From the start to the end of the project, we were fully aware of everything that was happening. Hugo did a full renovation of our bathroom, repair of the drywalls in the kitchen, dining room, powder room, laundry room and garage. We were so happy that we had him and his team paint almost the whole house as well. We also got a quote to have the family room flooring done as well. We would be scheduling that beginning of next year for sure. His prices were amazing and you can also save on materials and supplies with him. He also finds ways to help you save on other things as well. For someone like us who were just feeling devastated by the damage to our home, Hugo was a huge part in helping us cope and recover. Moussa and his crew completely did my basement. Before starting, my basement was completely raw and Moussa worked with me in understanding what work needed to be done how he was going to do it, what the final finishes were going to look like (prior to starting), finished early and was did a tremendous job. I highly recommend Moussa's work. Moussa also gave a fair price, other quotes I received were much higher and doubt they could have done nearly as good of a job. Please contact if you need before / after pictures. All my concerns, big or small, and at any point in the construction process were answered and addressed without hesitation. Nothing to complain about when the job was finished! Task performed (all to code): Framing, drywall, tiled, installed an entire bathroom in the basement (had to install sump pump), concrete, HVAC, gas lines, electrical, lighting, installed a spiral staircase where there was no staircase originally.

Overall my basement turned out good. Roy was professional and attentive to my requests as I can be very anal. A few things that I would be more careful with working with Roy and his crew: 1. The work will get done but there will almost always be imperfections in the work. There is no care to detail. For example, a cabinet was bought and part of the cabinet was placed over the sump pump - now anyone would know that should not be there so I had Roy cut some of the cabinet and remove it off of the sump pump. 2. All of the sump pumps were put on the electrical line that feeds to my upstairs so all of these devices on one circuit should not have happened - the electrical went out on the first floor and I ended up having to pay for food lost by my tenants which totaled to $500 to replace. Roy ended up paying 1/2 on the electrical work that needed to be done to hold the appliances which totaled to $2700, but this could have prevented if Roy paid close attention to this detail. I paid an additional $1850 to the $33,000 project due to careless mistake. 3. It’s been a year since my basement has been done and things are falling apart. The wiring came down in the ceiling and the stairs pictured are now caving in. The lighting in the bathroom is too low over the mirror. The shelving in the closets in the bedrooms in the basement need to be replaced because the material is flimsy and not sturdy. 4. There is a $1500 bronze part that goes to my sprinkler system that now is missing. Guess what another $1500 that I have to pay for because I’m assuming that one of Roy’s workers stole it. It is no where to be found. Again, no care to detail! Additional costs out of my pocket for careless mistakes. The basement is nice so I appreciate the work done but will not hire again. As I appreciate the professionalism given by Roy, I honestly don’t think he really knew what he was doing - I’m not a contractor but there are some things I know just don’t make sense and I had to tell Roy very simple things to help him get through this project. Would recommend that Roy gets a better team and maybe gain experience before doing bigger projects. Appreciate the patience you had with me but after a year things should not be falling apart in my basement and now I need to hire someone who has the expertise to come fix things the RIGHT WAY!

Stan came by and he understood what I was looking for pretty quickly. He had ideas and suggestions for my situation we ended up using which were valuable improvements. I got a better result than I was expecting particularly in the bathroom/shower and kitchenette part of the unit. Hiring someone when you are doing a big project is a little overwhelming but these guys are straight shooters.

Not honest. Handy Hands was hired to address a punch list of items and some rehab to prepare a house for sale. After about two weeks aI stopped by to assess progress before making the next payment. Any money paid to Phoenix Lee was wasted. There was minimal progress noted, and what was noted looks sub-par, incomplete, or in need of being redone. Nothing that was done would appear to help make the house more marketable. For example, he felt water was entering the basement from the wide gangway, so he filled the seems with some silicon caulk. He was supposed to repair and install a new roof and sliver coat it. He did not install or repair but claimed that he did.

How can modern improvements improve in the future? Be straightforward in the beginning and know your limitations. If you’re unable to perform a task be big enough to say, “I’ve never done anything like this before” or “I usually tackle smaller projects.” The work that was presented as a final product on my basement renovation did not meet my expectations. Then, when I raised concerns I was told my house was a, “Trap-house.” I’ll cede it’s a 100 year old brick bungalow and that water came in through the backdoor during a heavy downpour. But what kind of reply is, “I can’t turn a turd into gold”? I would not recommend this company based off of the work and the disrespect that came the moment I gave an honest critique.

Eric and his team were amazing! We had a no fun project on our list to remove an old storm door that was rotting out and letting water into our basement. Every time we spoke with someone they pointed to a different type of professional we needed to talk to first. When Eric came out he didn’t bat an eye, knew exactly how we needed to move forward and quarterbacked the whole project. His team was timely and respectful (we had a 10 week old baby at home during the project). TMV was great to work with. We had a lot of drywall finish work that needed to be done in our basement (laundry room and storage room and under the stairs). We also had them rip out some tile in our powder room and replace it with drywall so we can put in wallpaper. These guys are very easy going and easy to work with and exceptional at communication. I have been working with this team so far for about a week. They are refinishing our basement, which we had to demolish for permaseal to waterproof and install drain tile and a sump pump in the basement of our new home. They are very communicative. They are always there exactly the time they say they will be and give status reports on every step of the way. So far, the quality of the work has been amazing. They truly work to make sure you're happy and its quite clear in their communication that they wish to make their customers happy. My project isn't finished yet (and I will review again if it is) but I am thus far very satisfied, having previously used contractors who lollygagged and dragged out the job unnecessarily. Edit: Do not use these people. What was a great experience went sour VERY fast. I would give this place zero stars if I could. I hired them to frame my basement with drywall and demolish an old ceramic floor also to cut down my lot next door which was over grown. At first, everything was great. Matt seems responsive and courteous. I am not a construction expert, just a woman who is renovating a home for my family. They did a great job on my lot and a great job demolishing the floors. This is where the good ends. I paid separately for my materials (mostly because there is often materials left over and we have many projects going on around our house so they always come in handy and I like to know exactly where my money goes). I asked Matt plainly if he could leave any left over materials behind because they were mine. He lied and told me that the other materials were not mine and that they belonged to another customer and had been delivered to my house. (this was fishy to me at the time but I had no reason to believe that he was scamming us nor the knowledge to prove him wrong. I paid for: Dewalt 3 1/4 framing nails: 6,000 qty $129.00 Sheetrock 1/2" mold tough drywall 60 qty $577.20 Pro twist #6 1 5/8 Phillip's drywall screws 5,000 qty $57.00 Owns Corning pink fiberglass insulation 60 qty $627.00 Sound proof insulation 7 qty $601.40 2 x 4 96" 115 qty $917.70 X 1 $917.70 Liquid nail 10 qty $36.70 1 $36.70 Total for materials, I paid $3,240.60 with 10% sales tax. Obviously, they did not use 600 nails, 5000 screws. They did not leave these materials behind. They did not use all 60 of the insulation panels and did not even insulate every wall, they used 10 at the most according to our new contractors. They did not use 60 drywall panels- they used 35 at the most. They did not use 115 2X4 and did not even frame every wall. Generous estimate of new contractors? They used 90 at the most. It seems petty, but I paid outright for over 3200 dollars in materials and they straight up stole HALF of that, presumably to use on someone else's house. Some of the things they did wrong: Firstly- they covered almost all of the outlets for the west exterior and interior walls. My new contractor asked me to point out where I'd like my outlets to be and imagine my surprise when I realized the ones that were there had seemingly disappeared. Secondly- they did not use framing lumber under the windows nor near the stairs- resulting in the dry wall not being securely attached in those areas at all. You could touch the wall and it would bow in. Thirdly- for the base north exterior wall, they did not frame the floor with lumber so the drywall floats in the air and can be moved side to side. Lastly- the doorways that they framed for the bathroom/bedroom/closet area were supposed to be the same size and centered. They are not the same size and they are definitely not centered at all. I paid them 7000 for this. We also paid them to haul away some debris that previous contractors left behind. They hauled away most of it but left a BIG pile of it on the edge of my property, claiming that they had paid Republic to pick it up. It has been three weeks now and it is still sitting in the rain getting soggy and disgusting. I have reached out to the business about these problems and they have not been responsive at all, which is why I am posting this review. I paid them 500 for this. Very disappointing experience. We feel very taken advantage of by Matt and Modern Improvements. Unless you have the ability to micromanage and know everything about construction (which you likely do not if you're considering a contractor)- do not give these people your money unless it is for SMALL jobs that can be done in a day or two. In all, I paid them over 10k for a way less than satisfactory job on everything but the jobs that actually required construction. I am glad that I paid someone else to do the taping and mudding and they were able to bring these problems to my attention before Matt and his team could cover and paint them. It will be more expensive- but it will be done RIGHT. I will definitely be seeking legal recourse to recoup my funds and I am very disappointed in this business because I had such high hope.
