Im very pleased with all the work done by lemar! He made sure my husband and I's reception was perfect for us! We hired him to do our wedding pictures and video as well. We had also revealed our pregnancy to the family and lemar was able to capture every perfect moment. We will be hiring him again when our baby shower comes around.

Tom We can't thank you enough for recording our wedding. We appreciate the time you took prior to our nontraditional event to understand our needs and guide us through the process. You told us exactly what we needed to prepare and what we needed to have for you. Your setup was unintrusive and we appreciate you partnering with the other vendors and guests to get exactly what we needed. This was a quick turn around in a unique setting. Thank you again Meredith & Sarah

Planning a wedding has to be one of the most stressful things to do. As Father of the Bride I was responsible for finding a good videographer, and BOY DID I!! I can't say enough about Jeff! From my initial inquiry, in which he replied instantly with information, samples, and package pricing, to the final updates of the Ceremony, Reception & Highlights videos. Jeff held our date for us and was no pressure. He is a great guy, a master at his craft and did an awesome job editing our final videos. If you want to cut your worries and just enjoy the show, hire JeffTheVideoGuy to do you wedding. It is so "Big" that the newlyweds, family & friends will be able to relive the special wedding day celebration for years to come...Thanks to JeffTheVideoGuy!!

Mountain event services is the bees knees. After video chatting with them before the wedding we knew we made the right choice. We wanted our wedding to have a 50's vibe. We weren't able to pick enough music and Matt our dj did an amazing job picking out more music to make our day special. My mother and my sister added some activities along the way and he was able to change things up so everything ran smoothly. He even had extra equipment ready when we had to switch things up at the ceremony. He was professional and not over bearing/cheesy (which what I was most scared of) his wife Cassidy was our photo booth attendant. She was adorable. She never once got overwhelmed and she smiled and joked about everyone's pictures with them. The props they brought were perfect and they even had left over supplies for a scrap book for us. I'm so happy about that because I love it and I love there picture they put in there too. Now I'll never forget who helped us achieve the perfect wedding for us. Thank you Matt and Cassidy.

We found Sebastian to be both talented at finding the artful shot and skilled with his camera even in the small space he had to work with. He documented our Denver wedding with gusto! We definitely feel like we got the right photographer for the evening. He was absolutely seamless and unobtrusive. There were no crazy flashes going off in our faces, yet he was really good at getting the right exposure. He was reliable and punctual. Given the chance, we would work with him again. Thanks, Sebastian!

We hired Sky High Videography for our wedding at Dunafon Castle in June 2015 and let me tell you, you cannot go wrong with Sky High Videography!! We just received our wedding videos and they are amazing! Bill is incredible at capturing every important moment! The videos are everything we wanted and more!! Bill spent a lot of time talking with my husband about our vision for the videos and he did not disappoint!! I highly recommend the aerial footage, it adds so much to see our venue from the sky!! The couple interviews were also great because we got to hear what the other was thinking prior to the ceremony, it is something I will always cherish!! Bill and Jane, thank you so much for creating something so beautiful that we will be able to enjoy forever!! I highly recommend Sky High Videography!! They are worth every penny!!!

Colin did an outstanding job on my concert footage. He also went the extra mile to see the venue beforehand, and was very accommodating with my editing requests throughout the entire project. On top of all that, we negotiated a very fair price. I would recommend Two Tigers Productions to anyone looking for a professional videography.

Everyone always told me the one thing to never skimp on in my wedding was the photography. When my husband and I found "Head above Heart," we instantly fell in love with the beautiful colors and the dramatic settings in his work. He was knowledgable, friendly, and energetic the day of the wedding. Unlike most photographers who just get everyone to pose and look stiff, Kevin captured everyone in their own element, happy and it seemed as if he wasn't a photographer, but rather a member of our family. I would highly recommend him to anyone and he is at the top of my list to be used again. His adequate pricing, friendly demeanor, and overall expertise make him the best photographer I have seen in quite a while.

We asked Aaron to take photos of our newborn Lilyana and couldn' t have been happier! He was very patient and professional while capturing our baby's personality. She made it a bit of a challenge which thankfully don't show in the pictures! I've seen Aaron do wedding photography and videography too and he is always enjoying himself which set his subjects at ease.

We loved working with Brian for our wedding video! We were hesitant to even do a video, we did not think we would want one, but we are so glad that we decided to!!! The videos came out beautifully and our family and friends have already enjoyed watching them. Brian was helpful and let us choose our own music and did a great job putting everything together, great work!

Ridge did beautiful work with editing and putting together the wedding story on film. We wouldn’t change a thing! During the wedding ceremony and reception we barely knew he was there, but he got great footage. We would recommend him to our friends and family for their events!

Dan filmed the grand opening of our church. He did a spectacular job. He was timely, efficient, very professional, and the end product was unbelievable. Any time we have a videography need, we will be contacting Dan. In fact, we've already referenced a few of our friends to work with him. He's that good!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

      • Package 1: $1,400
        • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
        • Two cameras with audio equipment.
        • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
        • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
      • Package 2: $1,800
        • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
