I needed a handyman to install a few curtain rods, washroom mirrors and door stoppers. Neil responded my requests on Thumbtack quickly. The day before the job, he asked for pictures of our my wall and curtain rods to prepare his tools for the job. In addition to the job, he even gave me suggestions for some problems that I had to fix in the home and sent me pictures of the tools that I would need on the same day. Overall, Neil is very responsible and professional. I had an excellent experience working with him, and would recommend him.

Sam hung a chandelier in my dining room and adjusted a shelf in my kitchen. He helped me measure and plan for drapery hardware. He was prompt, courteous and professional. I plan to have him come back to install the drapery hardware once i have it and also I plan to have him work on another project on my balcony. I highly recommend Sam.

Joe did a great and quick job! Very easy to get in touch with for scheduling, and was great about communicating arrival time (he was able to arrive earlier than scheduled - bonus!) We had some VERY old outlets and switches (read: years of being painted over, stripped screws, etc.) but he was able to install the new hardware in under an hour. Pricing was very competitive, and worth every penny - would definitely hire Joe again!

Edward did an excellent job in installing an Aprilaire 600 central humidifier in our home in Andover, MA. He was professional, courteous and very knowledgeable about the job. His quote was competitive and he got the job done in a few hours. Edward routed all the cables and pipes neatly and even went to the extra extent to add silicone on the external wall for the outside sensor so that the house remains sealed.

All great. However conflicting opinions between techs. One tech said we had a problem and the repair tech who fixed it said there was no problem.

Highly recommend. Lewis was able to find a tech to come out to repair our furnace on a freezing New Years Eve. The tech was ready to come off work but agreed to come out and help us. He went above and beyond to try to repair our furnace. We ended up needing a new part but he came back to install it and again worked very hard and got us our heat back. Very reasonable price as well.

Julien did such an amazing job installing our TV and floating TV stand on a brick wall over our fireplace. The work was clean and functional (installed all wiring, outlets and cable jax, to minimize wires and accessibility). When working with Julien through Thumbtack he was so kind and responsive and extremely flexible with our schedules. We had a few people come over to quote us on the work that needed to be done and he was by far the most qualified, professional and truly the nicest person (always a nice perk!). Also, I appreciate how efficiently he cleaned up after the job, really speaks to his professionalism. I would definitely hire him again for additional electrician work or any other unique product. Thats the great part he really is a jack of all trades. Thank you Julien! We love what you have done to our place :)

Wagner was very responsive during communication and punctual in keeping his appointment. The job took longer than anticipated, due to locating a part needed for the repair. He did not provide a receipt.

CSB plumbing installed a new sink, drain, and oven. Chris was quick to respond to all my texts and calls. He was incredibly knowledgeable and able to answer all my questions. My husband and I were THRILLED with his work. He could have overcharged us and done more work and did not. This guy is awesome. He is our forever plumber. I will be giving my tenants his number to call him. I HIGHLY recommend him. I had gone through two plumbers prior and nightmare experiences. I have a weight lifted off my chest now that I met him.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
