BEFORE EVENT I had a FANTASTIC experience working with Chef Kev, and I'll try my best to do justice to his services through this review (I don't think it's possible!). I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND him to anyone searching for an easy-going caterer who is attentive, accommodating, customer-service oriented and who takes control of the event to completely relieve them of any stress related to food/catering/kitchen. I accidentally came across Thumbtack while looking for certain supplies for my event. Once I realized that I could search for caterers, I thought I'd give it a try. Chef Kev was the first caterer to respond with a detailed menu based on my description of the event (3 or so others responded to ask me for more info without making ANY attempt to use what I had already provided in my initial description!!) . His proposal was well-thought out and it was clear that he had paid attention to my description and came up with a customized menu on such basis. It took me a day to respond to him because I was certain that it wasn't possible for the first proposal to be EXACTLY what I had in mind and even better than what I imagined. After having analysed the menu several times :-), and there was still nothing to change, I wrote Chef Kev. We had a call to discuss the proposal. Chef Kev was very accommodating as we worked through the proposal (I increased my initial count and added a couple of dishes) and discussed day-of logistics (e.g., I wanted the mac-n-cheese passed around in martini cups, wanted the food served in chafing dishes, etc.). MENU The food was fantastic!!! Everyone enjoyed it and they had seconds and thirds... A number of guests took to-go plates and I had some of the leftovers for breakfast :) Here's what was served: 1. BBQ salmon bites w/ malibu-rum ginger smashed sweet potatoes 2. Mesquite mini burger sliders 3. Oven roasted vegetables w/herb ranch aioli 4. BBQ sweet-n-spicy beef bites 5. Teriyaki turkey meatballs 6. Vegetable pasta w/ sautéed vegetables in a sundried tomato dressing 7. Scampi black tiger broiled shrimp & parmesan cheese grits 8. Caribbean jerk chicken party wings 9. Jumbo lump red pepper mac-n-cheese EVENT DAY I had initially wanted a caterer to drop-off the food, but decided to have one of Chef Kev's servers stay for the event, and that was the best decision EVER!! I had completely underestimated how much I would have had to do given that my event had many moving pieces. Chef Kev and his assistant Kim were FANTASTIC the day of the event and I couldn't have asked for a better team. When Chef Kev noticed that I had a lot of moving pieces and balls in the air (translation: slight event-day chaos), so he took control and decided to stay longer than we had discussed in order to make sure that things started off well and were running smoothly before leaving his assistant to run the rest of the event. I literally worried about nothing -- Chef Kev handled things efficiently and with a high degree of professionalism. In fact, at some point, Chef Kev sent his assistant with a plate for me...without that, I may not have ever gotten around to eating!! This is just one example of the types of light touches Chef Kev made throughout the planning and execution of the event which made my experience with him deserving of the five stars. His level of customer service was outstanding and my guests loved him, and several people asked me for his contact information.
Chef Chris Spear is in one word, amazing. If I didn't limit myself to one word, I'd also add in: incredible, talented, entertaining, knowledgeable, friendly, intelligent, thoughtful, creative, and brilliant. My wife and I just had our third son a month prior, and it was her birthday and we were not able to go out and celebrate due to the wonderful chaos of having a new little one tethered to mom. Chris was able to bring more than just the restaurant experience to us with this incredible service he provides. We learned new cooking techniques, flavor combinations, recipes that are easy for weekly meal making with little-to-no time, and more. As advertised, Chris brought everything: the ingredients, the dishes, the serving ware, the napkins and place settings; EVERYTHING. And then he took it all home with him. Chris spent almost a solid 5 hours with us and never made us feel rushed or hurried throughout the whole experience. He explained all his dishes, discussed the ingredients with us, gave us his perspective and thoughts on the dish, all while giving us stories about his own personal life and family and how he got to where he is today. He clearly loves what he does and it shows through on the food. My wife and I cannot wait to remake the dishes, and have already started looking at new cookware that Chris recommended. Chris even gave us links and recommendations for recipes that were not part of the meal experience we had signed up for. Chris clearly cares about the food and experience first, which is beyond refreshing and hopefully what helps set him above other chefs. We have told both of our entire families and friends about this experience and could not recommend Chris more. I hope people believe us and take the opportunity to have a similarly amazing experience with Chris. Ours was truly a great experience, and for that, the least we can do is say THANK YOU to Chef Chris!
Chef Serg was Incredible, he did the best anniversary dinner for my wife and me. He was on time and quickly went to work creating and adding different things to make this a night to remember. He gave us some insight on how he came to where he is now. His preparations were neat and plated very colorful, WOW the food tasted so great!! Chef Serg was money well spent. 5 stars is not enough for him. I definitely recommend him for any occasion... I will be using him again, also very affordable. Check the reviews they never lie........
Simply put, Chef Jackie Johnson is incredible. My wife and I along with another couple had Chef Jackie come to our home for a cooking lesson. Throughout the lesson, she was attentive toward all of us, gave us each individualized attention, and created an atmosphere that was engaging, fun, casual, and educational all at the same time. Her personality is very upbeat and you can tell in a matter of minutes that she is passionate about engaging and teaching others. As someone that is an above average cook, it was great to have Jackie teach me additional techniques and have a dialogue on cooking topics that I was most interested in. At the same time, the other couple were more novice in the kitchen, and she was easily able to shift how she spoke to make sure everyone could understand their task and reasons for the specific approach to cooking. Chef Jackie is authentic in her approach, provides excellent communication during the lesson, and gives you an experience that you will surely remember. Oh, and the came out fantastic. I highly recommend Chef Jackie to anyone in the Northern Virginia area who either wants to take a private lesson in their home, or wants to host a small dinner party and would like to have a chef prepare the meal in full. Thank you Chef for a wonderful experience, a great lesson, and empowering us to create great food!
Scott is fantastic and continually goes above and beyond. We planned our 25 person wedding weekend entirely from out of town, and couldn't have done it without Scott. From our first emails and Skype conversations, Scott made us feel heard and cared for -- something we definitely did not feel from the other four chefs we met with. He provided clear menu options and helped tailor the perfect selections, including accommodating our halal and vegetarian guests. Months later, our guests are still raving about the meal Scott prepared and entire experience he delivered. Beyond catering the evening, Scott and his team helped us evaluate the venue, find and acquire the linens & place settings, pick out & deliver flowers, and purchase food for the rest of the weekend. We highly recommend Scott as both a chef and as a trusted advisor with a big heart.
Where do I begin?! The food is amazing! The service is very professional. The menu is a wide variety. I had an event, the food was hot and ready to be served. I will definitely be calling Grub Studio again!
I was asked to complete the task of finding a caterer for breakfast for a corporate meeting of 80 people within 4 days and to have them deliver the food before 6am. Thomas Franklin at Columbia Chef Catering was the 3rd business I had spoke to regarding my function. He was so pleasant and when he said yes to the 5:30am drop off I was sold!! Thank you so much for all of your assistance in making our function so much more pleasurable.
Chef Kimmy was very response to working with us even though we were putting together this party from Florida. She was on time and the food was excellent.
Enjoyed a wonderful sampling of foods from this caterer. I had never tasted such delicacies as Boolanee before; what a treat! Chef Nasrin is as pleasant as she is talented and her food is everything you hope it will be and more.
Working with Daniel of F&Btainment by Daniel was a wonderful experience from start to finish. He arrives early to prepare the most beautiful set up with lights, fresh juices, and all necessary equipment. He takes care of all aspects of set up and clean up. His drinks are amazing---our guests kept commenting on how much they loved the specialty drinks (especially his Orange Crush). He transformed the bar at my home into a beautiful masterpiece of lights, displays, etc---great attention to detail and presentation. He was able to serve almost 40 guests for 5 hours and not one person was standing around waiting for a drink. He worked tirelessly to make sure everyone was taken care of and remaining in a festive spirit. He is professional, talented, and amazing to work with. I would hire him over and over again.....best we have ever worked with!!!
Sandra was fantastic! I hired her to prepare a gluten-free plated dinner for my parents' 60th birthday party - 6 adults and 2 preschoolers. She was pleasant to work with and efficient as we went back and forth on details and logistics. On the day of the event, she arrived with all the materials she needed and got right to work. My family was able to hang out and enjoy each other's company as Sandra cooked, set the table, plated and served the food, and cleaned up afterwards. And the food was fantastic! My sister-in-law raved about the flourless chocolate cake with vanilla bean whipped cream, "this is the dessert I didn't know I was waiting for my whole life!" Everyone really enjoyed the cuban salad with avocado and chicken enchiladas with mexican style rice and tomatillo salsa. And there were even leftovers! When Sandra left, the kitchen was nice and tidy and all the leftovers were labeled and put away in the fridge. What sets Sandra apart is her thoughtfulness: I really appreciated that she made sure everything was gluten free and even tested the recipe out ahead of time! She brought activity kits for the preschoolers. And she brought placemats and napkin rings as well.
I have taken multiple classes with Ms. Manjiri and every single time she has done an awesome job. The food that she teaches to cook is quick and easy to make and at the same time healthy and delicious. She is professional and very friendly. Prior to the class she has everything set up and ready to go. She walks through the steps patiently and then I get to be hands on. Added benefit is that all the food is sent home so I don't have to cook for a couple of days :). Highly recommended.

I cannot tell you how many people have said this was one of the best receptions they had been to. The food was excellent and beautifully presented as I knew it would be after attending the tasting. I am so happy to write this review for the excellent service provided by Mary. Mary is not only a great professional chef; but she is also enthusiastic about her cooking and takes the time to understand her clients needs. I must add that she is a wonderful person to interact with. Food plays an integral part of my family's day; and I have no hesitations knowing Mary has prepared our meal! I know when I open the package containing the food prepared by her, I'll be in for a delicious treat!! I wish Mary all the best and will continue to work with her for nutritious and delicious meals.
Not enough good things to say about Iyea! We hired her for our cooking needs over a period of 5 days. Eight of us flew into Baltimore for a convention and rented a house. She was very flexible and responsive throughout the process. She came early in the morning to prepare breakfast. While we ate breakfast she prepared our lunches to-go, then returned again to prepare dinner. One of the nights we had a spontaneous party of 40, and she went to Costco and handled it like a champ! She did all our shopping and majority of the clean-up as well. Her prices are incredible reasonable and her food was delicious, she has the home cooked family feel in her cooking. Thank you Iyea for feeding our souls :)
After emailing and texting each other for a while, and specifically after being screwed by Sugar J's Specialty Cakes & Decor who was not communicative and informed me 40days before my wedding, and only after my attempt to communicate with them (wife and husband) for almost 3 weeks that they could not make my cake, I have a lovely experience with Rosa, Process was smooth, a real professional. We reconnected and spoke for about 2 days, came to an agreement on price, we met for cake tasting, she is professional and friendly, most importantly, she cakes were very delicious. She advised me with design and sizes, it made perfect sense, and I cannot wait to see my wedding cake and I am already highly recommending her. Thank you Rosa

Chef relates to young people exceptionally well and conveys, and expects an extremely high standard for dignity, respect and excellence both in and out of the kitchen, As a chef, Julian creates truly exceptional culinary creations that are well founded in traditional American cooking but at the same time are modern, creative and innovative.
I can not express how thrilled I was with the service, food and attentiveness that came from Key Ingredients and Jose. I threw a 40th Surprise party in our home for my husband with a guest list of 60 adults and 20 children. I requested a latin cuisine which turned out beautifully. Everyone was impressed with the food and the service was seamless down to the small details of decorating the house with tea light candles. The staff passed Hors D'oeuvres and guests were not without food. My husband was so happy with every detail of the party and I would absolutely use Key Ingredients again and refer them to our friends and family. Thank you Jose for making this special event a great success.
Best value you could get in a wedding catering company! Quick basic info on my wedding since yours might be different: Late May wedding in Maryland, 7-hour reception with cocktail hour and dinner, approx. 100 guests, Manor, garden & tented reception setting, buffet dinner including a mix of food and drinks representing the cultures of the bride & groom (salvadoran, thai, new orleans, baltimore). Just two days after our wedding day I am feeling so good about the decision we made in booking Top of the City Catering. Maribel and her team were absolutely fantastic and we received soooo many compliments on our food, desserts, and cocktails, which were all provided by Top of the City. They had also done a great job of setting up décor for the guest tables, around the venue, and for the buffet and bar areas. In addition, the service throughout the day and night was phenomenal and we (bride & groom) always felt taken care of. For planning, we wanted a rustic, elegant feeling and they did a great job of presenting us ideas that were aligned with our vision. Top of the City Catering is a smaller catering business, but that does not make it any less in quality. When we were first looking into Top of the City I was a little leery because it was much more affordable and it usually is said, "You get what you pay for," but in this case that was NOT true at all. Maribel and her team are very responsive in communication, are very open and welcoming to your ideas and direction, and will always give suggestions from their expertise but still respect your wishes should you want something different. I really hope that Top of the City will gain momentum in growing its business and gaining the respect it deserves. Don't let the size of the company distract you from the amazing service, quality of food, flexibility, and affordable price you will get from Top of the City catering. Taheerah designed, prepared and executed a personal brunch for our family the day after Christmas. The menu was relaxed, had comfort food like baked maccaroni & cheese, the best breakfast biscuits we've ever had and chicken sausage gravy but she brought a level of refinement by serving a fresh spinach frittata, prawns in a light sauce and a special apple nectar for our mimosas. The flavor was more than we had expected and we expected a lot based on previous menus that we've had with Taheera. This was beyond. We were able to unwind after a busy holiday season in the comfort of our own home. Taheerah's ability to bring out our favorite taste's in ways that we didn't expect has been surprising and so wonderful. She has figured out how to achieve the perfect balance of quality, custom dishes and still her own signature is unmistakable. Not wanting to post this review because we want to keep her a secret but truly, she is the best!
Justin was friendly and responsive, and was very helpful in creating a wonderful menu for my husband's 40th birthday party at our home. I am vegetarian, so he made sure all the sides were veg-friendly and filling for me, while also being delicious for everyone else. He was communicative during the day of the event, and showed up on time (a little early even!), set everything up, and even surprised us with some delicious red velvet cake shooters, that went along nicely with our cake. I think one of my sons ate four of them! Everyone loved the food and complimented everything--I made sure to tell them all where it came from! I wanted a stress-free party with great food, and Justin made that possible! Thank you for helping to make it a wonderful night for everyone, especially my husband!
