It was discovered that the problem was not the air conditioner but the circuit board. We therefore need a electrician instead.

I hired Casa Heating & Cooling to install a new air conditioner in June. Overall, it was a good experience. Mike came out and looked at my current AC unit and setup before giving me a quote. The quote was competitive. He worked with me to find a unit that met my needs. The install took longer than expected but they were able to complete it in one day. The new AC worked great all summer with no issues. I didn't have to call him back out at any point during the summer to make adjustments. I would recommend using Casa Heating and Cooling for your AC needs.

Dion was BEYOND fantastic!!!He responded almost immediately after i posted the job, and he was at my house less than an hour after he and I spoke on the phone. Dion fixed the issue with my AC and was very patient and knowledgeable when explaining everything to me. While he was working on my AC, I mentioned that i was fairly certain my air ducts were full of dust from a recent home renovation & probably needed to be cleaned. Dion gave me a reasonable quote to clean them, and I was going to talk it over with my husband that week and would be in touch to schedule it for a later date. However Dion took extra time after completing the AC job to examine my vents. After inspecting them, he told me that they really were not that bad, and he didn’t think they needed to be cleaned at this point. What an HONEST GUY! He could have easily taken advantage of the situation and made a quick buck off of me, but he didn’t!!! He was completely HONEST & clearly wanted what was in the best interest for me and my home. We will definitely be using Dion again!

I was looking for an experienced company that could repair my air-conditioner after the first technician I called told me point blank that it was beyond repair. I couldn't really decipher what made it to stop working but I came back from a long vacation and discovered it wasn't powering on. Not deterred, I continued my search before I found ComfortAire Inc and called their hotline. They responded on the first dial and told me they would come over. True to their assurance, it wasn't long before I saw a van pull up to my door. I showed them where it was and they went to work. Few hours later, they called my attention and told me it was back to normal. I was relieved and excited, and to add to my joy, the amount they charged for it was way below what I feared it would cost. I'm highly impressed with ComfortAire Inc and the two technicians that worked on my Air conditioner.

I had five estimates when I needed a new furnace and an air conditioner 4 years ago. I am so glad I chose TDH. I liked that I got to talk to the owner who came to my condo. He seemed like the most knowledgeable representative of any of these companies. The 15 year transferable warranty is great. And the customer service is excellent. I purchased Trane and have had absolutely no problems, thus far. I highly recommend this company.

EXCELLENT company!!!! John Polermi is the person I worked with and he and his team did a great job. This company installed a new home heating system for me and a new air conditioning part. They were reliable, professional, fairly priced and left the work area spotless after a major installation. I give this company my highest recommendation.

Jason was excellent I was without heat on the coldest day of the year & waited all day for Four Seasons to arrive to install new boiler when they finally showed up at 5:30pm they were trying to charge me a price of over $6000 for a boiler that is advertised for $3600 because it was so cold out & we were desperate to get heat. I could not agree with that I called Jason from COMFORT AIR he came to my house 7:30pm checked all my radiators & the boiler Four Seasons was gonna install was not the proper size for my house so I will recommend COMFORT AIR THEY ARE GREAT I FEEL THEY ARE CARING & HONEST I'm really thank God I called him. I will HIGHLY recommend THIS COMPANY.

June 17, 2016 Annie D. For the past 3 weeks I have been without my central air system, and although I had gotten many estimates from several individuals I was not comfortable with the interaction and lack of information that I received. And as a last resort I went on-line to do some research and got in contact with Mr. Thorson, and some how, some way, he imparted such peace and reliance to me. That, on Friday, 6/17/16, Dave and two of his crew came to my home and installed my central air system. The professionalism, understanding, and care that was shown made us realize that there are still decent, honest tradesmen around, who are not out to deceive others despite the lack of knowledge we have of the different trade source we do have need for. I will always refer to, rely on, and trust Dave for future help and advise of his professionalism, knowledge, honesty, and most of all the care he imparts for others. Thanks guys!!!!

We had an emergency situation with our hot water heater that they resolved very quickly. They were prompt, knowledgeable, had great communication through the process of what turned out to be a very big job. They really took care of us. We immediately hired them to take care of a routine maintenance job as well. They were great.

I spoke with Gabriel over the phone and he sent out his technician, Luis for the job. Luis was courteous and had the job completed in less time than I thought it would take and at a price much less than other quotes I received. I highly recommend Air Quality.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

  • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
  • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
  • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
  • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
    • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
  • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
    • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
  • Your home has humidity problems.
  • Your home has excessive dust.
    • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
  • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
    • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
  • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
    • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.
