Markanthony of Ultimate Solutions gave me a quote for the installation of 8 security cameras in my home, including all of the wiring and the DVR installation in about 45 minutes. This was great! He came to my home to check on the gear and the areas that I wanted to be covered. Once we were happy with the cameras location, he came back and worked non-stop until the cameras were installed. He then programed the DVR to record at maximum resolution and programed our two iPhones and two iPads for remote viewing. I also asked him to replace three old motion lights on the outside of the house and without any questions he went to the store, bought them and installed them. The final cost for his services was very reasonable. Peace of mind was Free! I will recommend Mr. Markanthony Gonzalez of Ultimate Solutions for any jobs that you might have in your home or office. Thank you! Herberto J. Velez, Winter Park, Florida

Carl is exactly the type of handyman you hope for when you use someone you don't know. Fairly priced, dependable, trustworthy and timely. I'd recommend him to anyone needing those qualities in getting work done. He did multiple small jobs for me on my rental house.

Multiservice Enterprise came to my rescue. New to the state and a new home in need of handyman services. Ennio arrived as planned and went to work hanging drapery rods in 3 bedroom and the living room. He hung art work through out the house to my specification and lowered a dining room light fixture that was previously hung too high. All work areas left clean and debris removed. My house is now a home. I will be hiring Multiservice again and recommending this company to all my friends and neighbors. Thank you again Ennio.

I hired another "handyman" and it was a mistake. I had to hire Robert to come in and undo all the previous guy had done and redo it correctly. Make sure you hire a licensed professional. He has fixed the first issue and is coming back today to snake the drain and fix a clogged drain that I had no idea I had (and that was causing part of the problem).

Miguel was great! He called me on Sunday when I made the request and showed up for the job Monday morning at 8:00. He did many different "handyman" jobs for me. I was so impressed he is coming to another property to work on Wednesday!

I was looking for a handyman for a small project and 360 Total Clean was the first to respond even though it was after business hours. Their office coordinator, Andrew, was extremely professional as was the tech that they sent to the property. He did fantastic job. I also had the opportunity to speak with the owner, Wayne. It's very rare these days to come across a small business owner that cares about its customers. Their 5 star reviews are spot on! I am extremely pleased with 360 Total Clean and would not hesitate to use them again in the future!

This was my first experience with a handyman I liked working with! And I plan to save his number for the future. José was friendly and professional. He brought everything he needed, did not make a mess while working and cleaned up after himself. He listened to exactly what I wanted done which was a fan installation, pantry shelves added to a closet, and hanging some large art/mirrors. His pricing was extremely reasonable and I ended up wanting to give him an extra 50% tip because I was so happy that he was able to do everything to such a high degree of quality. As a side note, I've had handyman who were not professionally dressed or smelt like cigerettes. José was the opposite. He was very clean and professionally dressed and even took his shoes off as I requested.

We had a great experience using John. We hired him to make some repairs to areas leaking in our bathroom. He regrouted and sealed our shower and tub, and even replaced a damaged tile. He also completed some drywall repairs to our damaged kitchen ceiling which was leaking from the damaged areas in the bathroom. He was quick and very flexible with our schedules ,and even came back a couple of extra days to make sure the job was completed properly. He also did some extra work for us when asked at a reasonable price. We will definitely be calling him again for future handyman services needed around the house.

Paul is great. I wish the app would have allowed me to select all five attributes as best—professionalism, value, work quality, responsiveness, and punctuality. He responded to our request very quickly. He had great communication prior to and during our jobs. Appreciate his workmanship and attention to detail. He’s been out twice already and scheduled to come out at least one more time. If you are looking for handyman services, you will not be disappointed in Paul’s work. I would highly recommend him. So far he’s installed 4 ceiling fans, 3 faucets, a shower stall light/fan combo; and my list goes on. 😁👍

Jay replaced and moved our circuit breaker box to make it code compliant. He also installed recessed canned lighting and ensured that all switches in the house worked and were up to date. He was professional at every step of the way and extremely easy to work with. I would recommend him to anyone looking for an electrician and will likely use him again.

My sink had been clogged with water for over a day. Jeff was able to fix my clogged sink by snaking it as well as my slow draining master bath. He was efficient, professional, and was able to have my issue resolved the very next day. I will definitely use him for future projects and issues. I would highly recommend him for anyone looking for a reliable handyman/plumber. Thank you Jeff again!

Price was right. The gentleman doing the trimming was very courteous and did a great job. He even straightened out my fence gate that was twisted by Hurricane Irma. Cleaned up all the debris and hauled it away. Couldn't ask for more. Would hire again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good handyman?

Finding a good handyman can change your life. Within days, the endless list of insurmountable tasks that were either out of your skill range or impossible to fit into your busy schedule can be completed. If you know you want help but aren’t sure how to hire the right pro, ask these questions to find the right fit:

  • What is your work experience? If you are putting in a tile backsplash, you want someone experienced with the task, not someone who generally does painting and junk removal.
  • How much do you charge? Handymen often charge hourly rates that vary based on the complexity of the task they’re hired to do, as well as flat rates for standard jobs. Be clear about what they’ll charge before you hire them.
    • On that note, discuss payment details. It’s wise not to pay all the money up front, especially for larger projects. You may be able to pay a deposit for materials and pay the remainder upon project completion.
  • How long will the job take you to complete? If the handyman is as busy as you are and a fence repair is going to take months, you should probably find another qualified handyman for the job.

Read client reviews and follow up with references to make sure you’re choosing the right handyman for your projects. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What does a handyman do?

A handyman is a skilled laborer who provides basic home repairs. Anyone can call themselves a handyman, although most who do so are skilled with repairs and home projects. Reading reviews is a good way to determine their fitness for your job. The tasks a handyman can perform include assembling furniture, painting interiors and exteriors, repairing fences, repairing broken doors or replacing trim, hanging lights, hooking up appliances, and much more. Handymen may have flat fees for certain services, or charge an hourly rate. Handyman rates are often lower than those of a contractor, as they don’t have the same specialization. Some states have no limit on the work a handyman can perform, while others do. For example, California’s Building and Professions Code section 7048 (small operations) permits handymen to provide work similar to that of a contractor (floor installation, painting, etc.) provided the total cost of labor and materials does not exceed $500. A handyman is a great resource for minor home repairs at a lower cost than a licensed contractor, but for more complex projects, it pays to hire a specialized contractor. Fore more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does a handyman charge?

The national average rate for handyman jobs is $90-$160. A handyman performs general maintenance and repairs for residential and commercial properties. A handyman may charge a flat fee for standard services that take a predictable amount of time, such as installing a new appliance, as well as an hourly rate for larger projects such as digging out and replacing a rotted fence post. A cost-saving strategy when hiring a handyman is to bundle all the tasks you want them to do into one visit to make the most of any minimum service fee. Hourly rates for a handyman can average $50-$100 per hour. Pricing will depend on skill and experience required for the job, as well as regional labor rates. Here are a few examples of average handyman flat rates.

  • Attic ladder replacement: $150.
  • Toilet replacement: $75.
  • Ceiling fan and light fixtures: $75.
  • Faucet replacement: $125.
  • Garbage disposal: $75.

Can a handyman do plumbing?

In some states, a handyman can provide plumbing services, but it may be in your best interest to call a plumber, particularly for issues more major than unclogging a drain or attaching a new sink. Hiring a plumber is important because mishandling your water and gas lines has the potential to do great damage to your home, your family’s health, or even the safety of your neighborhood. A handyman is not legally required to have any training or licensing in plumbing matters, while a licensed plumber has undergone years of education and on-the-job training. In some cases, homeowners insurance won’t cover damage caused by plumbing repair done by an unlicensed handyman.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, most plumbers learn their trade through a four- or five-year apprenticeship with 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job training. They also receive classroom education including “safety, local plumbing codes and regulations, and blueprint reading. They also study mathematics, applied physics, and chemistry. After completing an apprenticeship program, plumbers … are considered to be journey workers, qualifying them to perform duties on their own,” according to the DOL. Licensed plumbers should do continuing education to keep abreast of safety and technology changes. Poor plumbing can lead to sewage backups, a flooded home or even natural gas leaks, so it’s best to leave it in the hands of a specialized professional.
