Latest Review: In my experience, I have taken piano lessons for an hour once a week for the past month or so. Walking into Southtown Guitar, both Dean and Jesse are very friendly, and they know you by name. They always make sure to greet you when you come in, and they're always greeting you with a smile. I haven't personally had Dean as a teacher, but I have had Jesse. Jesse's very understanding when it comes to me not being able to practice a lot because of school work and other things that come up, and he's also very patient with me. During the lesson he answers my questions, and tries to help me understand. After the lesson they write down all that I need to do to practice that week so that I don't forget. Jesse's also very understanding when you come back saying that you weren't able to practice something because you didn't remember how to do it, and then he gives you a refresher and tries to come up with ways to help you remember it. Overall, Southtown Guitar has met and exceeded my expectations.

Latest Review: I took lessons through Mclain's mind of music for one reason; to learn how to play "Green Hill Zone" on Piano. Thanks to Kevin, I can say that I accomplished that goal (granted, 2 years after he left but you get the idea.) Because Kevin was my teacher, I've moved on to learning a couple other songs as well (although I could always practice more than I do.) When Kevin was giving lessons in Chicagoland he was the most affordable piano lessons, regardless of if it was hourly or half-hour (short of having a piano whiz for a grandparent who would teach you for free, which I do not.) Improve, I guess a couple times he was 5 or 10 minutes late for the appointment, but that's only because he would DRIVE OUT to the kid's house and be stuck in traffic on the way back (which is totally understandable, considering what an excellent musician Kevin is.) If you take one lesson, you'll feel the same. Young or Old, Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced Kevin can teach you how to play.

Latest Review: My son took various private lessons from Zach over the course of a number of years, and it was always a fantastic experience. My son loved every minute of every lesson of every subject and would be continuing yet today if it were possible. But more than that, Zach has become like a part of our family. Lesson days became major social and visiting times. He is a most amazing young man who puts his whole heart into everything he does, and I highly recommend him.

Latest Review: Our daughter has taken piano (and briefly, violin) lessons with Ms. Betz for several years now, starting when she was 4 (she is 8 now). We transferred from another music academy that did not seem to know how to teach young children. We couldn't be more pleased with both the process and the results through Ada Piano Academy. Ms. Betz is very patient and an excellent teacher. She tailors her curriculum to the particular learning styles of her students. Ms. Betz adjusts her teaching as the children mature. With our daughter, for example, Ms. Betz knew just the right time to switch from using little stuffed animals to encourage playing and practice to requiring more self-motivation and responsibility. We are very pleased with the amount of music theory that is included with the lessons, as well as musical education about different genres and musicians. She also allows kids to experiment with different instruments. Ms. Betz is always thinking of fun ways to encourage the kids to practice (like fun holiday practice challenges that can earn a prize), and when they struggle, she thinks of different ways to teach the information they need to learn. She is also always available for questions and offers advice when home practice is a difficult. Ms. Betz offers multiple concerts throughout the year in a very relaxed and non-intimidating atmosphere. She makes the concerts a lot of fun for the kids, including raffles and other entertainment to create an environment where the kids are comfortable and do not get overly nervous about performing (just a healthy dose of butterflies). Ms. Betz is very punctual. Lessons start and end exactly on time. She also allows flexibility in scheduling. Our daughter has developed quite the bond with her, and we are so grateful to have another trusted adult in her life!

Latest Review: Amanda has been my 10 year-old son's piano teacher for over four years. She is knowledgeable, kind, patient, and an overall excellent teacher! He looks forward to his lessons and has improved tremendously. Amanda will build upon his existing genre interests, so that he is always fully engaged. She really is the best piano teacher!
