I called Phil arranged a time to clean my roof. He did an excellent job. He went the extra took a look at the roof overall and found some trouble spots on the chimney that needed work. I have hired Phil to fix that as well. A pleasant experience.

Extremely professional and knowledgeable. He gave me more than one option to repair my roof and siding, based on my budget. I'll be honest, I am on a budget so I chose the cheaper option. However, I have to admit the finished project looked as though I chose the most expensive option. After seeing his completed work I have decided to hire him for other home repairs. Overall, I have to give him the highest rating and suggest others take advantage of his honest quality service.

We were provided with a new roof. The workers came out and completed the task with no incident, cleaned the property up after they finished and made sure everything was the same way they came. The service the workers provided was A+. Thanks for all of your speedy services and a great price for the roof. Enjoy your day and much success.

Rush and his crew did a great job! there was a roof leak at the chimney. the went to the roof (3 floors on a hill), also replaced all gutters with 4"and put on gutter guards. great job considering the builder didn't install roof shingles correct. He gave a good warranty too.

HRC installed new gutters and a new roof on our house. Mr. Hood was very friendly and professional and provided a very competitive price for the work to be performed. He is extremely knowledgeable and cared deeply about the quality of work he was performing. His staff arrived on time, and the entire project could not have gone smoother. We are very pleased with HRC and will use them again when the need arises.

In a tight spot due to Homeowner's Insurance cancellation, my Wife and I had to find a new roof promptly and efficiently. The first few offers from Thumbtack were not great. One company emailed me a quote without even coming to assess the property. From Wednesday-Tuesday I visited with 5 other roofers. Ray, with the Art of Home Improvement, was working another job and was unable to come out until Tuesday. I had all but accepted the fate of a $12k roof job. I was defeated, disappointed and had a new baby at home. Insurance cancellation FORCING us to buy a new roof wqs not something I was even remotely happy about. Tuesday afternoon, Ray Beaty comes over. He has a pamphlet, similar to the other companies. He has sample shingles. He also has a REAL PERSONALITY. He quoted me a price $4k under the competitors. He set the date. His team showed up on time, finished the job in one day and left no trace of their work. Ray is someone I highly recommend. He has been professional, warm and friendly, by far the most cost effective and his work speaks for itself. Thanks for the excellent work Ray. The Art of Home Improvement provided excellent, quality work in a day and age where honesty, hard work and thorough results are hard to find. Keep it up!

Lee came out and was very informative. No high pressure sales or attempts to inflate the job. He was honest, forthright and effective. I had an issue where the design of the roof would cause a dam of leaves to easily build up and then overflow the flashing to the siding and down into the house. He resolved the issue by placing a cricket in the valley and adjusted the gutter. The job was done super fast and over all I am pleased. The best recommendation I can give is that I will continue to use Lee in the future

Micah responded quickly and on the same day I submitted a request to assess what I thought was a leak from the roof. He went into the attic 2X, checked thoroughly, and concluded that it wasn't the roof, but a possible HVAC problem. He was very friendly and professional. If I ever have any roof problems, I'll be sure to call this company again.

Kevin Penney has done several jobs for me in the past few months. It started with drying out a basement after a plumbing leak, and I liked him so much that I hired him to repair my roof, re-do thresholds and seals on several doors, install a chandelier, install a screen door, and we have one more shelving/painting project in my office that I'd like to get done before the end of the year. I'm so glad to have this relationship with Kevin now. He's a great communicator, on time, always respectful of me, my home, my pets and my time, and he cares about the nitty-gritty details! I have referred friends to him and will continue to do so with great confidence!

We are very pleased with how our new roof looks!  From the first contact with Brandon, to completion of the build, everything was very smooth.  We had wind damage to our roof and Brandon was very knowledgeable about the entire process of working with our insurance company.  When we met to go over the scope of the work to be done,  Brandon was was forthcoming with all the details and what to expect.  The team of workers who did our build were friendly and considerate.  Most of all, they did an amazing job with our new roof and even matched the color of a 10 year roof! I would definitely recommend Innovative Builders & Development Group to anyone needing roofing work or repairs.  His prices are very reasonable and his work is impeccable!

Chris was very punctual and flexible. He replaced my ridge vents and flashing around my fireplace. He was able to work within my budget and kept me updated on the work progress. Eventhough the weather was an issue, he completed the job in a timely manner. I would use him again for my regular roof maintenance.

Exactly roofing was a fantastic company to work with. They listened to me and keep everything straight forward. They answered all my questions in a timely fashion. They even told me about do’s and don’ts with the new roof. They also repainted my fence for my back that looked awful. Now it looks sooooo good. I would definitely to business with them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
