I had a nasty backed up toilet due to a sewer main blockage. I had called another plumber earlier that week said they could do the work that friday, never called and then when my toilet started backing up from sewage on Saturday was no where to be found. So my friend suggested that I tried thumbtack and I put in an estimate. Within 12 minutes Julian had responded with a estimate. I called him Julian came within 15 minutes of me calling since he was in the neighborhood. This was a saturday afternoon no less. He did the messy work for snaking out line in about 2 hours. He laid down plastic sheeting to protect my hardwood floors. Took off my toilet and then brought in a machine to snake my line. It took a while to clear the blockage but he was patient and got the job done. Since the toilet and line was backed up, there was raw sewage on the floor of my bathroom which was really nasty. I will admit that I was a little nervous as he was working as the machine created a pretty big mess. However, he did an amazing job of cleaning up when he was done and now the it doesn't even look like anything happened. He's very professional, prompt at communication, and fairly priced. He stands by his work as he gave me a 2 week guarantee in case the line needs to be snaked again. I would definitely use him again or recommend him to anyone else.

Same day service and they were able to take care of the problem (clogged sanitary sewer drain) quickly and waaayyyy less expensive than a company that only does plumbing. Definitely recommend!

Great work with same day service. My drain was clogged and I was looking for a fast reasonable priced repair. They were easy to work with and responded quickly to my messages. I would happily use them again.

James did excellent work replacing a gas hose and turning it into gorgeous black pipes under our water heater. He also helped diagnose what we thought was a clogged drain - it was just the sewage catch thingie. Thank you James!

Yovany showed up early and was very helpful, identified a plumbing vent line that was backwards and he rerouted it, which helped a slow drain issue. He replaced the main water shutoff with a ball valve and tied the washer wastewater line into the sewer line, which was previously emptying into an open drain. He also demoed an old, large and heavy stone industrial sink that was leaking. Would call him again for any plumbing issues and recommend to anyone needing plumbing work completed. Reasonably priced.

Hired them to cap and bypass a cracked sewer line. Where do I start... Work Quality: A+ All changes to code, sloped correctly (I checked), mounted properly. Professionalism: A+: Articulate, clear, concise and polite!! Responsiveness: A+: Easy to get hold of, responsive via both phone and email. Value: A+: Best price among licensed plumbers in Maryland. Punctuality: A+ Arrived within 6 minutes of promised time. Cleanliness: A+: they covered all floors, wore booties at all times (I didn't ask, they just did). Once the initial engagement was complete, I hired them again 2 days later with expanded scope to the work to include relocating our laundry sink, repairing/relocating laundry sink drain, adding a rough-in for a radon mitigation system, relocate ice maker feeder line & bypass valve. Their work and professionalism is simply amazing given the 20 or so plumbers I talked to in finding someone that can help us and provide us good value. It just doesn't get better than this.

Overall I received outstanding service at a fair price. Daud offered a ballpark quote via the app, and then an exact number in person with his brother Hamaas. The exact number was about the ball park estimate. Hamaas requested to start the Next day and met me at a local Home Depot at 7 am-He said 7 am and was there at 7 am sharp. The job was to install a bathtub with the drain and overflow, install a new mixing valve and move a toilet flange 2-4 inches (so it wasn't too close to the tub). At Home Depot Hamaas demonstrated his expertise in plumbing, by selecting the material necessary to get the job done. The tasks were a little complicated, as there were pvc pipes to cut and add too, along with copper to cut and solder in. Hamaas gathered the materials and we were on our way. Once at my home, Hamaas made quick work of the project. He worked nonstop 8am till 230pm. He did an outstanding job. As with any project there were some hiccups that were discovered along the way. Hamaas addressed these issues with ease. Overall these guys are great. They are now my plumbers. Skip the lowball offers. These guys have that old fashioned work ethic and quote a fair rate for a highly skilled worker who gets the job done quickly and right. They left this customer completely satisfied.

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for Mr. Patrick Wilson. Thank you for you prompt service in repairing the sink problem in our kitchen and the replacement of the two toilets in our lavatory. You came on time and worked with us on the different situation of locating access to the pipes as well as addressing our concern with the pricing of the job. You were able to set our mind at easy. As always, your work was impeccable. I will recomend you to all of my friends, family and work associates. Thanks.

Mike provided a quote within minutes of my request for service, which I didn't expect, because I posted around 7 am. Mike arrived in the time frame promised, and got right to work. The drain clog put up a serious fight, but the job got done, with a minimum amount of clean-up. I would call Mike (Drain Sight) again, and recommend company for drain clog/plumbing issues. S. Moore

Martin has become like part of our family. He has been helping me for over 6 years now and has always been there in times of emergency as well. He is kind, trustworthy, and extremely capable. The types of things he has helped me with include things like Painting, Plumbing (toilets/drains), Furniture Assembly, and General Fixing. One example of his amazing service is when I had a large party planned at my house and lots of house guests. My main floor toilet crashed that day - Martin stopped what he was doing and picked up a new toilet for me at Lowes and had it installed before anyone knew it. I trust Martin enough that I even allow him to work in my home when I'm not there. I can not recommend Martin enough - as a single mom, I don't know what I would have done without him!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.

Follow these additional tips for confidently hiring a plumber or other skilled professional.
