I've been taking lessons with Jon for over a month now, and have seen my skill grow considerably. He is a wildly talented musician, and equally talented teacher. He has a deep passion for music, and seeing his students grow. Jon marries theory with practice - so if you're a nerd (like me) you'll enjoy the depths of his musical knowledge. I treasure my lessons, and look forward to many more.
If you really want to learn to sing well, take lessons from Mr. Dave. I studied with him all through high school, and my college professors were so impressed that I knew the basics of singing more than most incoming freshmen. He makes sure to explain everything that is happening with your voice in detail so that you understand exactly what is going on and what you need to do to recreate that perfect sound. Mr. Dave also encourages his students to explore their own voice for themselves and see what techniques and methods work best for each individual singer. He's knowledgeable and passionate about singing, and I highly recommend him to any aspiring singer.
So far we are off to a great start, I have had three lessons, and feel that I am already improving in my conversation skills.
Very welcoming and knowledgable. Already scheduled my next lesson. Looking forward to continuing lessons.
My daughter started piano lessons with Stacey just a month ago but she is so excited every week to go. We have been very happy with how Stacey has progressed her - continually adding more difficult pieces to work on to see what she can do. This is our first experience w music lessons of any type and we are really happy with Stacey De & Co! Even my son, who never wants to try anything new, has started asking about taking drum lessons there. We couldn't be happier :)
Our 11 year old son has been taking lessons with Elif for 5 years. She is excellent with young children and teaches them proper technique from the very beginning. Elif also incorporates her experience as a performer into her teaching. She teaches her students to do more than just play the correct notes. She teaches them to express the music as the composer intended, and pay attention to details that make the difference between a mediocre performance and an outstanding one. Her students also have the opportunity to perform at recitals twice a year. Elif is an outstanding teacher who shares her passion for music with every one of her students.
I have been taking lessons from Dan for more than two and a half years and it something I look forward to every week. Aside from being a great teacher, he is fun, understanding and very talented. He takes the time to help you understand the structure of what you are learning without over burdening you with theory. He is also really interested in making sure you are enjoying playing (that is the point) and getting out of it exactly what you want. Any time I have a request (no matter how absurd) of a song to learn, Dan takes the time to find a good arrangement at my level and teaches it to me. It is really nice having that flexibility and personal investment in my lessons. In just two and a half years, I went from playing no to guitar to be comfortable jamming with my friends while also developing my classical guitar playing skills. His musical interests are vast; from beautiful classical pieces to classic rock solos to movie soundtracks (he loves Storybook Love from the Princess Bride). This blend of genres and talents truly sets Dan a part and I would encourage anyone looking to finally learn the guitar to sign up for lessons with Dan.
Matt is an exceptional guitar teacher. He has a great balance of ultimate patience and expansive skill. He tailors the lessons exactly to my skill level, and is great about pushing me to improve in a gentle way. Matt can decode any song I want to play, and break it down in a way that works best with my approach to learning and my skill level. In addition to being an excellent guitar teacher, Matt works with my whole family to bring us together as a band (guitar, drums, piano, and voice). He has an uncanny ability to get the instrument mix perfect, and to coach all of us to come together. I am a 53 year-old guy, and Matt is not only exceptional for me, but also adapts perfectly for my two daughters (age 18 on piano and age 14 on drums). Both of my daughters begrudgingly put in years of piano lessons with conventional teachers, but now truly enjoy playing together under Matt's tutelage. Further, Matt is a great guy ... very dependable and trustworthy. I have had several guitar teachers, and none came anywhere close to Matt's teaching abilities. I cannot recommend Matt highly enough.
I'm very happy with my lessons!
Our 8-year old has been taking piano lessons with Ms. Rum for a little more than two months, and she's learned so much already. Phil and Rum are lovely people. And we really appreciate the affordable rates they offer. Highly recommended!
I have been taking Spanish lessons with Cristobal for coming up on a year and French lessons for the past 6 months or so. While I am sure that there are plenty of choices for tutoring this may be the only teacher I have had that I can honestly say has far superior methodology versus all my other professors. I don't say this lightly either, I say this coming from years of experience with other teachers in various settings. Just to give a little background, I studied Spanish for 3 years in high school, then studied in Mexico at a vocational school in a completely immersed environment (living with a host family of non-English speakers) far from the reaches of most gringos in a small city called Cuernavaca. I have worked with native Spanish speakers that speak very little English for 10+ years, studied Spanish in college for 4 semesters, and even studied with Professor William Slavin for two years in weekly private sessions, a local scholar who spoke English, Spanish, French, ,Italian, Portuguese, and Hebrew. While Slavin's approach was very thorough, Cristobal's approach is practical, more natural, and aimed at speaking. Ole! Spanish School isn't just another business in the sea, it's a place with an authentic philosophy and a natural approach to language learning. To make the experience even better, his rates are super reasonable and he has a very easy going personality that creates a relaxed environment. His positive ratings exist for a reason.
Peter is an outstanding instructor. Very personable, knowledgeable, takes his time to instruct, demonstrate and then, while I am peforming the move, if needing correction , does so in a calm and easy way. He fit the bill for everything I am looking for in learning self defense in a non class type setting. You wont be disappointed in giving Peter a try. He has all the equipment, mats, and practice items to use as well..He's also very flexible given my schedule of the times I am in his area on other business, to schedule a lesson around.
As adult playing piano for the first time since childhood, I am thoroughly enjoying my experience taking lessons with Irwin Silbernik.
Joanna has been a phenomenal teacher considering and exceptionally helpful. Her approach is structured yet fun so I am able to learn an instrument and have and enjoy the experience. I look forward to our continued lessons!
He taught my 10yr old daughter piano. She enjoyed the lessons and always looked forward to attending. We asked Shane to prepare and focus her lessons on getting into a specialized arts middle and high school. This school lets in 13 kids each 6th grade year, and they have hundreds of applicants audition. Our child audition and was accepted. Near the audition time, Shane accommodated extra lessons, moved normal lesson times, and did whatever was necessary to ensure she got was she needed to audition. There is no doubt that without him, our daughter wouldn't have been accepted. He also accommodated teaching me guitar before my daughter's session time. I felt like I was able to play the guitar after our first lesson. Anyone looking for lessons would be extremely happy learning from Shane.
This year, our daughter won first place in the Chicago Chapter National Association of Teachers of Singing (CCNATS)’ High School Division 1 Vocal Competition! At Elizabeth’s suggestion, she also auditioned for the Anima Chorus of Glen Ellyn, and sang a solo with them on WFMT’s Saturday Broadcast of Introductions. Elizabeth is truly an amazing teacher! She explains everything very well and never leaves a question unanswered. Our daughter, Brianna Dulock, has received nothing but compliments from other experienced professionals […] It is impressive how much information Elizabeth can fit into one lesson. Thank you, Elizabeth, for the high quality of your voice lessons, and for giving our daughter this amazing voice.” — Rose Figuero Dulock, Stone Park, IL
I got SO much more than I asked for connecting with Altered Stage. Not only does my membership get me access to unlimited guitar lessons with an awesome teacher, it also includes a great space with all the equipment needed, a welcoming community of likeminded and friendly recreational musicians, and the chance to play on-stage with my fellow members once/month. I went from being the guy who could play chords and learn simple songs through tabs to someone who understands music theory and feels comfortable jamming with strangers at the drop of a hat. A huge change from where I started and not at all what I expected. AS gives members the chance to get involved as little or as much as one wants. I could not recommend them more to musicians at any level.
I’ve been singing forever, and Elisabeth is hands down the best teacher of vocal technique I’ve ever worked with. She can teach any style and really understands how the voice works. She doesn’t settle for just good enough, always pushing you to be excellent. I’ve had a lot of success in the musical theater world and I owe so much of that success to Elisabeth.
My kids are taking her lessons. She is patient and thoughtful. After all, she is a gifted pianist. We are very happy to work with her.
I really enjoyed taking guitar lessons with Ryan! He took time to really listen to and understand what my goals were and helped me work towards them, which is no small feat for a complete beginner. He explained new concepts in ways I could understand and I felt comfortable asking for clarification. He also gave me a variety of different exercises (chords, scales, picking, strumming, full songs) to keep things interesting and to keep me engaged. I also liked that he added in a little music theory (at my request) so that I knew why I was doing what I was doing. In all Ryan is kind, chill, accommodating, talented, and thoughtful, so I would definitely recommend him as a teacher.
Both of my daughter's take piano lessons with Ms. Patti. They are 9 & 7 year old girls. They are very different and Ms. Patti teaches each one differently. She has identified their individual strengths and interests and motivates them in these areas. The weekly lessons, quarterly classes, and piano labs throughout the year are a few ways she keeps them challenged and engaged. She finds creative ways to motivate them to practice their piano on a daily bases and rewards their efforts. She encourages them to participant in music recitals and festivals that help them gain confidence and experience in performing. Ms. Patti is an amazing teacher. We are very pleased and our girls love her.
