Extremely talented professionals are instructors here - Tom Starr well known throughout the Midwest as a fine percussionist, as well as quality instructors in strings, piano, guitar and horns.. This store treats their professionals with dignity and compensates them accordingly so students get the best quality music education. The owner, Brian, is a performing professional, as well, with a quality education and background in performance. Finally.......a quality teaching facility

My experience has far exceeded my expectations. I've been taking guitar lessons here for over a year and I could not be happier. Robert is a true professional. His lesson plan is well thought out and I feel like he tailored it just for me. He has an incredible knack of knowing what I can achieve week to week. He is a patient and knowledgeable teacher and truly a master of the instrument in any genre. For me, he has demystified making music. I can't believe the progress I have made. If you want a safe, clean environment to really learn and play music, I highly recommend Gallagher's Music.

I have been taking guitar lessons from Michael for a few months to a half a year now. He is an exceptional teacher who is dedicated to helping you learn the things you want to, but also willing to go through and tell you what you need to hear in order to progress as a musician. I have been playing guitar for six years, and Michael has the expertise that is required of a good teacher to be able to help students who have just begun, and students who are much more experienced. A pleasant experience is always to be expected when you take lessons with Michael, and every week I eagerly await my lessons.

Have had two bass lessons with John so far. He is a good teacher - very knowledgeable, good listener, and patient. He has a good way of helping learn technique as well as helping work on songs too. Highly recommend!

I've been taking guitar lessons from Erik Blundell for about 4 years now.  I started with Erik after observing him teach guitar to my 11 year old daughter.  I was impressed by how patient he was and his willingness to answer (and re answer) any question.  Erik has an amazing knowledge of guitar, both electric and acoustic (bass also! and probably more instruments I don't know about).  He also has real world experience playing live gigs and can help with questions and advice about playing a live show. Erik has a well trained "guitar ear" and constantly amazes me with his ability to whip out the complete guitar tab for most any song.  He is also able to tailor the tab so that you're able to play it at your own level - easy at first, then move advanced when you're able.   Erik can teach both musical guitar theory if you want or how to just jam freestyle to any song you like. His style is very casual and he tries to make every lesson fun and exciting!  I have learned a lot from Erik over the past couple of years and I would highly recommend him as a private guitar instructor.

I've been playing guitar for 40+ years, and my 13 year old daughter now reads music (I don't) and finger picks (I don't) after a couple months with Scott. He's a great teacher.

My husband had been wanting to take lessons and we tried a few teachers until we chanced on Mike. Mike responded to our initial email immediately and we started our lessons. We are now a few months in, and have a long term relationship. He is punctual as well as flexible, something that makes him invaluable. My husband has progressed at a great pace and he loves the instruction he gets from Mike. We look forward to years of learning with Mike

Our daughter loves the guitar again thanks to Alexander! He has a great teaching style. We used to push her to practice before, but now she picks up the guitar on her own and can't wait for her next lesson because of her instructor. Glad we found him!

When I first went to James, I had a minimal experience with guitar playing. I only knew the basic notes and chords but not much else. The progress I made with James was amazing. I think what made his teaching style so effective was a perfect blend of teaching me the songs I wanted to learn while still taking time to teach me the fundamentals and methodology necessary to truly understand guitar playing. James really helped me become a better musician. Years later, I still refer back to his tips and lesson notes as a source of learning. He made such an impact on me that we still make it a point to keep in touch from half way across the country, even after all these years.

Great work by Mike. Sat and talked about what my goals were as a guitar player and put a plan to accomplish it. Very open to ideas and main thing is that he listened. Easy going but has the knowledge to help me get to the next level.

Bryan is a great teacher! He's great for beginners, and also for anyone who's got some experience but is looking to increase their overall knowledge. He's super easy to get along with, and taught me a lot about songwriting and how a guitar works within a band.

Ken began playing the guitar about 25 years ago. He has found himself in just about every musical situation conceivable. He maintains a busy schedule of teaching, recording and live dates. He performs and composes with his jazz/fusion trio, Slice of Pi, which is currently recording a follow-up to their debut CD. He also performs with rock group Merge. Over the years, Ken has performed with a wide range of artists and bands. He has also been involved in studio recording projects and commercial music and has written guitar method books, addressing improvisation and theory for the guitar. Ken frequently hosts clinics, demonstrating technique and theory. He studied jazz and classical guitar at Wayne State University and theory and composition at Oakland University. Ken studied under acclaimed guitar legends Joe Fava and Paul Abler. Currently, Ken teaches theory and guitar instruction privately. Some of his many influences include jazz, fusion, rock, funk, classical, progressive, and world music. Several notable musicians were key in Ken's development such as John Coltrane, J.S. Bach, Shawn Lane, Frank Zappa, Joe Satriani, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, and Miles Davis. Ken is a reputable guitar instructor, college educated, and professional musician. He has made teaching and performing music not only as a passion, but also as a career.

I teach guitar through methods of natural rhythm and the cognitive thinking process, allowing students to learn the way they naturally would. I am here to help guide students to their own path.

We offer guitar lessons for all levels. We have over 30 years of experience playing all styles. Whether you want to learn to read music or just learn to shred, we are here to teach you.

I am a double bassist and bass guitarist in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. I recently completed my MM in improvisation at the University of Michigan and received my BM in music performance from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 2010. I have extensive experience in many styles, including classical, jazz, rock, folk, klezmer, Balkan, metal, and more. I have led many ensembles and have recorded and toured as a sideman for folk and indie artists. My primary areas of performance are contemporary classical music and improvised music that pushes the boundaries of what music can be. I have a passion for the history of music and am comfortable working within many idioms in order to give students a foundational basis to build from. As a teacher, I am excited to work with students to find the music they really love to play and help them delve into what matters most to them. The primary goal is to be able to make music that is as rewarding as possible. I am happy to work with students on orchestra repertoire, jazz standards, and any other prescribed material but would also work on composing original music, improvising, and expressing what is meaningful to them as individuals. The bass is an unlimited instrument -- no style is unavailable to you!
