Cate did a great job with my resume. Quick and effective especially since I am changing careers and did not have a lot of experience in my new degree. She has made me look much more professional then I could have done left to my own resume writing. Cate also really researched my new profession to see what I would require to look good for a prospective employer. I very much recommend her and will use her talents again.

Alissa has been so wonderful to work with. I've never worked with a life coach and wasn't quite sure what to expect. She quickly put me at ease and I was surprised at how deep and honest our discussions became almost immediately into working together. She knows exactly when and how to push further past what you are saying to get to an underlying feeling, truth or insight. She takes great notes during our calls and sends them over at just the right time in my week, picking out the exact phrases and takeaways that resonated with me. With each call, I leave with a myriad of new insights on my mindsets, behavior and potential path forward - but also a specific focus on 1-2 truly important things. For me, her use the enneagram tool was really insightful and I loved that she brought this perspective to my life. I sought a life coach mainly because I have been feeling stagnated and trapped in my career, and wasn't quite sure how to get out. In a short time, she has helped bring clarity, calmness, focus and optimism across so many parts of my life - just just me career.

I worked with Kris for a few months while undergoing a career transition. I found his insight on discovering one's passion and matching one's skills to employment to be instrumental during the transition. His services were priced fairly and his professionalism and expertise was appreciated during a difficult time. I will be sure to call on them again if I need to.

When I started working with Harlan, it was to assist me in the progression of starting a new business. I knew nothing of coaching, but met him through a friend. He created for me 8 guided visualization as well as some self-work, that helped me see exactly what it is I wanted from my business as well as how to make conscious choices to get there. He provided the tools, support and encouragement necessary to unblock my negative perceptions and energy and eliminate my limiting beliefs. In working towards these business goals I have learned a tremendous amount about myself. I didn't realize that my behavior patterns were affecting both my professional life as well as my personal life. While exploring and committing to make the best of one, I was gifted with improvement in all aspects of my life. So in improving my business and career, I have inadvertently created a more fulfilling and authentic life for myself and my family. I finally feel I am who, and where I should be. It is such an overwhelming and liberating feeling. My business is growing and on track, and I am doing what I love. The personal growth and discoveries have allowed me to experience relationships, both professional and personal, on a whole new enjoyable and enriching level. Harlan provided a safe, non-judging, compassionate, and insightful environment that allowed me to explore, experiment, and discover who I was truly meant to be, and I cannot thank him enough!

I worked with Nina to gain further confidence in the professional/career setting. I had never talked to anyone before, and so I was a little hesitant, and thought I was going to talk to her for the rest of my life. I quickly made a connection with Nina as she was extremely welcoming and friendly. Although I had talked to my family and friends, Nina had given me the tools I needed to change my way of thinking and realize what my success were allowing me to feel more comfortable in my role and giving me the ability to succeed. I started seeing Nina on a bi-weekly basis for the first couple of months (4-6), and then we tapered of to about once a month (3-4), and now I will reach out in case anything drastic happens, and need another sounding board. Overall, I would highly recommend anyone to go in and chat with Nina.

Lauren is the only person I turn to for support and encouragement when I'm having a difficult time. She has helped me through making a career change, getting through a terrible divorce and dealing with the death of my mom. There isn't another person out there I would trust with my heart and soul than Lauren... She has changed my life!

Working with Valentina together or have her work for you is the best experience I ever had hiring a freelancer or temporary service. Nust the approach she uses to get the job done... Personal, Professional and Awesome! Always with great attitude and able to put everyone in the good mood around her. I've never had it that easy with anyone else, just tell her what needs to be do and expectation and that's all, she just takes over without any details being provided and gets it done! Another plus is that she knows everything and has experience in many professions and will always give advice and help or just do it herself. She has helped us as a Business Consultant, HR Consultant, Set guidelines and Company Picies, set strategies, Employee Training on Standards, Safety, Loss Prevention, Product Development, Marketing, Sourcing and Research is her strongest thing you tell her what you wanna know about something or even find someone and she's like a Bad A... Investigator, will find anything or anyone and figure it out where, who, and what happened, Procurement, Orderig, Communication, Presentations, easy going everyone Loves working with her, Event Planner if you are planning an event and you want something unique or unusual or something to be "WOW" she's the one to go to. Besides business professional tasks and duties she will plan and set up all personal events and get it all done! And besides that she can provide desserts, Baker and Professional Cake Decorator, Catering and much more You need a mentor, life skills coach, therapist, counseling, someone to work with kids (even if it's personal or one on one) and life problems and transitions... George MacIlwinen is the Horse Whisperer of young adults struggling to find their footing in their transition to adulthood. Our son had a history of difficult medical problems in childhood that prevented him from achieving developmental milestones and left him as an anxious young adult, depressed, over-medicated and isolated. Over the years we ran through many therapists and programs and our son had grown skeptical of their effectiveness. All that changed when we met George MacIlwinen. George's contributions to our son's life and our family's life are so extensive, it would take pages to catalog them. First and foremost, George understood our son like no one had before, he understood the trauma that our son had experienced and the gaps in his development. Most important, he saw our son's potential and his prospects for a good future. Therapeutically, George is a creative and independent thinker. He has an over-arching philosophy, but within that he is adaptive. For our son he followed a holistic approach incorporating experiential therapy and psychotherapy together with a strong emphasis on healthy life habits including reduced medications, physical fitness and diet. He has also been especially proactive in helping our son develop social skills. Personally, George is calm, empathetic and friendly. He's genuine with an easy smile. He is an excellent listener; he's insightful. George models the healthy behavioral habits that he advocates. He's a natural mentor and educator and has provided invaluable counseling and guidance to our son and to us. George MacIlwinen is an amazing therapist. Meeting him has been one of the single best things that has ever happened to our family. It's a great pleasure to recommend him to you.

Destiny was warm, relatable, open and easy to talk to. She coaxes answers out of you and makes gentle suggestions rather intuitively if you are somewhat unsure of what direction to go in. I threw a handful of chaos at the fan (being overwhelmed with my current phase of life) and she calmly began to objectively sort through it in order to help determine what needed to be prioritized as most important. Dealing with many health conditions, life transitions and with a background in both physical and mental health, I can say that this was a refreshing experience with someone who cares about people AND is adequately prepared to help them make lasting changes.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

        What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

        • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
        • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
        • Defining your career goals
        • Creating a plan for job searching
        • Improving networking strategies and skills
        • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
        • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
        • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

        Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

        • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
        • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
        • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
        • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
        • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
        • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
        • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.
