I am hiring Shelley to do my wedding make-up. I have only met her during the trial make-up run and I already adore her talent. I can hardly wait for my special day!!!!!!!!!

Derrick was the DJ for our wedding on 12/20/2014. We had a great time at our event, and the dance floor was full throughout the evening. He did a great job of working with us before the event, and played all of the requests from our guest. Derrick was also very helpful in guiding us through the events of the night. I would definitely recommend him for your event.

Courtney took our wedding photos. She did a beautiful job. The only issue we had was actually receiving the photos. It took longer than expected to receive them. That is the only thing that could be improved.

My husband and I needed a last minute photographer for our wedding. We had a beach wedding planned in Florida, but had to change the location a few days before the wedding date due to hurricane Irma. Juliana responded to my Thumbtack inquiry right away and was very responsive. She and her husband shot our small wedding and part of our reception. I've only seen a preview of the pictures, but so far, my husband and I are beyond thrilled with the way they turned out! We couldn't be happier with the way things turned out, even if it wasn't originally planned.

Sharyl Salmonson is amazing!!! She has a way of capturing "the perfect picture!" She is very creative, and uses her artistic background to guide her vision. I love her style of photography; she comes up with the best "poses".... That being said though, some of my all time favorite pictures are the ones we didn't even know were being taken!!! We have hired Sharyl multiple times for family pictures, and the results have always blown me away. I have recommended her to many friends, who have used her, and immediately fell in love. She has such a fun spirit, and is very professional!!

What an amazing day for us! Cheryl wrote our vows to include our children and it was wonderful! She kept up with us throughout the planning process & did everything to make our day special! The best part was seeing our son tear up because he knew that I see him as my own born son! Thank you for everything! You really made our wedding magical! Heath & Megan Gillihan

He did pretty good job, came to my wedding reception on time and delivered photos to me before the expected date. The reception was 2 hours and I got 88 photos which is ok to me, anyway I expected >120. I had about 50 people in the reception and I got photos with all of my guest which make me so happy because I can send pictures to them and thanks them with those photos. I believe Rivera Eye Photography can do better in the next job. In my reception, sometimes he took picture of people who are talking, but nobody is looking at the camera, I would suggest him to talk/tell those people when he wants to take a picture, so he will get better picture. I did not mean to complain anything, I'm still happy with what I get from Rivera Eye. Keep going and improving yourself. You did good! One day I believe you will be great!....THANKS!

I loved being able to go take a picture quickly and not miss my favorite song. The quality of the pictures are amazing and they are memories that I will treasure. Matt was awesome! When I first saw Matt on Thumbtack, I saw that he had no reviews, which made me a little hesitant. But I am so glad I went with him! He gladly set up a time we could meet so we could see his work. He started out asking me what kind of pictures I wanted. I wanted a natural, relaxed, and fall type theme, which he then asked me to send examples of what I wanted via Pinterest. He made my fiance and I so relaxed during our engagement photos, and never rushed us what so ever. We enjoyed every minute of them. When we took our pictures the tree colors for fall weren't very colorful, so he gladly scheduled another short session later in the month so I could get some fall colors! Our engagement photos turned out excellent! I would highly recommend Matt to anybody! I can't wait for him to take my wedding photos!

Classic and Timeless photos! What attracted me to Brooke from the start was her use of natural light which was the number one thing I needed in my wedding photos. She's very quick and professional at getting the pictures to the client. Most of my photos are good quality, but I wished to have expressed to her a little more variety and close-ups of my husband and I.

Throughout the entire process he knew where to be, what to see, and who to photo. We met him the first time and knew we were in good hands. The wedding was outside and the reception was inside. He did an excellent job.

I hired Joshua for my wedding May 2015 without ever meeting him. His prices were right and it came with everything I wanted and more. I was beyond impressed with him!!!! Very professional and friendly. He worked along side my photographers very well all day long. He came in the morning for getting ready and he stayed with us all hours of the day until we got in our get away car (12 hours !!) His work is awesome! I just received my wedding highlight video, perfect length 10 min and I was so impressed he added our special songs! He really captured the whole day and all the emotions and fun that went along with it! I got to re-live the whole day watching that film! We could not be any happier!! :):)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
