Peter has been tutoring my 17yr son. My son is very comfortable with Peter and has already (after four sessions) strengthened his math skills. My son has some learning difficulties and math, especially has been challenging for him. Peter is not only tutoring but, actually teaching my son new skills. My son has always had a very negative relationship with math but, now it seems he is finally breaking through his fear and embracing learning. We are thankful we found such an awesome teacher/tutor. Thanks Peter!
Eve was an outstanding tutor for the ISEE. We hired her with just 6 weeks to go until the test - we had been using a New Haven-based tutoring company that just was not doing the job - in that very short period of time Eve managed to coach our daughter from the middle of the pack (ISEE steniles 4 and 5) toward the top (stiles 6 and 7). Plus she was very flexible about scheduling and was amenable to meeting our daughter in New Haven. We only wish we'd enlisted her sooner! We will definitely seek her assistance for our next set of test preps!
John's strategies and guidance boosted my confidence and helped me remain calm while taking the SAT. When I was unsure about certain Reading and Math questions, John went out of his way to explain how to apply the strategies to solve harder problem
Paul was an excellent Spanish tutor for myself and my husband as we prepared for a trip to Spain. He's patient and very sweet. We highly recommend him!
Doug tutored my eight year-old daughter. He covered reading, writing and math with her and made it fun and instructive at the same time. Doug inspired our daughter to have confidence in her ideas and to want to participate more in class. He has a lovely way about him that enabled him to connect with our daughter. He added an extra element to our daughter's education that we felt was missing from her classroom experience.
We worked with Kat for our daughters both on math skills as well as English skills. She is nothing short of outstanding. She understands the learning process, and she understands kids. The results were clear and successful. We now have successful (honor roll) and independent students, thanks to the foundation that Kat lay for them. I recommend her without hesitation, and send her our many thanks.
We are a few sessions in and my daughter is very happy with the help she is getting from Dave. Getting started with Dave was a breeze. He is very responsive and accommodated our requests as to place and time for the sessions. It is clear that Dave is excited about teaching and he is very good with kids.
Excellent tutor. Well prepared for instruction and individualizes approach to meet student needs.
Bill helped to unlock the puzzle of the SAT exam for my daughter. She learned so much in such a short time and felt confident both walking into the test and walking out. Thank you!

In May of 2012, I obtained my M.A. in Secondary English Education, prior to that I earned a B.A. in Political Science, both from Quinnipiac University. Furthermore, I currently possess Connecticuts Initial Educator Certificate, endorsement code 015 (English, grades 7-12). My tenure as an educator thus far, in particular my full-time position at Danbury High, has allowed me direct interaction with diverse populations of students. This has helped to broaden my horizons, fostering skills both in and out of the classroom, and, furthermore, has helped me actualize my strengths as a teacher. I excel in formulating rapport with my students, consequently motivating them to strive for excellence within, and beyond, the classroom walls. As an individual with ADHD, I empathize with special needs students, and I have become particularly adept at designing curriculum, syllabi, and daily lessons that are meticulous in terms of differentiated instruction. Technology is a particularly useful modality in the modification of lessons for vast and varied needs of pupils. Being of a generation weaned on computers, I am technologically savvy. I frequently incorporate multimedia within my classroom; the result of which is creative lessons that excite and engage students. Inarguably, technology is one of my most powerful tools for conveying ELA content knowledge, but it is not the only one in my arsenal. My undergraduate studies in Political Science provided me with a strong civics background. This, when fused with my passion for the English language, allows me to cross the traditional subject borders. My myriad of content knowledge is an asset, for it aids me in the creation of unique interdisciplinary units. ID teaching, in todays society, is pragmatic because it prepares students for life after school; there, you cant leave one subject behind in order to work on another. Being a teacher is about getting students ready for the rest of their lives, and in the real world, everything is connected. Understanding this, I work tirelessly to ensure that each and every one of my students succeeds, and matures into the best person he or she can possibly be.

My work as a tutor stands out because of the diversity of areas I have tutored in both math and science. On my Wyzant page, I am listed as being able to tutor 42 different subject areas.
My goal is to create a hands on, but laid back teaching environment for my students in which we can work together to figure out exactly what's holding them back in their given subject. I believe in all of my students and offer unrelenting support, but I also challenge them to push their own boundaries and put in the necessary time to grow.
