I have always been relatively good at math. I remember being told from middle school and high school years that I pick up concepts faster than my peers by my instructors (and also by the humble college professors). However, college professors can be and are usually a different beast altogether. Mr. A was very helpful/flexible in scheduling time with me to review concepts with me and restoring the confidence in my mathematical abilities which had gone away thanks to professors who do not grasp math anxiety. In fact, as a result of his tutoring (despite tests still being a point to work on) I am able to tutor college classmates in basic college algebraic concepts. I am looking forward to addressing the issues of increase in speed for test taking and math anxiety with him in future appointments.
I went to Stephanie Rhein for weekly six month sessions tutoring beginners level French as I was planning a vacation in France the summer of 2014 and wanted to be able to communicate some basic phrases, etc I had taken French in 7th and 8th grade only--she was very good at assessing where I was and was very organized and detailed in trying to meet my needs at each session- she has a lot of patience and is clearly fluent and very knowledgeable of the French and other languages. She keeps improving her own skills each summer. I would highly recommend her and would have her as a tutor again if the need arises. Some of my early comprehension came back to me which was helpful--I was able to feel comfortable enough in France to ask questions, understand some French people and helped a lot with directions and in restaurants. It is helpful if you know what your needs are from the beginning as that would assist Stephanie in preparing lessons. She was also flexible if in one session I felt I wanted to put more emphasis on verb tenses we could postpone something else she may have intended to introduce when I felt I needed more time with certain verbs, etc. Hope you try Stephanie Rhein. After many years in private school, I decided to give public school a try. I quickly learned that even in a great school district - with overpopulated classes and overworked teachers - my child was being deprived of the basic tools to build a solid educational foundation. I set out to find someone who could help reinforce these basics that I remember learning that are missing in today’s curriculum. Ms. Judy far exceeded my expectations. From day one, she figured out how to engage my 3rd grader and make learning fun. In fact, she quite often says Ms. Judy taught me this or that...I haven’t heard her say that about her school teacher all year!!! After only 3 sessions, I’m more than pleased. She’s also taken time to communicate with my 3rd grader’s teachers to ensure that she is reinforcing their current curriculum. If you are looking for someone to help your kids build that solid educational foundation, look no further than Ms. Judy!
Jocelyn Kuritsky is a dedicated, creative, patient, and fun teacher - she meets students where they are and works hard to be sure that she is giving students exactly what they need. Jocelyn has many years of experience teaching in different settings. I highly recommend choosing Jocelyn! You will enjoy being her student and you will make a lot of progress too.
Ten years ago, we returned with two sons, then aged 12 and 10, to the United States, where they had been educated till then in overseas international schools. The transition for our older son was particularly difficult. His K-8 Catholic school proved to be a bad fit for his needs, and he was having difficulty in all his classes. Sylvia Winik as tutor and adviser for him proved to be a life-saver. Not only did she immediately establish a great rapport with him, but she went the extra mile in consulting with his teachers and meeting his needs. She also was able, at a crucial point, to help us with the choice of a high school that was a great fit for him and where he prospered. He is now a senior in college and doing very well. Our whole family acknowledges the great contribution Sylvia Winik made to our son's educational success and happiness when he most needed support.
