I've been taking lessons with Jon for over a month now, and have seen my skill grow considerably. He is a wildly talented musician, and equally talented teacher. He has a deep passion for music, and seeing his students grow. Jon marries theory with practice - so if you're a nerd (like me) you'll enjoy the depths of his musical knowledge. I treasure my lessons, and look forward to many more.

I arranged for guitar lessons for a child. Someone from Reverb wrote to me to recommend a teacher, whom we hired, and after the first lesson followed up by text to ask how it had gone. The guitar teacher corresponded with me before the first lesson. I found everyone helpful and responsive, and it's easy to keep track of and pay for lessons through their portal.

My two girls enjoyed every single thing they did at Stacey De: Piano, voice, acting and guitar. They made friends, learned confidence, became a part of a family and mostly, have taken all these lessons with them to college. We will always consider Stacey De as part of our family!

I chose Ms. Allenfort as my instructor because of her vast experience as a professional pianist, teacher and performer. She has a wealth of knowledge to share with her students. After only three months of lessons I am very happy with my progress and the new skills I have obtained!

I love working with Paul! I've been studying guitar and electric bass with him for over two years now. The growth I've experienced as a musician has been tremendous, and we have a blast together during lessons. He's funny, laid back, patient, and super smart (REALLY knows his stuff). You can tell you're working with a professional musician here. I love jamming together, our weekly lessons are the highlight of my week.

I am a big fan of Jeremie's teaching method. This guy is amazing. Our lessons are online but that in no way diminishes their quality. I look forward to each lesson and suspect that will be the case indefinitely. He helped me find a new guitar, gave me some great tips about what to look for in an amp. He's given me innumerable pointers, pieces of music theory, sheet music (including tablature) for songs I'm interested in, and great advice about how to take stock in my progress (especially during times when it seems like I'm not moving forward very much). I don't think I could recommend Jeremie enough. If you get the chance to work with him, do yourself a favor and take it.

I’ve been singing forever, and Elisabeth is hands down the best teacher of vocal technique I’ve ever worked with. She can teach any style and really understands how the voice works. She doesn’t settle for just good enough, always pushing you to be excellent. I’ve had a lot of success in the musical theater world and I owe so much of that success to Elisabeth.

I admit I am very picky. I came on here and takelessons.com and decided on Sara for two reasons. I saw a sample video of her voice and I felt comfortable that she would not laugh me out the door being new to singing. Well, I feel lucky to being taking lessons with Sara. She is very balanced, being understanding and also pushing for accomplishing goals. Well, I have had lessons for the past four months and moving to Colorado. I hope the technical works because I do not want to lose her as my coach, so asked her if we could try skype for lessons. Anyway, I hate to give away a great secret, but Sara is outstanding as a voice coach! I always felt uplifted after lessons too.

Mile is timely, comes prepared, and is patient with my three children - all under age 12. He tries to maintain their interest in piano by balancing lessons in technical theory, with sheet music they are interested in learning. My kids have told me they prefer lessons with him over their last teacher.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
