We hired Gonzo for our first wedding dance. The lessons are fun and we are learning so much more than we thought we would. He makes me want to continue to take dance classes after the wedding!

In the midst of late-stage wedding planning, the thought came out of nowhere that it might be nice to take dance lessons. I brought this up to my fiancé and his immediate reaction was negative. We were already juggling too many vendors and responsibilities, he said. Where would we find the time, he asked. I reached out to Uttara anyway and scheduled a trial first class. We met her and immediately felt at ease. She asked us what song we had in mind, and when we played it for her (it's very different than the normal first dance fare) she thought about it for a second, remarked that it was different, then told us she knew exactly what kind of dance would go with it. And off we went! At the end of the first class, my fiancé was much more optimistic and we agreed to do the five class package. After the first few classes, we couldn't wait for our next class. Neither of us had any dancing experience but Uttara was always patient with us and never laughed at our clumsy mistakes. Her upbeat and postive energy went a long way to helping us learn, and she made every class so much fun! When it came time to pull off our big dance at our wedding, we somehow pulled it off and no one could believe what we had done! My mom kept clapping her cheeks and saying it was like DWTS (it was not) and the venue coordinator told us that in her ten years there, we were the first couple to do something like that. My friends' eyes were bugging out of their heads! It was so worth it, and a memory that we will cherish for the rest of our lives, and we owe it all to Uttara!

My fiance and I came in for beginner dance classes with Priti for our wedding ceremony. We both enjoy music but had zero formal dancing experience, so this was naturally a bit out there for us. Right off the bat, Priti was really great at understanding our vision and what we we're looking for in our first dance. She was able to teach us basics around ramba, salsa, and swing, which we're all incorporated into our dance routine. As beginners, learning the basics prior to learning different routine executions made putting everything together much easier in the grand scheme of things. Each lesson, she worked with us on improvements and made sure to adjust the dance accordingly based on our feedback/hesitations across particular areas. Overall, it was a very calming experience that left us very well prepared for our wedding. We are very happy with the service we received from Priti and received amazing feedback from our friends and family on our performance. We would 100% recommend her for anyone looking to work with someone reassuring, patient, and very knowledgeable in her craft. Thanks Priti!!

I’ve never had any knowledge/experience in dance before I took the class with All About Dancing. Ms. Kinnunen has taken time to give me a basic understanding of different types of dance and helped me to pick one that I like/meets my needs the most. I’ve been learning Salsa with her and I would greatly recommend my friends or anyone who are passionate about dance.

We had a wonderful first Ballroom dance class with Ms. White. Her friendly and outgoing personally allow for her to build and immediate rapport with her students. She really seems to enjoy meeting new students. We look forward to the next session.

I've been taking classes with Helena for about a year and she's been awesome. She understands how her students learn best and adapts her approach to fit them. I especially love the expressions she comes up with to explain moves or concepts. She cares about her students and her passion for dance shows. Highly recommend!

Gabriel Thomas has been a major asset to the after school program I run. He is considerate of all skill levels and encourages everyone to be the best they can. He has helped many of my students find confidence. Gabe is super talented and down to earth which makes everyone learning & working with him feel at ease. My students and I love Gabe and what he has done for the program. Professionally he is always on point with punctuality, flexibility, and communication. I've been taking ballroom lessons with Ray for about 6 years. He's a fabulous instructor. Watching him dance is like viewing living art. In addition to time spent in class, he and some of his students gather to practice a couple of nights a month at a local ballroom, where he takes the time to dance with and coach his students. Dance students of all levels would benefit from his instruction.

I would highly recommend Baltimore Martial Arts Academy for many reasons and from a couple different view points. As a student - Gary Berger and his staff are experts instructors not only in martial arts but fitness of both mind and body. I have been in the military for 21 years, have lived all over the world and have never seen a gym with so many different courses of instruction. Such a wide array and blending of talent is hard to find and almost impossible in a single school. Patient and professional - I have found these instructors to look at the individual and tailor classes to student needs and goals. The plethora of instructors is simply amazing. I have 3 Aikido instructors my son has 5 different jujitsu instructors and my daughter has 2 different kickboxing instructors - getting all of there collective strengths and experiences - class never gets boring or routine.  As a father - I have two teenagers attending Baltimore Martial Arts Academy and can not imagine a better environment for an extracurricular activity. My Son has attained his black belt in mixed martial arts and is working on belts in both judo and straight jujitsu. He is on the competition team and has competed nationally in numerous grappling and judo competitions - qualifying this year for the judo junior nationals this summer. It has been a great outlet for teenage aggression for both kids and has shown them a positive way to harness energy that would be otherwise wasted. His skills will serve him well in high school as he plays football and wrestles. My Daughter is working on a belt in mixed martial arts and taking kickboxing classes. Not the competitor her brother is I have found the discipline and fitness she is learning will carry on through her entire life. As a father it is good to know that my daughter can defend herself and walks with a confidence that she may otherwise have not found. My children are the most important thing in my life and my greatest legacy - I feel blessed to have found this gym with such a large group of both male and female role models to help me raise my children and instill the values we all find so lacking in the world today. It is refreshing to find a place where integrity, honor, respect and discipline are not only preached but taught, practiced and expected. All in all I was lucky or destined to find Baltimore Martial Arts Academy. I have found a family that cares about me and my families well being. I hope all of you are as lucky. Justin D. Pyle

I am not keen on exercise, but I know how importnat it is, so I look for activities I can truly enjoy so that I'll stick with it. After a demo class on Middle East dancing (belly dancing to most of us), I decided this was for me! Mary made the classes a lot of fun. There was no pressure on those of us who were not the most coordinated or graceful dancers. Everyone was supportive and encouraged others when they did something well. We all got the colorful scarves with metal dangles and felt totally ready for the sultan's harem! The music was exotic and came from many countries, and that was a nice bonus I had not really considered. Best of all, this was great exercise. I was expecting to exercise the tummy muscles, and it did not surprise me that my legs also got workout, but I did not expect to feel the exercise in my arms. It is a full-body workout. I have a broken ankle right now and am not doing ANY exercise, but I miss my dance class and am eager to get back. I can't remember ever feeling that way about an exercise class!

Olivia’s work quality and ethics are stellar. She is professionally trained in the areas of vocal performance, musical theatre and dance. Olivia is complimented by her ease in working well with others, is a bearer of high standards, is well liked by her colleagues and students, and has a natural ability to transform these art-forms into an experience that is believable, memorable and well done. Olivia brings value and recognition to each of her performances and students are eager to follow her careful lead and tutelage. Olivia demonstrates patience when working with her students and is genuine in her encouragement to have them do their best. She establishes high expectations for appropriate student behavior and for showing respect for one another in her classes. This is a hallmark of her teaching style. Olivia is complimentary for both individual and group effort and doesn’t shy away from insisting on repeated practice when working on mastery of new skills, executing techniques and demonstrating showmanship. Olivia has performed on stages nation-wide, in Western Europe, Asia and Canada. Whether on stage or in a dance studio, the great take-away is that everyone leaves having benefited; for being part of a job well done, an enjoyable experience, and most importantly, a smile.

I have been taking ballet lessons with Imani for the past month, and I could not be happier with the instruction that she has given me. Her attention to detail is incredible, and she is always 100% committed to perfecting my technique. She is genuinely interested in helping her students, and she even creates detailed lesson plans specific to her students. She is very personable and introduces new ballet movements and terminology in a fun and encouraging way. Also, my flexibility has greatly improved within only one month as a result of her effective conditioning that she incorporates into her lessons. I highly recommend Imani as a dance teacher!

I have performed with Zhywa on stage and worked with her in class for 4 years. She is a talented Bellydancer with knowledge of several dance styles including Egyptian and Turkish. She understands stage craft including costuming and performance placement and stylization. Her choreography is imaginative and her combinations are luscious and beautiful. She has a sweet personality and she will work hard to make sure her students are successful.

          About

I have been teaching and performing salsa for over 7 years. My greatest reward as an instructor are my students comments and feedback, as well as the smiles on their faces during and after my classes. I offer group and private lessons, as well as free online instructional videos on YouTube. My viewers love these videos, and I constantly get fantastic comments and requests. There is nothing better than teaching what you love, and seeing people learn and dance. My classes are all levels covering beginner as well as intermediate. We start with a warm up, and then we learn a partnering routine, which we practice. We also have social dances and field trips. So, all together, my students and I are like one big family, and we love to hang out together.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do dance lessons cost?

Adults who want to learn to dance, whether to prepare for a wedding or to meet new people, often enjoy taking dance lessons from an experienced dance instructor. Instructors may offer classes one-on-one to individual students or couples, or to small groups. The national average cost for a dance instructor ranges from $30 to $50. Some studios offer a discounted introductory lessons or group lessons, as well as package deals that are more affordable than paying for individual lessons. Some dance instructors will travel to the student’s home, which usually costs more, while others hold small-group sessions in their studios. If you choose a small-group class, expect to pay less than for individual dance lessons.
