I am being tutored in Spanish from Julissa. My sessions have been educational and fun. Julissa builds the curriculum around the students strengths. Although my tutoring session is 1 hour, she spends her own time at home preparing for my lessons. Julissa is professional and punctual and I am extremely proud to have her as my tutor.

Dane tutored me for a math placement exam and then in Calculus (college level), and he was excellent in both respects. He is incredibly accommodating when it comes to scheduling, going so far as to schedule last minute/late night sessions if needed before important exams, something I was extremely grateful for since I have a very hectic work schedule outside of school. Dane is super easy to get in touch with, and per my request was willing to gently pester me about staying on top of my work so I wouldn't get behind. He does his homework too, reviewing tough subjects that he knew were coming up in my class so that he was always ready for the difficulties I encountered. Dane is kind, funny, and he genuinely cares about the success of his students. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Brandon comes on time and prepared. My daughter is enthused and engaged with every lesson, and he leaves lesson extensions for her to continue exploring on her own. I love how he has taught her to organize her thoughts, processes and findings, and how he emphasizes the importance of communicating and explaining everything to others.

Dany was an outstanding choice! She really took her time to personalize her presentation to fit the style of my school. Prior to the workshop she read the teacher handbook and did research about our school so that her lessons were insync with our philosophy. Dany instantly connected with my team which in turn made it an hour worth while for all who were interested!! I would definitely recommend Imagine with Dany and I will be inviting her back to Creme de la Creme. -Kelly Bartolo, Executive Director

Returned to college and had to re-take College Algebra. I mistakenly took a self guided course and was spending over 25 hours per week on the homework. I hired Allen to to tutor me and now only spend 1-2 hours outside of our lessons (I see him 1-2 times per week). He is EXCELLENT, patient, trustworthy and very good at helping me understand my assignments. I would have dropped the course if not for him. I would not hesitate in recommending his services!

From the start Marian has been nothing but sweet and helpful. She listened to all of my concerns and worked hard to find a tutor to match my daughters personality. And I have to say we have been working with our tutor Kourtney for 2 months now and we couldn't 've happier. She's so kind and fun. Our daughter loves her. And more importantly I see an improvement in my daughter. She's building a confidence that she did not have before. I'm excited to see how much she will improve in school with the help of her tutor over the next couple months. If you are searching for a tutor for your child, Club Z is the way to go .

Steven Greene tutors our son, who is a junior in high school. His teaching style, especially in chemistry and physics, helped our son grasp the information with ease. We also have Steven going over SAT strategies to prepare for the upcoming test. From a parent's point of view, Steven is very professional, can relate to our son, always available by phone or email, if needed, and after each session, updates us with what material he went over and the progress our son is making.

I have never come across a teacher who is as willing and as dedicated as Mrs Regis . The way she makes it her duty to assist each of her students is unbelievable. She recognizes your strengths and uses them to help you further improve, and also helps to improve on your weaknesses. She structures her lessons in such a way that would suit the learning capabilities of all her students. What I admire best is that she is genuinely concerned about the well being of her students, and would continue mentoring them even if she no longer teaches them. Excellent teacher, and incredible human being.

Mr. Miller has been working with my daughter with her reading disability for over a year now and she just had her best report card ever. He often discussed with me and my daughter what she is doing in school to make sure they are on the same page. She enjoys going to tutoring, as much as a 12 year old can!. He's friendly, easy to talk to, easy to schedule sessions with. I am so glad we made the decision to use him as her tutor and will continue to use him as long as she needs additional help.

I had the pleasure of having Arielle as my student teacher in first grade this school year. Arielle was an excellent teacher and role model for the students. She worked very hard and had an good relationship with the children. The children related well with Arielle and enjoyed her lessons. Arielle was aware of all the students and what each student needed to be successful. I would recommend Arielle as an educator and teacher in any district.

Cheryl tutored my dyslexic daughter (she also has ADD) when she was a senior in high school in AP Calculus after she was certainly failing the course. My daughter received little to no help from her teacher and her National Honor Society tutor was disinterested and ineffectual. With Cheryl's guidance my daughter came out of the course with a C+ and received a 3 on the AP exam allowing her to receive college credit. Cheryl exhibited patience and kindness. We cannot give her a high enough rating.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

      • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
      • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
      • National average cost for a geometry home tutor: $50-$60 per hour.
      • National average cost for a math home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
      • National average cost for reading and writing home tutor: $40-$60 per hour.
      • National average cost for an SAT home tutor: $70 per hour.
      • National average cost for an ACT home tutor: $70-$100 per hour.
