Many thanks to Mark Wilson Images for braving the chill and threatening rain to photograph our city hall wedding. He captured some great moments that I know we will cherish for years to come.

Mark was great to work with for our wedding reception in Boston! He communicated well via email and phone prior to the event. He was open to our music suggestions, took some requests from our guests, and kept a nice flow throughout the night. Our guests definitely danced and had a good time! He also was great with some last-minute requests and changes to programming just before the wedding day as well.

We hired Gladys for a simple, small wedding in the Boston Public Garden. She offered great ideas during the planning process, which was very helpful. Most importantly, her professionalism, passion, and considerateness made the whole process so much easier. Thank you Gladys.

We first met Bob when he photographed our wedding, 16 1/2 years ago! He did a fantastic job then - especially great at candid photos, and made everyone feel comfortable and at ease. We have many beautiful, artistic shots from that day. We had an outdoor ceremony, and indoor reception, and he was comfortable with both settings…even shots on the beach. When looking for someone to take some photos at our older son's Bar Mitzvah, I thought immediately of Bob and tracked him down! He took photos of that day for us, too. Always very professional, great at what he does, and especially great at getting in the "action" and getting that shot. We highly recommend him!

Can I rate more than five stars?!?! I cannot express how absolutely amazing Jeremiah is! He was the glue that kept my wedding together. He is an AWESOME photographer, but at the same time was more than willing to help us get our stuff together the day of, whether it was a stuck zipper on a bridesmaid's dress or by making me laugh when I was stressed before the ceremony. This gent (and the rest of his team, of course) just blew me away!!

Event has not yet occurred, but I am looking forward to a great experience. Mike is very professional on the phone, and has a great selection of extras to make the event extra fun. Mike's service offers online scheduling of events that can be revised at any time. He also has online music library to hand select the playlist. I love this feature.

Tiffany did an absolutely amazing job. Had my trial with her and then decided I wanted to change it all two days before the wedding. She did so without ever missing a beat! She is fun to work with and makes you feel super comfortable! She’s such an amazing talent! I never felt as beautiful in my life as I did that day!

We felt imediately comfortable having Julie in our home. She was professional, friendly, efficient and an excellent cook. Enjoyed every morsel she prepared for the tasting prior to our upcoming wedding. We ended up selecting the same menu items we tried at the tasting and are looking forward to seeing Julie again on our wedding day.

Jon was a pleasure to work with, from pre-wedding meetings and planning through our wedding ceremony and reception. He was very professional, and in addition to doing our dinner and reception music, he also helped out with a sound system and support for our ceremony location. He kept all of our guests on the dance floor, and left everyone demanding more music at the end! We would definitely recommend JAG Music & Entertainment for anyone looking for music for their wedding!

Robert is not only tremendously talented and intuitive; he also possesses unique attention to detail. He worked with me in the days leading up to the event, helping me create a playlist that blended the different cultures my husband and I come from. Though Robert was new to Indian music, he did his research and came up with something truly engaging and authentic. I think his flexibility and can-do attitude will serve him well in any multicultural event. Robert is also very good at reading crowds. He knew when to change the tempo and what songs would engage our guests best. Moreover, he was also very sensitive to my Dad during the father-daughter dance. He was able to immediately gauge my father’s emotion, and knew to fade out the song. I am truly touched and impressed by how attuned Robert is to his audience. I thank Robert for helping make our wedding such a memorable and special night.

Working with Christian was an absolute dream. He was there in all moments but never felt intrusive; he has an eye for beautiful moments while making them feel as natural as possible; he works with your comfort level and ensures your happiness. We got a sneak peek back a week after our wedding and the photos are beautiful. We can't wait to see the rest, and highly recommend Christian as a photographer.

It was a pleasure working with Kim. She was so professional and took her role in the ceremony very seriously. She made you feel that everything was being taken care of and you didn't have to worry. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking to have their wedding done by a thoughtful, friendly and caring person. We were so happy with her and the way she made the day so special. Susan was our JP and day of coordinator. She was amazing and went above and beyond her duties for the day. She arrived early the day of the wedding and did last minute things for the reception. She also stayed late after the rehearsal the night before and helped finish some decorations and even helped iron our chair covers. She was such a pleasure to work with and so helpful with everything. She is just amazing!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.
