Neil did an excellent job on our ceiling fan. He is knowledgeable and professional, and could offer advice on the latest Panasonic models. He was very kind and respectful to my 80 year old mother, who supervised the project that afternoon. She felt very safe with him in the house and enjoyed his wit and personality. I recommend Neil to expedite any of your home repair needs. He is a gem!

I initially hired Bob to install a bathroom exhaust fan. While he was there I ended having him also install 2 medicine cabinets with lights on top and repair a doorbell that wasn’t working. He installed and fixed everything and I’m quite happy with his work. I plan to continue using Bob for future electrical work.

Great job done by Marvis and team. Quick and efficient response to quotes and asked all the right questions ahead of the job to make sure he could get the supplies needed to fix our leaky laundry shutoff valve and install new appliances (washer on pedestal and gas dryer). Would hire him again.

Bob was on-time, professional, and worked hard on trying to diagnose the problem with my refrigerator. Unfortunately, my fridge was beyond repair, but Bob was honest and did not do any additional work without consulting me.

they didn't do anything other than walk in my home, look at the model number on my fridge, and leave...other than charge me $109. they never even tried. I've reached out to them multiple times and offered numerous solutions. they have been nothing if not dismissive, bordering on rude. this is the first bad experience I have has with thumbtack, but because new England filter and repair scammed me, I will not be using it again.

Hard to find professionals that good and that honest! Came over quickly assessed the problem and gave me a clear and honest estimate to fix it with a list of possible risks. His service call was also extremely fair! Unfortunately the risk and cost to repair the washer (full bearing and gasdgets on a 14 years old machine) would not have made much sense compared to buy a new one, so I decided to buy a new one. I would have proceeded with him if the repair would have been simpler and would definitely call him for future needs.

Excellent experience working with Jason. He was able to troubleshoot a leak under my LG dishwasher and make a simple repair by replacing 2 screws that had stripped out and not just replacing the entire pump. Refreshing to find a person that will actually make a repair and not just replace a complete part. Great experience.

I was frightened and apprehensive about the day my furnace would decide to go to the furnace Cemetery. Well that day happened on Friday October 13th. The furnace clearly malfunctioned and I was forced to replace it. On that very same day I use Thumbtack to locate a technician, in less than 72 hours I had been contacted by Mike at TopKnotch, had an appointment scheduled and had a brand new furnace and thermostat installed. It was absolutely painless, definitely affordable, and literally one of the most positive experiences I have ever had with a home repair.

My tech was not only professional and knowledgable but didn't try and sell me anything I didn't need. I had several things fixed including a washer pump and I was very pleased with the quality of work performed. In comparison to some of the other guys - I felt I got the best value for the services performed. Appliance repair can be expensive, these guys are fair.

10 our of 10, would recommend! Super nice guy. He knew exactly what he was doing and explained everything so I understood what was going on. The only thing that could have made my experience better was if my fridge didn’t betray me and need to be replaced. Even so, he offered some advice about which new ones to avoid. I would definitely hire him again.

They were great. Responded very quickly. Diagnosed my fridge and fixed it within 3 hours and that's including leaving and getting parts. They even looked at our washing machine that was leaking and fixed it!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
