I'm not a professional singer but I've always enjoyed singing and wanted to sing better. I didn't know if that was possible given my age (68), but even after the first lesson with Caryn I knew it was possible, and I was excited. She worked on proper breathing techniques, posture, range and methods for relaxation! Her non-threatening and friendly personality made the lessons comfortable and fun. I have a new appreciation for what our instrument (voice) is capable of...at any age. Along with my new knowledge has come confidence and joy! Thank you Caryn!

Ms. Iveth is an absolute gem. She is sweet, caring, flexible and very knowledgeable on child learning techniques. My 4 yr. old daughter has been taking lessons with her for 6 months and she couldn't be more excited about learning Spanish and for Ms. Iveth's weekly visit. She now associates learning new words with also asking how to say them in Spanish. If you are a Spanish speaker who married a non-Spanish speaker (like me) and still want your children to learn the language; this is the way to go. I highly recommend Ms. Iveth to families with young children.

I was looking for someone close by that would be willing to teach Spanish lessons in a face-to-face setting. Jeannette provides me with Spanish lessons 3 times a week at my house. She is punctual and organized. Jeannette will assign homework if you want and is helpful at clarifying any questions you may have. I have recommended Jeanette to several people I know personally and would recommend her to anyone here on this site. I know she also does lessons online if you're so inclined.

Georgette is awesome!!! A rockstar!!! I have a 12 year old honor student (talented and gifted student affiliated with the Cambridge University program and Duke University's academic program) who's been taking spanish in 7th grade since last semester. She has an A but has never been able to string together more than 2-3 words in Spanish at a time lol. After 1 lesson with Georgette, my child was able to answer a very long and complex question posed in English- IN SPANISH!!! And with such confidence!!! I felt sooooo proud!! But not nearly as proud as my dear daughter!! I'm very excited about this wonderful trip we are about to take with Georgette to the land of fluency lol!! She's very informative, knowledgable and flexible; even willing to give lessons via video chat on skype/FaceTime etc whn my child goes away this summer for vaca!! My daughter is very excited, comfortable with Georgette and looking forward to being fluent in Spanish!!

I am a 67 year old woman that just started a life long dream of playing piano. My husband bought me lessons for Christmas. Joyce is the perfect teacher for me. She is professional and makes the lessons easy to understand and very enjoyable. She makes it fun and is very patient and encouraging. I'm sure I'll be playing Chopin in due time.

Jose Cavalli is the best Spanish instructor I have ever had! Jose did an excellent job of gauging my level of fluency and customizing lessons to my professional field. The Skype sessions are particularly useful for me since I am an extremely busy professional. Jose is always very flexible and works around my schedule. My ability to speak, read and write in Spanish words has greatly improved since I started working with Jose just a couple of months ago. I greatly enjoy the pace of our lessons and I appreciate the fact that he continuously challenges me to learn new tenses and concepts. The files that he utilizes to teach the course are very straightforward and illustrative. I would recommend Jose to anyone who has a desire to master Spanish...from the beginner student to those who are seeking to improve their level of fluency.

I found Oleksandra here on Thumbtack. She always brings great activities & gives us “homework.” She has a very patient approach & has been flexible. My oldest daughter, who is 5, had her 1st lesson at the end of April 2018 & has had them pretty regularly since then. I love Seeing the interest in playin music grow in both of my kids since beginning lessons. I am Learning too since she encourages me to sit piano-side. She makes many of the concepts very easy to understand. Our baby Grand is an antique and she has been able to work around its little issues. She has recommended some great learning resources to us on amazon which I ordered as well. I believe We will be working with her for a very long time to come as long as she’s willing! Thank you, GK

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

What do you learn in a first aid course?

First aid training gives you a variety of lifesaving skills for responding to many different emergency situations. In a first aid course you’ll learn about how to examine someone who’s been hurt, how to use a defibrillator, how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and how to control bleeding and trauma. Some courses include pediatric first aid as well as adult first aid; helping a choking infant, for example, is different from helping a choking adult. Although you can take CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) courses separately, most first aid training includes both.

In a first aid course you’ll also learn how to respond to:

  • Wounds, including punctures, cuts and hemorrhages
  • Heart attacks, chest pain and respiratory arrest
  • Bone fractures, sprains and torn muscles
  • First-, second- and third-degree burns
  • Poisoning
  • Choking
  • Bites and stings
  • Hypothermia or frostbite
  • Shock and seizures
