My experience has far exceeded my expectations. I've been taking guitar lessons here for over a year and I could not be happier. Robert is a true professional. His lesson plan is well thought out and I feel like he tailored it just for me. He has an incredible knack of knowing what I can achieve week to week. He is a patient and knowledgeable teacher and truly a master of the instrument in any genre. For me, he has demystified making music. I can't believe the progress I have made. If you want a safe, clean environment to really learn and play music, I highly recommend Gallagher's Music.

I've been playing guitar for 40+ years, and my 13 year old daughter now reads music (I don't) and finger picks (I don't) after a couple months with Scott. He's a great teacher.

Alec does so well with my daughter. She sometimes likes to try and do her own thing and instead of pushing her to always focus, which isn't always an easy task for a child, he'll at times encourage her free play to get it out and then she's back to wanting to learn. She very much enjoys going because he makes it a fun learning experience. She sounds better each time going so the improvement is astounding. I really appreciate how good Alec is with her and I've already recommended this place to friends based simply on how incredible he is.

Our daughter loves the guitar again thanks to Alexander! He has a great teaching style. We used to push her to practice before, but now she picks up the guitar on her own and can't wait for her next lesson because of her instructor. Glad we found him!

My 12-year-old daughter had been wanting a guitar for a while, so I got her one for her birthday. After a couple days of watching online videos about how to play, she seemed to lose interest. I guess it was too complicated, or boring, for her. I decided to try to find her a teacher, which is how Brian became my daughter’s guitar teacher. This has turned out to be the best decision. Brian’s teaching techniques are excellent. He knew right away how to keep my daughter interested in playing, without her getting bored. From the very beginning he started teaching her to play her favorite song. That made a big difference in my daughter’s motivation to practice. To my great surprise, she started to practice on her own at least one hour every day. Brian integrates guitar playing techniques (which can get boring) with playing songs, both at the same time. I think this is an excellent approach, especially for kids. My daughter now looks forward to every lesson. Communication with Brian is wonderful: he is never late, and if something does come up, he always notifies me well in advance. Lessons normally last 30 minutes, but if Brian sees that my daughter needs a little more time, he always stays longer to make sure that she understood everything in the lesson for that day. Margarita

Ken began playing the guitar about 25 years ago. He has found himself in just about every musical situation conceivable. He maintains a busy schedule of teaching, recording and live dates. He performs and composes with his jazz/fusion trio, Slice of Pi, which is currently recording a follow-up to their debut CD. He also performs with rock group Merge. Over the years, Ken has performed with a wide range of artists and bands. He has also been involved in studio recording projects and commercial music and has written guitar method books, addressing improvisation and theory for the guitar. Ken frequently hosts clinics, demonstrating technique and theory. He studied jazz and classical guitar at Wayne State University and theory and composition at Oakland University. Ken studied under acclaimed guitar legends Joe Fava and Paul Abler. Currently, Ken teaches theory and guitar instruction privately. Some of his many influences include jazz, fusion, rock, funk, classical, progressive, and world music. Several notable musicians were key in Ken's development such as John Coltrane, J.S. Bach, Shawn Lane, Frank Zappa, Joe Satriani, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, and Miles Davis. Ken is a reputable guitar instructor, college educated, and professional musician. He has made teaching and performing music not only as a passion, but also as a career.

I offer lessons on guitar (nylon string, steel string or electric), voice, piano and songwriting/composition. I have a formal music training from Wayne State University, and I am also available to play music at parties and events.

I am a double bassist and bass guitarist in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. I recently completed my MM in improvisation at the University of Michigan and received my BM in music performance from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 2010. I have extensive experience in many styles, including classical, jazz, rock, folk, klezmer, Balkan, metal, and more. I have led many ensembles and have recorded and toured as a sideman for folk and indie artists. My primary areas of performance are contemporary classical music and improvised music that pushes the boundaries of what music can be. I have a passion for the history of music and am comfortable working within many idioms in order to give students a foundational basis to build from. As a teacher, I am excited to work with students to find the music they really love to play and help them delve into what matters most to them. The primary goal is to be able to make music that is as rewarding as possible. I am happy to work with students on orchestra repertoire, jazz standards, and any other prescribed material but would also work on composing original music, improvising, and expressing what is meaningful to them as individuals. The bass is an unlimited instrument -- no style is unavailable to you!

If your reading this chances are you are interested in learning to play guitar, which is fantastic! But beware, choosing the wrong teacher to study with will be detrimental to your progress as a musician. Many instructors tend to use a "responsive" teaching method, which will eventually bring you to a dead end in your progress. We find that using a "proactive" method pushes our students (which could be you!) to excel at a rapid pace. In order to achieve this we first find out what the student hopes to achieve as a guitar/bass player, and then create a structured lesson plan to help get them there. The goal here is to make you the best guitarist you can be, and to make sure you have a great time doing it!
