Very reasonable bid, he arrived on time and worked very quickly and did a good job. I'd happily recommend Francisco Guerrero, and use him again for any roof repairs.

I feel very fortunate that I ran across Steve Petersen and his Mountaintop Construction company when it was determined that I would need a new roof on my house as a result of the large May 8, 2017 hail storm in the Denver, Colo. metro areas. Steve got in touch with me almost immediately after he was referred to me by a referral company called Thumbtack. Steve gave me a more than fair quote on price to replace my roof and had no problems with my waiting a couple of months to have the roof done. Steve helped me all the way through the job, coming out to check out my roof and provide me with his estimate within 24 hrs. I am an 81 yr. old Senior and don't always understand everything and Steve was very patient and thorough in explaining everything so that I would understand it all. He checked my insurance adjuster's estimate and his estimate was within the insurance estimate. He ordered the materials for me and was here up early and monitored the roofing crew's work until the job was done. He relieved me of my anxiety and lack of knowledge on all that had to be done, type of material and how much etc. I could not be happier and feel very lucky and fortunate that I had a man like Steve helping me get the new roof done. If I ever need another roof or other work done that his company does, I will not hesitate to call him again and also will refer anyone I know who is looking for a contractor to call Steve and his company, I have no regrets and am sure anyone else would not have any regrets either. There are good companies, and medium companies and poor companies, Steve's Mountaintop Construction Company happens to be an Excellent and Outstanding company in my mind. One of the best of the best. Brent with Ropa roofing came by to inspect my roof after I had noticed some leaking on my ceiling. I fully expected there to be roof damage causing the leaking and wanted to get quotes from different roofers in the area for replacement. First off, Brent was very professional and knowledgeable. I felt very comfortable with his ability to assess the condition of my roof, lend his expertise in working with my insurance company, and ultimately hiring him for the replacement of my roof. After inspecting my roof, Brent said that the roof is actually in decent condition and would not require replacement. This helped me to trust Brent even more knowing that many contractors will do anything they can just to get the contract. He helped me with some minor repair work and I haven't had a problem since. I know that when its time for me to replace my roof I have someone that I can trust will not only give me a fair price but will get the job done right. With so many crooked contractors out there, it is a breathe of fresh air knowing that I have a trustworthy roofer. Thanks Brent!

AAC is a five star company start to finish! Karl and Logan did a free estimate for replacing the roof and painting my 1941 garage. They explained the process, gave a choice of high quality materials and were there throughout the project. Their roofing and painting crews were highly skilled, hard working and friendly. I’d use them again.

Can't say enough about the thoroughness and quality of work by the team at Earth Saving Solutions Corp. I was referred to Earth Saving Solutions Corp and worked with Chris Hock after the crazy hail storm in June 18th . I had so many roofing companies pressuring us and coming by non-stop. They were very low pressure, upfront about the process, and were even able to get some additional work done that our insurance company missed. Start to finish they were just amazing. There were a couple of small errors but they handled them quickly and professionally. Any questions I had they had actual answers to and the attention to detail made me feel like they wanted to take care of my home as they would their own. Thanks Earth Saving Solutions Corp!

I contacted Thumbtack and requested bids from roofing companies on an insurance claim; 5 company names/contacts were provided. Of those five, only 3 responded and offered to provide an estimate. Of those three, two companies did an estimate from a satellite view. Of the two “satellite-based” estimates, one was $750+ out-of-pocket over what the other one bid. The other bid was completed as a few lines in an informal email, along with “yeah, we can do it – won’t make any money from it but we can always use a good rating.” This was also the company who suggested a ridge vent to replace the turtle vents “as long as you don’t live in a windy area.” The roof was being replaced for wind damage - duh. One contractor came out personally to look at my roof about 1 hour after our phone conversation. Dan Matheny from 1st Priority Roofing sent a written estimate, the company credentials, and the website for the roofing materials that he was proposing. It took about 10 days for the HOA to give their approval, all the while Dan kept in touch with me. By Monday of the following week, the roofing was delivered. By Wednesday afternoon the work was completed to include "code" upgrades that Dan arranged for the insurance to pay for. I am completely satisfied with the performance of 1st Priority Roofing and Sales Manager Dan Matheny. The new roof is beautiful and was zero headache to have done. I would re-use 1st Priority without hesitation and will recommend them in the future.

It was excellent working with Paul at Golden Construction. He has roofed my house twice after two different hail storms. His crew is very respectful, quick & clean. The work was perfect. I even recommended him to my parents, brother & cousins who all used his services. Paul made the whole process easy as he coordinated directly with my insurance company. He is very professional, polite & energetic. He is extremely quick and affordable. His knowledge of roofing & construction in general is impressive to say the least. Putting my construction needs in his hands was certainly the best decision. I would highly recommend Golden Construction.

Replacing anything in your home that is as major as a roof is a big deal. The homeowner's experience will depend completely on the contractor. Mountain Trail was great to work with every step of the way. From the initial estimate to the final inspection, this company responded to all questions, and showed up when they said they would. Would gladly work with them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
