Booksmart of Florida, LLC

Jessica Meyer is my hero! She was exactly the professional I needed when I needed one most. I am thrilled to announce she is my new accountant. She went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure a crucial deadline was met even though I came to her at the last minute when I couldn't rely on my former CPA’s office. I got behind on my bookkeeping after our move last year and so my books weren’t ready as the deadline approached. I was staring at a huge mountain to climb, a seemingly impossible deadline and I got zero sympathies from my CPA’s office. So, I frantically looked for a tax consultant online and was thrilled to find Jessica of Booksmart on Thumbtack in a matter of minutes. She kept me sane during a very anxious process and empowered me to keep going when I felt unequal to the task. She made me feel as though I was the most important client in the world! To my former CPAs I was just a number (pardon the pun!) and a meaningless and unappreciated one at that. Good riddance! Tax preparation is never fun, but thanks to Jessica's support and guidance, I was thrilled with our accomplishment and I could not be happier with the outcome. Jessica demonstrated knowledge and expertise with infinite patience and respect. How refreshing! She was able to e-file my personal and corporate returns with time to spare. Never even having met her, she treated me as a cherished friend. Everyone should feel as great about their accountant as I feel about Jessica. If you’re not thrilled with your accountant for any reason or you feel as though you’re being over-charged, remember, there are options. Booksmart may be the answer for you, too. Thank you, Jessica. And thank you, Thumbtack for helping me find her so quickly. With gratitude, Norayda – NZoneFL.com

Reed's Tax Service LLC

I have known Robin Reed professionally four years and the one aspect that truly stands out concerning Ms. Reed is her ability to answer any question you may have regarding taxes and tax preparation itself. Ms. Reed has been preparing my taxes since our first meeting and at this point, because of her professionalism and trustworthiness, there is no one I would have file my taxes but her.

The Profit Doctors

For well over a decade, I have known and engaged in business activities w/ Susan Anthony. She is prodigious and intense about her tax preparation work for her many clients, including myself. It was a good day when she began handling my personal and business taxes. Many have been the beneficiaries of her strong advocacy both for business clients, as well as her personal relationships and her demonstrated loyalty to both are laudable. Additionally, she enjoys both an impressive employment and personal resume', background and forward thinking. She exceeds belief in astounding achievements going far beyond most high achievers. She can be doggedly determined and fierce in her efforts towards those in need or less fortunate. Her greatness of character speaks to her power to inspire and those fortunate enough to be considered her friend or a business partner enjoy an awesome gift.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who can file my taxes?

Any individual with a preparer tax identification number (PTIN) is eligible to file your income taxes on your behalf. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean they will be the best candidate to provide the help you need with your income tax preparation. The IRS explains that CPAs, attorneys and enrolled agents are all allowed to legally represent their clients before the IRS. They have a more thorough understanding of tax code than an individual operating solely with a PTIN or an Annual Filing Season Program participant who provides their services on a volunteer basis. Consider the complexity of your tax return and what level of expertise you’ll require. Before entrusting someone with your private financial and personal information, do some research on their qualifications. The IRS has a searchable database where you can verify the background and credentials of your income tax preparation professional. Once you have selected someone, ask about their service fees and confirm their availability. Then provide them with all the documentation they require, including W-2s, 1099s and more. Always ask to review the paperwork before it is submitted, and never sign a blank tax return.

How much does it cost to get taxes done?

Hiring a professional to help with income tax preparation can be priceless. Pro help can mean no mistakes and a maximized tax return. The cost to get your income taxes done depends on the professional you hire. Tax attorneys or in-demand CPAs will often have the highest rates for their services. Next in the pricing tier are enrolled agents, who will usually have higher rates than individuals solely working with a preparer tax identification number (PTIN). Nationally, the average cost of income tax preparation ranges from $150 to $190. Income tax preparation prices can also vary based on where you live and the complexity of your tax returns. Here are some examples of average income tax preparation prices from an enrolled agent:

  • Taxpayers filing only a W-2 tax form: $50.
  • Taxpayers filing a W-2 along with additional tax forms such 1099-INT and 1098-E: $150.
  • Taxpayers with several tax forms and one or two additional considerations such as a rental property, investment transactions, K-1 income, 1099-MISC or a simple small business: $225.
  • Taxpayers with multiple activities (rentals, K-1 income, small business, etc.), several stock transactions and more: $395.

Nationally, the average hourly rate nationally for a tax prep professional ranges between $150 and $450.
