    Festive Strings

    (14 reviews)

I am better at it. This is what I do and how I make my living. It is not a hobby for me. I work at having hours that accommodate your schedule. I take workshops, read journals and books to be constantly updating and improving my skills. Each student is a unique individual to me and so has unique needs. I have the ability to present things in many different manners to meet each students individual needs. Reasonable teaching manner. Believe lessons should be relaxed and enjoyable and that the student will learn better when the student is comfortable. Every day is different. Each student is unique so it is fun to find the best way to work with each student. I get to watch and hear students progress and improve. I am constantly getting to find new ways to do the same things. The chance to show each student what they can accomplish and seeing their excitement as they achieve new things.

  • Sollohub Music

    (39 reviews)

Simply put, we only hire the best teachers. A school of any kind is little more than its educators so the process of picking our instructors is very thorough and rigorous. Having been in the Music Education business for over 25 years, we are confident that we have the very best instructors to be found anywhere, all under one roof. We've done all the leg-work for you in finding the best teachers anywhere in Denver: highly educated ( college educated with music degrees), experienced( all 10+ yrs as a teacher), and with the best qualities of patience, enthusiasm, and professionalism. At the Sollohub School of Music, we believe in customized instruction, tailoring the lessons according to the students interests and goals. One size does not fit all. We only offer one-on-one instruction, having seen how much more beneficial it is over group lessons. In a group setting, everyone tends to be frustrated, feeling things are moving too quickly or too slowly, as well as not necessarily enjoying the material. Private instruction provides the direction needed to make learning an instrument fun, the attention to ensure the student progresses as quickly as possible, and the personal interaction to accommodate the students interests. We love that we get to be such a big, positive, and life-changing part of peoples lives. Many of our students say it has become the best part of their lives and most anticipated part of their week. Music is a part of the daily experience, for many of us, one that we could not live without. It is a source for personal inspiration and inner reflection, as well as an invaluable social glue that strengthens the bonds between friends and strangers alike. Studying an instrument deepens our musical experience. The more we know about music, the more we hear in music.

You get the fun, exciting hour of your week, explanations that makes concepts easy to understand and apply as well as the drumming results you want. Your first lessons is free! Let's get straight to it; I truly love teaching. Helping others attain the pure satisfaction that comes from musical accomplishment is one of my greatest joys. I strive to create an atmosphere that makes students feel comfortable, so they are able to learn in a healthy way. Music should be fun and not something one feels forced to do, right? My goal is to stimulate creativity and inspire a drive in students to be the best musician they can be. I have taught a wide variety of students in terms of age and musical direction, and love working with you to find what you want to play. With my experience in areas such as orchestral percussion and rock drumming, as well as winning scholarships and attending college, I am confident I can help you do whatever you want in music. Would you like to see some of my playing? Please scroll to the bottom of the page and check out the video tab. Do you want to know what other students and teachers of mine think about me? Here are some testimonials to give you and idea: "Lane is a great teacher because of the way he blends music, technique, and improvising together. Lessons have never been boring, he even makes rudiments fun! If something is difficult, he'll always try a different approach to it, and in a matter of a few minutes, I'm playing it smooth as ever." - Daniel S. "Lane possesses an innate musicality, an extremely disciplined work ethic, and he is capable of centering himself under pressure. This rare combination of traits is a recipe for success in music and in life. You will be hard pressed to find a better mentor than Lane for your musical studies." - Dr.Gregory Beyer Associate Professor and Director of Percussion Studies Northern Illinois University President, Illinois Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society "To me, Lane was an extravagant instructor. He had shared his expertise by helping me develop strategies to work forward and learn rudiments in my music." - Peter C. "Lane is one of the most gifted drummers we have ever employed in the Northern Illinois University School of Theatre and Dance. Lane was accompanist for our modern dance classes and I can honestly say he was as much of a "teacher" in the class as I was. The students absolutely loved having him around, and so did I. I would recommend Lane as an accomplished dance accompanist and musician, and commend him also as a decent, friendly, outgoing person who uses his accessible personality to bring his art to life in others." - Professor Paula Frasz School of Theater and Dance Northern Illinois University I am focused on making students feel comfortable in lessons. I believe this makes students perform at a higher level during lessons, as well as learn and retain information more efficiently. To do this, I make lessons light but focused. When presenting material, I explain in a streamlined fashion, with alternative methods whenever they are struggling. I try to make students smile and know that I'm learning right there with them. As cliche as it sounds, I don't just teach, but I also learn from the student. I can't help but innately find what methods of learning, problem solving, and musical preferences each student has! Here are some of the areas you can expect to learn on drum set and percussion. These areas include, but are not limited to: * Drum set: - Hand and foot technique (beginning to highly advanced) - Limb independence and coordination - Playing your favorite songs - How to sight read a rhythm chart - Rudiments (fundamentals of snare drumming) - Playing fills - Developing a unique and sophisticated musical vocabulary (making ''your" playing style) - How to play in a band - How to play a variety of styles - How to tune your drums quickly - How to set up your drums so they work with your body to be easier to play - How to listen critically and analytically * Percussion: - Hand technique for snare drum and 2-mallet marimba, vibraphone and xylophone - Hand technique for 4-mallet marimba and vibraphone - How to sight read rhythm and melodic material - Play famous orchestral excerpts - How to play accessories such as concert tambourine - How to be a section leader of principal player Do you want to know a little more about my musical history? Here's a bio of my education and accomplishments: I am a drummer and percussionist currently residing in Denver, Colorado. I began studying piano at age 5 with Barbara Rubenstein from DePaul University, as well as congas with esteemed world percussionist Doug Brush. During my high school years, I began studying four-mallet marimba, drum set, and hand drumming with Sherri Dees (former associate professor, Arkansas State University). During this time, I was chosen for the IMEA Honor Band and Orchestra twice, the McHenry County Honor Band; played drum set for five musicals; was the youngest player ever, at age 12, to be chosen for McHenry County Youth Orchestra where I played percussion for three seasons; was the drum captain of the CLC drum line for 2 years; was chosen by Mayor Aaron Shepley of Crystal Lake to perform originally composed drum set and marimba solos in the inaugural "Strikers Benefit Concert;" and was awarded the Outstanding Musician Award for sophomore, junior and senior years, the June Naponelli Memorial Fines Art Scholarship, and the national John Philip Sousa Award for excellence in music. I then went to study percussion at Northern Illinois University under professors Greg Beyer and Robert Chappell. During my time at NIU, I won the orchestral mock auditions for snare drum and two mallets, was chosen to be the featured xylophone soloist for the NIU percussion ensemble and steel band, was the principle percussion in the NIU Philharmonic, and gave a solo percussion recital that was highly attended and received rave reviews. I have also been drumming with bands across the US. I have played all over the Chicagoland area, as well as throughout Wisconsin, Colorado and Arizona. I am currently set to record on the upcoming album with 'The Silent Still' as well as record and release a solo percussion EP during 2013. I offer drum lessons that produce brilliant students!

  • Melody's Music Lessons

    (31 reviews)

Other than music, my academic background is in education and counseling. The combination of skills and expertise from these three fields, along with my easy-going personality, allows people to feel comfortable in the time we spend together. Being at ease and experiencing encouragement in the learning environment is a key part of progressing. Many people come to me who once played an instrument, sang in a choir, or performed in a musical. The music has been missing from their lives and they long to get back to it. A lot of children are very motivated to sing and/or play because they like how they feel when experiencing music. Some students are preparing for an audition and need the support and expertise of a teacher. No matter what the goal, I get to help people pursue their dreams, grow in confidence and ability, and participate in music in new ways. I love that!

Music Lessons of Denver offers beginning to intermediate piano, voice, and music theory lessons for children and adults ages 6 and up. Lessons are taught by an instructor and performer with over 20 years experience, who has been rated one of Thumbtacks best instructors two years in a row. Located in the heart of central Denver, I offer the following: * Lesson rates: $30/30 min., $45/45 min., and $60/hour * Weekly and flexible lesson plans * Occasional/a la carte lessons: $35/half hour Contact Kristine to set up a $10 introductory lesson! I love my work as a musician, singer, and instructor! One of the most rewarding things for me as a teacher is exploring music with my students and fostering their love of it. There is nothing better than when a student really gets a concept and they KNOW they get it. Lessons aren't about pleasing the teacher, but about enjoying what we're doing and integrating musical and technical concepts to get to the next level of understanding and performance.

Thumbtack Spotlight

Ryan Elwood, drummer and drum instructor

(2 reviews)

Ringo Starr, Phil Collins and Rick Allen are just some of the few people who mastered the drums. But they mightve also struggled at first, right? A lot of beginners get frustrated and give up even before they scratch the surface of mastering this universal instrument. And there are some who want to learn but think the drums are too complicated. The probably havent met proficient drummer and experienced instructor Ryan Elwood.

Teaching music is just as much a passion of mine as performing music is. My goal as a teacher is to pass that passion on to the next generation of music lovers. Most of my students come to me as beginners, having never played the drums before. Some of them come with the goal of making it into their school band, others come because they always wanted to learn but never had the opportunity. No matter what their circumstances may be, I customize my instruction to meet their individual needs and make it enjoyable for them.

He offers one-on-one drum instruction customized to help you set and achieve realistic goals. He also helps students improve their knowledge of rhythm, coordination, and music theory. Plus, he gives you the chance to play on real drums, not on an electronic kit.

After being in business for ten years, I have found out what doesn't work, but most importantly I have discovered what does work...The support system that I have in place for my students goes way beyond the practice room. Through our lessons, I have seen my students through talent shows, auditions, school concerts, recitals, and public performances. I believe that this makes a big difference in each student's overall experience.

Now is your chance to improve and hone your talent. Learn and have fun with drum lessons from Ryan Elwood.

  7. #7 Nick's Drum Lessons

    (5 reviews)

    Johnna B.

All I knew is that I wanted to play drums. I spoke to a handful of drum instructors in the Denver area. All of them qualified. One problem. I could not have a kit in my home. This is where Nick went above and beyond before I even met him, and why I chose him over the others. He gave me a couple options, including suggesting a local studio where I could practice by the hour with their drum kits. Problem solved. I came to Nick with absolutely NO musical abilities. It's been 4 months. I can now read/understand drum music moderately, I am working on my second song, and there is nothing more that I look forward to than my weekly session with Nick Spreigl. He is professional, extremely knowledgeable, explains things in simple terms, and has used music that interests me to assist in the learning process. I have learned so much in a very short period of time. These are just a few qualities of this talented musician/instructor. Through him, I have been inspired to explore and accomplish feats that I never thought possible. Thanks Nick!

I got interested in the drums playing Rock Band with my Nephew and started wondering how I'd do at the real thing. I hired Patrick and he got me started down the right path. He was great to work with, and as already mentioned very patient. I also have a full time job and Patrick was always willing to work with me on scheduling times that worked for me! I got to a point where I can work on my own as I have the time, but as I progress I am sure I'll need direction again... I'll call Patrick!
