Great experience! We contacted Bart Sunday night, he responded Monday morning, and by Monday afternoon we had the cabinet floor we needed. Neither of us could be there so Bart kept us in the loop with texts and pictures. Fast worker, excellent product, good communication. We would hire again.

After getting and estimate from a couple of big box stores and then hearing how much they wanted to reface our cabinets I went looking for a custom cabinet builder/installer. Roger's name came up on numerous web site with lots of great reviews along with photos of his work so I contacted him and told him what we had planned to do . After he gave us our estimate (which floored me by the way) being far below the big box stores estimate I told him just to go ahead and gut the kitchen and start from scratch. Roger finished up the job today ( 5 days work) and my wife and I could not be happier. Our kitchen went from mid-70s get by in pinch kitchen to a show case in anyone's book. The oak cabinets have a perfect finish with all European soft close hardware and glass back splash makes the new counter top really stand out. I recommend Roger 100% and I know you will be happy with his work because he is perfectionist.

Chris is the most honest, hardworking and reliable contractor we've worked with. He does fantastic work! He made and installed a new cabinet above our range, oversaw the installation of a new hood and reconfigured our island to accommodate a microwave. He has a great attention for detail and we're planning to hire him for more projects. I highly recommend working with him!

STC built a custom wall unit (cabinets and open shelves) out of Knotty pine for us. I decided to do the install myself, and Chris was very helpful in walking me through how to do it. We had one minor rework on the upper row of cabinets, and Chris took care of it immediately - resized the unit to fit in our space and had it back to me the same day. The finish is perfect, and the install went exactly as he described it should. It looks AWESOME! We are already cooking up ideas for our next project, will definitely use Stop the Clock again!

Siding was replaced due to woodpecker damage in one area, and due to general deterioration in a couple of other areas; and the new siding was painted. In addition to the quality of the work performed, the communication with this organization, and with the handyman performing the work, was excellent. The job was started and completed according to the schedule to which they committed. I highly recommend these folks!

We had to replace a built in oven and the replacement was a different size than the original. The cabinet needed modification so we had Brad look at it and he came up with an excellent solution to the problem. He did the work and it came out perfect. Excellent work

Custom One gave me a fair price and quality work. The built-in cabinet that he built was completed in short amount of time. Dennis was polite and great to work with. I would definitely hire him again.

We hired Peter to build side by side custom desks with cabinets. He did a great job making an effort to fully understand what we wanted and needed out of the project and then gave excellent feedback with some additional ideas. His quality was excellent and his pricing was very reasonable.

A bathroom remodel that included gutting everything except the vanity. Jim and those he works with were in constant contact and kept on track as promised with timing of the project. Jim will help you coordinate all materials with the best merchants to ensure the best price. He has relationships with all of them which ensures best prices possible for countertops, cabinets, tile (including design) as well as labor. We had no idea how to approach a bathrom remodel and knew we didn't want to act as our own general contractor. Hiring Jim to oversee it, helped us get the remodel done quickly, with good quality materials at a lower price than we would probably have been able to realize on our own. The tile installer was incrediblly meticulous. It looks perfect throughout the room from the shower to the bathroom floor and other walls. They took extreme care to keep the area clean and always cleaned up at the end of the day. We won't hesitate to work with Jim and Cady Handyman in the future for other remodeling. We highly recommend Jim.

They helped us pick out cabinets for a Pantry. The quality of the cabinets were top notch, especially for the cost. I would recommend to anyone in need of quality cabinets at a fair price point. The cabinets were through a subsidiary of K2, known as Box Blu.

Eric was absolutely wonderful to work with - I will definitely use him again and also tell others about him. He was able to design a coffee table for us that will go perfectly with our beach house/lake house vibe - he really did an amazing job and it's exactly what we wanted!! His pricing was very reasonable as well for the quality craftmanship - the table is as solid as they come ... Most of our store bought furniture is no where near as sturdy!

Nate built a beautiful pantry cabinet for us and he was very easy to work with. We had one meeting in our home, discussed our requirements and the dimensions we were looking for. We had a couple sample ideas and Nate asked good questions to make sure he knew exactly what we had in mind and made good suggestions that we hadn't considered. The final product is exactly what we were hoping for, including a hard to match the stain color. I would recommend Nate without hesitation for any finish cabinetry or wood working project.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
