I would like to thank Mr. Rod Guy and his roofing team for an outstanding job they did for me today. These men really understood my needs and concerns about getting my roof fixed as soon as possible. He came out to my residence yesterday and provided me with a free estimate. I hired him shortly thereafter, without hesitation, he was able to fit me into his busy schedule to do the repairs to my roof. In less than 20 hours They were at my residence on time as promised, my door bell rang right on time. Within minutes of arrival, they were on the roof working. They provided so much more to me without charging any extra fees. The man and his team is very honest, hardworking and very professional. I would hire and or refer them to my family and friends at anytime. Keep up the GREAT WORK! Curtis Pembroke Pines, FL Victoria Lakes estates

PAUL ANDERSON & HIS CREW DID AN EXCELLENT JOB ON MY POOL DECK FLAT ROOF. THEY DID A PARTICULARLY MARVELOUS JOB ON CLEANUP. THE ROOF WAS A LOT WORSE THAN ANTICIPATED BUT PAUL WAS UP TO THE TASK. HE EVEN SENT SOMEONE BACK TO REPLACE MY TWO ROWS OF TILE THAT NEEDED TO BE REMOVED. I I DEFINITELY WOULD RECOMMEND HIM FOR HIS INTEGRITY & ATTENTION TO DETAIL.

Pernell was very professional business man from the time we started to communicate about our project, to the finishing moments. I truly appreciated it. He came, evaluated our problem (we had a leaking flat roof, stuff that many roofers don't event want to touch). He inspected the roof, and presented us with three different choices how to approach it. Once we picked the option most financially and practically suited for us, he showed up on time with his crew, they completed the project in few hours, tested the leak (well, we will see 100% when we get the heavy FL rains), even installed leaf protections to my gutters on top of the roof repair. Very pleasant to deal with, they cleaned up after themselves, and assured us to contact them if any problem occurs. Will definitely recommend or use again myself!

It's nice to see there are still professional, honest companies still out there. The roof was done on time as promised. Tearing down the old roof was extremely messy, but when they finished, there was nothing out of place, and it looked like they'd never been there. I definitely recommend them for any roofing job. Thanks John

We were experiencing leaks from our roof of my commercial building in Hollywood when there was heavy rain. I contracted Greg and his Group 5 staff to repair the roof. I chose Greg because he provided the best quote for the job along with a detailed scope of work with copies of his GC license and insurance. The job took a few weeks to complete and we were in contact throughout and Greg explained the work that was going on in detail. After the job was done I was provided with pictures of the roof before and after the job. I am very pleased. I was impressed with Greg's professionalism, experience and hands on approach to the job. I recommend Greg and Group5 for anyone looking to do roof repair. I would not hesitate to call on him again if needed.

My Thumbtack request specifically said I needed somebody to put insulation in my flat roof. The guy showed up thinking I had a leak in my roof. My roof is fine. I told him I requested insulation. He said they don't do that. What good is Thumbtack if they don't read your request? They want the business so bad they reply and send guys over without looking a it.

Ms. Victoria was very professional and her commitment to excellent service satisfaction goes beyond ourstanding. She is not a General Contractor but a General Contractor Referer. I was not to sure if I wanted to take the chance but went ahead and gave her the opportunity to refer me a Roofing General Contractor and I must say that she work with professionals dedicated, on time committed company. She didn't give me a quote through thumbtack because she felt interpersonal communication is the best way to go and she was right. Me and my husband was able to ask all the questions we wanted. I will be contacting Victoria for my next project. Happy New Year Victoria and Mr. Vargas from the Roofing Company.

I represent a condominium association and interviewed four contractors for major repairs to our roof. We went with Spartan Roofing and Construction and received a first class job and excellent value for money spent. The lead contractor on this job was Ignacio Escardon and he could not have been more professional, helpful, or conscientious. He was on site managing and working with trained workers during the entire job. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for quality roofing, or any construction project. As a woman in South Florida, you kind of get use to people or companies trying to take advantage of you. This was absolutely not the case with HK! My roof got very damaged with Irma and they came in full force to take care of this project for me. The price was fair and the job was done in an incredible short time. I didn't know the first thing about the permits at the city, well, they took care of that too! I am very satisfied with HK services and I will recommended them to all my friends and family!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
