I hired Felipe to fix my ceiling due to a pipe leak and tile/crow mold my half bath. The ceiling leak was pretty fixed...truth e told I don't think it was completely dried and that is why I am still seeing lighter stains. As for the half bath, the crown molding looks amazing. The floor looks pretty great, too. In the future, I would definitely hire Felipe again, but would verify that he has a wet saw for stone tile...faster install.

After lots of research for TV installers, I chose Telly Wall Install for these reasons: 1. The customer reviews. 2. The pictures on the website. 3. The price. 4. Flexible appointment. Lead Installer, Troy, was very professional and knowledgeable. He took his time and was very meticulous to make sure that everything was in place (he also cleaned up the debris afterwards). Troy offered skilled suggestions, as I was uncertain of the dynamics of the install and a little leery of the structure of the stone fireplace where the 60“ TV was being installed. The end results were beautiful and just what I wanted…with no wires showing. I would definitely insist that if you are looking for a quality, professional service, from a company that cares, please contact Telly Wall Install.

Jose' and Ali are finishing up several projects at my house. The big one was a renovation to my patio where I wanted to remove 2 of the support pillars, add a LVL beam and change the existing beams to stacked stone. It was a big project, but the job they did is outstanding and they did it in record time. They also replaced 2 doors that were rotting out. I've been looking for a contractor like this since I moved into my current house. They have earned a customer for life. Their prices are very reasonable, they work very hard to make sure it's right, and they do fantastic work. They'll be back for the other future projects I can dream up, not to mention the repairs that any house needs from time to time.

Nelson and his crew completely transformed our back yard and we could not have been more delighted by the process or the outcome. The Entire Legacy Crew were dedicated, hard working, polite and professional. The scope of the job included major concrete work, 2 retaining walls, sod installation, stone work, irrigation, in ground drainage and landscaping. All of this work was completed by Legacy in two short weeks. Nelson was "hands on" throughout the process and treated our job as if it were his own backyard. I can not say enough good things about our experience. Thank you Nelson and Legacy Outdoor Living for enhancing our home and for providing us with an outdoor space that we love are so very proud of.

Artistic Design Roofing, I had a good experience with this roofing company. They roofed my house and did a great job. I had them back this week to sheath and roof a backyard patio with the same roofing material so it matched my house. They sent two roofers for the two day job. The workers at Artistic Design Roofing in Stone Mountain GA were very professional and courteous. They clearly wanted to ensure I was happy with their work and explained things while they worked. I would recommend this company and would hire them again. My in laws had similar positive experiences with this company as well.

We had new retaining walls built on both sides of the driveway as well as some landscaping done. We were very pleased with the project from beginning to end. Josh helped us with our product choices for the walls as well as plant selections. The project included removal of the existing stone walls, stump removal and plant removal. The crew was knowledgeable about all aspects of the job. We would definitely recommend The New South Group.

Martin first came to our rescue in 1997, when we needed major landscaping for our new swimming pool. The area on one side of the pool needed building up, and to keep it intact and level a wall roughly 4' high was required. Martin did the job right, installing a drainage system behind the timber wall and securing it with over 30 deadmen. He also brought in loads of topsoil as needed and ordered and delivered the sod we selected. As a bonus, he helped us lay the sod. About a decade later we hired Martin to design and build a long garden that extends from the pool up one side of the house and ends at the driveway. At the latter point he constructed a raised garden that curves beautifully around a flagstone plot. He built a stone wall fronting the garden that tapers to the ground, in harmony with the slope of the land. He selected all the plants and flowers, keeping in mind our wish for low maintenance as well as beauty. The gardens and the landscaping generally is something any artist would admire, if not envy. A few years later we asked Martin to build another raised garden in front of our house and to fix the sinking front steps. In addition, we wanted a flagstone sidewalk to replace the builder's concrete pathway. We also wanted the porch to be surfaced with flagstone. Again, Martin came through, rebuilding the porch foundation and laying out a flagstone path that has truly elevated our home's attractiveness. I wish I could think of something he could've done better to make this review seem more credible, but honestly, I can't. His rates are often lower than most, and his work reflects the dedication of a landscape artist. If need to add lasting beauty to your home you should give Martin McMillan serious consideration. I highly recommend Bregenzer’s Inc.! Recently, they did major pruning in my yard, built an urbanite wall, a flagstone walkway, and a mini slate chip walkway/steps. This was all accomplished in 1 week and a 1 day. Roger Bregenzer and his crew were very responsive to any concerns that we had during the completion of the project.

I have been a customer of Barnard's landscaping for over 3 years now. They do monthly yard maintenance on my house as well as some work in my back yard. This company has always been on time and does amazing work. I have referred a lot of clients to them in the past. It is amazing that I had one idea in my head about what I wanted done in my back yard and they exceeded my expectations. I have had everything done from yard clean up, to hydro seeding, to stone work in my back yard. I am truly impressed with this company and the quality of work and professionalism they give to their clients. Would recommend them to anyone. It is a family business and does not have the corporate issues that the bigger landscaping companies have. If I need to contact the owner for any reason he is great about immediate responses by either email or phone and my issue is resolved. I feel like he takes pride in making each client a priority.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
