I wanted a teacher that could work with an older adult who not had piano lessons since childhood. After many years, I wanted to challenge myself by getting back into piano and I wanted to bring music back into my life. I was a bit nervous about making the commitment and about the time investment that would be required. I also didn’t know a good teacher so I asked around. Howard’s name came up. He was recommended as a patient and knowledgeable teacher that would do wonders with students. Howard’s approach is not the conventional one that I experienced as a child. He presents many types of approaches and uses lots of tools and techniques to build your skills and understanding of the structure of music. Now, I’m stretching myself to learn, remember and apply these skills and it feels really good! I actually enjoy practicing my piano. Now thats a testimony to Howard’s influence! If you are looking for a teacher that can accommodate your needs, encourage and inspire you, meet Howard and try him out. I’m confident that you will be very pleased with him as a professional and as a teacher.

Our son has been taking Cello lessons from Arlette for 1 1/2 years now and has improved tremendously. He is 14 years old and still looks forward to going to lessons every week. Arlette is really good at finding a student's strengths/likes to keep their interest, as well as finding the areas they need to work on. Highly recommended.

We have been taking piano lessons from Dr. Azi of Playa Music Lessons for almost 2 years now and we absolutely love it! She is very kind, competent and passionate about what she does. It truly makes learning a joy. My daughter, who was previously resistant to learning any kind of musical instrument, now loves her weekly lessons and even looks forward to them. I highly recommend Dr. Azi and her musical studio!

I am so glad to have found Jessica. She is patient, observant, helpful, and so encouraging. I was unsure how online cello lessons would work, but this is the ideal format for me. Jessica is able to observe form and offer gentle suggestions as well as instruction on sound. I highly recommend Jessica and am sure that with her help, even an old, slow returning cellist will soon be enjoying playing complex music. Finally, Jessica has been very flexible with my crazy schedule lately. An awesome person and great instructor.

My 13 year old daughter has been taking lessons from Jenna for over 6 months. She selected and coached her through an audition piece that enabled her to successfully be selected for the advanced symphony group of our local youth orchestra . Jenna is friendly, reliable, and excellent at teaching cello technique and problem solving. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an excellent cello teacher.

My son can't wait for the next semester of his alternative string group (ASG) to start up again! Jacob has taught him so much about being creative and passionate about the violin and music, which has been a liberating complement to years of school orchestra. SPLA is a unique program with the most positive and inspiring teachers possible- so thankful to be a part of it!

I’m an undergraduate student at USC and I’ve been playing cello for more than five years, although I’ve taken lessons for less than two. I’ve worked with Juliette for about seven months, and it has been a worthwhile learning experience. I recommend Juliette as a cello instructor to anyone committed to studying the cello. Juliette works with me for one hour per week, and each lesson, we work on scales, exercises, and pieces. She varies the amount of time we spend on each depending on what she believes I need attention that week. The exercises emphasized strength and flexibility in each hand as well as bow control, shifting, and thumb position. She is very patient with my progress (and the occasional lack of it); there have been times when I struggled to develop the correct technique, rhythm, or concept for a particular piece, passage, or exercise, and she didn’t get frustrated as some other teachers do. When we work on pieces, Juliette provides many valuable insights regarding note articulation, phrasing, bowing, and more. She has helped me on reading rhythms, subdividing, training my ears, and learning music theory. Juliette is a talented performing cellist, so she is busy with her own practicing and performances, but she is flexible and accommodating. Whenever she needs to travel for a performance, she lets me know well ahead of time so we can plan around her schedule as well as mine. There have been many weeks when something unexpected came up in my schedule, and she was able to reschedule our lesson. Her flexibility helps me keep on schedule with my goals in music as well as focus on my other responsibilities when they are overwhelming. Juliette is always on time for my lessons and hasn’t canceled any without notifying me days in advance. Her prices are also reasonable given her level of education. During our lessons, Juliette often reminds me that, “You are your best teacher” because she only sees me once per week, whereas I am with myself whenever I practice. However, given the opportunity to work with an instructor, Juliette is an excellent choice.

My son has been taking music lessons from Ms. Plasencia for 3 years now. He is learning to play the piano and violin. We rent a violin from Ms. Plasencia which makes things very convenient. Jonah has always loved music and he enjoys learning to play new songs. Ms. Plasencia has a wonderful way of working with kids. She is very patient and knows just how far she can push my son but still keep his love of music alive and well! I am so glad we found Ms. Plasencia!

Cello lessons are a great way to anchor and guide your cello practice, regardless of your skill level. From top symphony performers to first-time music students in elementary school, cello lessons correct your flaws and help your strengths shine. The cost of cello lessons will vary, depending on the reputation and experience of your teacher, the length and frequency of your lessons, and where you live. Students who have regularly scheduled lessons and pay in advance often pay less per lesson than drop-in students who schedule lessons as needed. Here are some examples of average cello lesson costs:

  • 30-minute cello lesson: $30, when a minimum of 4 lessons per month are pre-paid.
    • Cost for drop-in lesson: $35.
  • 45-minute cello lesson: $35, when a minimum of 4 lessons per month are pre-paid.
    • Cost for drop-in lesson: $40-$45.
  • 60-minute cello lesson: $40, when a minimum of 4 lessons per month are pre-paid.
    • Cost for drop-in lesson: $50-$55.

How hard is it to learn to play the cello?

Taking cello lessons can be a rewarding experience for students young and old. The rich sound of the cello is well-loved in classical music and is found in all genres of contemporary music from modern folk to rock. As with any instrument, how hard it is to learn to play cello depends on the practice and dedication you put into it. It’s true that some people are naturally more adept at learning instruments than others, but with lessons and a daily commitment, you too can learn to play the cello.

Cello lessons can be a smart investment, especially for new players. Even professional cellists benefit greatly from ongoing training, but for those new to cello it’s especially important for forming a strong foundation for playing. From the proper posture to understanding finger positions, regular cello lessons give you a benchmark to measure your daily practice against. With a professional cello teacher guiding you, the sky’s the limit.
