I decided to give Thumbtack a try for a pressure washing job involving cleaning of a white vinyl fence which had grass stains in some areas, pool decking, an enclosed patio, and driveway. After receiving numerous quotes, I decided to move forward with Bay Bright and even expanded the job scope to include cleaning of gutters. The owner showed up as scheduled to do the work and was extremely conscientious in ensuring all aspects of the job were completed in a manner meeting my expectations. The job took longer than initially expected, but he remained diligent throughout the process. Upon completion, everything looked so much better! The job was well done and I'm glad that I now know who to call for future pressure washing services when needed. Thank you Thumbtack ... and thank you Bay Bright!

George really knows what he's doing. One fast, reliable and competent hard worker! He knew how to create solutions to problems with different types of furniture assembly. He hung lights, a ceiling fan, minor drywall, hung heavy wall mounted items, even purchased the parts needed without bothering me to do it. He is talented, cleans up and handles the jobs with care and doesn't try and over charge. Thanks George! Angela & Paul Harris

We had a great first impression from Julian. A few of our soffit panels fell during the tropical storm Hermine. He was prompted to help and provide us with a quote. He was also able to provide a quote to remove the old pool water heater installed on our roof. The crew showed up early morning this past Sunday. They were very friendly and professional. They called one hour before and then 10 minutes away. They worked the whole Sunday and did a final final walk through with us to ensure all our concerns were addressed. By the end of the day, everything was fixed and they hauled away all the old water heater parts.

Nelson sent an installer to install 6x24 wood look porcelain tile in my master bedroom and enclosed porch along with new baseboard and crown molding. The installer was very punctual and professional and did a fantastic job of laying the tile on a very uneven concrete floor. He did a beautiful job and in the end both floors are incredibly flat with no "toe kickers". I will definitely be contacting Nelson for other jobs I need done around the house. Thank you Nelson and Estenio! Oh yeah, and the best part is, the pricing was very reasonable!

We couldn't have asked for a better choice in a roofing repair company and working with Barry Moffatt was a true blessing. Storm Roofing was the first company to answer my Thumbtack request, Barry was the first one to come out and check our roof for the problem and his estimate was more than fair. Barry was very professional; his crew was extremely knowledgeable and handled his direction very well and he remained on site until the job was done to everyone's satisfaction. I would DEFINITELY recommend Barry Moffatt and Storm Roofing and Repair to anyone in their area for their roofing needs. Thanks Barry for a job well done.

This was my first choice going into finding estimates. The gentleman that came to my house, George, was very nice. Called me to let me know he was on the way. Answered all my questions made sure I understood everything. I ultimately had to postpone my roofing project and went with a different company because my budget is broke college student thin. The price was fair and though I didn't get a written estimate I was pleased with their customer service.

Roofing work performed and small dry wall ceiling repair. Daniel came in, gave us an estimate, returned and did the work just as he said he would. He identified the problem, took pictures so we could see what he was talking about and he did a good job on the repair. We will be hiring him to do more work on our house. We were pleased. ER

After interviewing 4 roofing companies after hurricane Irma damage , this company was available within two weeks for whole roof replacement. Sales rep is a third generation roofer. His integrity and knowledge shined through . A bit higher than one other quote however I have no regrets. They came on time every day and finished the roof in two days . 10 man crew ! I would of given them a 5 however the dump company they used, ruined one small section of decorative curb and my drive way . Not repaired yet.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
