my book (45,000 words) in a timely two week period, sending me one copy with the changes and yet another copy with creative thoughts in specific places. It really was an outstanding job. I can happily give Steve a five star reference and am certain anyone would be as pleased as I was to find him. I plan to use him again.
