Mark updated our 3 bathrooms by removing the original carpet flooring and replacing it with ceramic tile. All was done by phone since I live in another city. Mark was very accommodating, efficient, and professional. Pics look great and I now have a great addition to update by house.

Ken is wonderful! He installed laminate wood flooring and ceramic tile in our home. He was on-time, delivered exactly what he promised, communicated with me throughout the process, and cleaned up after he was done. We will definitely hire him again!

I've contracted with Steve twice. Once last summer to install a round, flagstone patio. Not only does Steve pay particular attention to detail, he also gave us some good ideas on how to connect to our existing sidewalk. Secondly, Steve just completed an update of our guest bath with a new porcelain tile floor and shower surround. Beautiful! Steve showed up on time, removed all unused materials and cleaned up afterward!

Arturo responded promptly and professionally to our inquiry. His, insurance, business information and bid were in hand when promised. We hired him to do a 2000 plus square foot ceramic tile install. Not only did he do floors, but walls and cove base. His men were polite, prompt and courteous. Arturo communicated daily with progress of work. He completed the job when he said he would and even did extra things for us without complaint. He is always in a happy mood as are his workers. He was available to us at any time we contacted him. We definitely plan to work with him in the future. His work ethic is incomparable to any other I have experienced in his trade. Look no further, this is the man you want on your job. We have zero complaints, there are not words to express our satisfaction.

I was very happy with Michael deGroen, owner of High Peaks Flooring, who did a floor tile ceramic installation in my laundry room. I liked the way he took his time, making sure the job would come out correctly. He is very professional in his methods. I also like that he posted his estimated charges up front avoiding any unpleasant surprises upon completion of the job. I highly recommend High Peaks Flooring

Kyle and his crew did a good job of replacing carpet/vinyl in my 2 bathrooms and 2 walk-in closets with porcelain tile. Kyle even did a side job of removing an old built-in oven and cook top which involved cutting out a cabinet and countertop. I would hire them again.

Alex and his crew did a great job with our laundry room flooring job. The job was ripping out existing linoleum, and sub flooring, installing new sub floor, new porcelain tile and finish work. Alex's expertise in general contracting gave us great peace of mind, and he gave us many ideas for how to make it even better than we pictured (tile layout, grout selection, etc.). The job was completed within the time frame given, and it all looks excellent. Would definitely hire again.

full master 5-pc bath remodel; entire family room with removal & installation of walls, lighting etc. Sid was an amazing find. I thought his project would be the end of me. He worked with us so easily. His words were "i am here to make sure you get what you want, then I am done." Isn't that what we all need when working on a project? He is a ceramic & glass tile MASTER! We are blessed that we found him.

Chris bid on a job I posted to tile my kitchen back splash. I called him the evening he put the bid in, negotiated the price and scheduled with him to show up the next morning. He arrived 10 minutes early and got to work straightaway. It took him about 4 hours the first day, and he returned the second day (again, a few minutes early) to do the grouting, which took a couple hours more. The tile saw was set up in my front yard and he cleaned up any dust and residue from the cut tiles. After the grouting, there was of course some film on the tiles that needed to be wiped off after several hours, but Chris made me aware of it and let me know how to clean it. The rest of the work area was tidied up and cleaned. I was impressed by the efficiency of the work Chris did. I guess it helped that I had all the materials on site, and he worked with what I had. He is a professional and his work reflects that. The simple white ceramic tiles I chose, along with a glass tile accent strip would show any flaws or uneven spacing, but they look perfect. Chris was courteous and professional in his demeanor and I appreciate the excellent work he did. I will contact him again for any tile work I have.

John Henze completed 3 remodeling projects for me over the past 2 years: family room, home office and, most recently, the master bathroom. In each case the work was of excellent quality and I am extremely pleased with the results. The scope of work included demolition, drywall installation/repair, custom carpentry, installation of doorways, plumbing, construction of a custom shower and ceramic tile installation (floor and walls). As with all remodeling projects, unexpected developments occurred along the way which John handled in a creative and competent manner. Since John is capable of doing all of these things himself, there are no sub-contractors involved. I would recommend him without hesitation to family and friends and would absolutely hire him again for any future projects. He is a superb craftsman.

Brandon installed cork flooring in our kitchen and we love it! From the start of this project, Brandon was prompt with his estimate, the removal of the old ceramic tile, and the installation of the new floor. He completed the difficult task of removing the old tile and installing the new flooring in less than 2 days! His attention to detail was outstanding and we were left with a kitchen that feels like new!!

Colorado Custom Ceramics and Stone(CCCS) did an excellent job on our house! We needed most of our main floor re-tiled, including a gorgeous stacked stone wall in our den; as well as our master bath area and guest bath. The master bath included a brand new tiled shower area with mosaic tiled floor; as well as wrapping our jetted tub with tile. CCCS not only did the job timely, but also went above and beyond in absolutely every aspect. I'm thrilled with how everything turned out and Jeremy is a master tiler. I will certainly call on them again in the future.

The job was to install porcelain tile on four walls (floor to ceiling) of a very crowded bathroom, around a vanity and other accessories already present on the walls. The level of craftsmanship was outstanding, far exceeding our expectations. The price was very reasonable, much more reasonable than many Boulder handymen that I quoted. Overall, the “Five Star Tile” are warm, honest people, who take pride in their work. We highly recommend them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
